Let's start out by saying we had 13 people... I called they said they had large groups coming in but they said they would try to accommodate us but no guarantees. We walked in ... they took a smile-encased deep breath and they accommodated us albeit at two tables slightly separated (But the boys didn't want to sit with each other anyhow.). The waitress kept smiling ... they are so busy; it's a Saturday early evening and it smells so good!! The dining area is bright and clean ... you can almost sense Athens. My wife and I stopped in to Mr Souvlaki for lunch after golfing on a Thursday. We were seated immediately in the bright and clean dining room. Our server took our drink order and gave us a few minutes to check out the menu. She brought us some fresh bread and butter with our drinks. I ordered the soutzouki sandwich which is seasoned ground beef in a pita with tomato and tzatziki, It was very good. My wife ordered the greek salad with a side order of gyro meat. While we were at National Bakery, we asked where's the best place for octopus and avgolemono soup. Mr. Souvlaki was named with no hesitation, so off we went. Mr. Souvlaki was great. We got the charbroiled octopus and the avgolemono soup. The octopus was so tender. And the oregano and garlic seasoned olive oil the cephalopod was broiled in made a great dip for the house Greek bread, supplied by the aforementioned National Bakery. The avgolemono soup was perfect. Light and lemon-y. The best in Greek comfort food. If you're in Tarpon Springs and want some great Greek Food, definitely skip some of the tourist-trap type places on Dodecanese Blvd. Always ask the locals because they'll never steer you wrong. read more

Visited here with a church group following a visit to the Tabernacle In The Wilderness in Tarpon Springs. Our group of 24 were greeted and seated immediately. Although we could not be seated at one table, we were seated in a separate area in tables of four or eight. We were brought menus and drinks and fresh bread. There's no way I would go to a new Greek place without ordering Spanakopita! And I also ordered a Chicken Souvlaki to share with my granddaughter. Salads came first, one at our table ordered the small Greek Salad. It was huge! It shared among three at the table. My Spanakopita was huge also. And it was delicious. But I must admit I do prefer more of a ratio of filo to spinach. The Chicken Slouvaki was excellent. And yes, I did share with my granddaughter. I recommend paying the slight up charge for pita bread. Greek salad large. I recommend adding potato salad. I believe all the lettuce was iceberg. Contained beets,feta, onion, tomato, a few chickpeas and lemony dressing. Donuts served with honey were hot, freshly fried and tasty, but didn't wow me. Some mint or cinnamon or berries would have been appreciated. Restaurant was out of both humus and bottled water the day we visited. Every time we come, we get a good meal. It's a standalone restaurant with its own parking lot. Inside is bright with plenty of seating. Stopped in for lunch at Mr Souvlaki after visiting the Tarpon Springs Arts and Crafts Festival. We were greeted and seated immediately upon entering the restaurant. The dining room was bright and clean with plenty of windows and nice tables. Our pleasant server promptly came to the table with menus and took our drink orders. A few minutes later we ordered two lamb/beef Gyros and a cup of Avgolemono soup. A basket of bread came out with the delicious Avgolemono soup. Avgolemono is a silky, rich, fragrant chicken soup, prepared Greek-style with avgolemono sauce (Greek lemon-egg sauce with warm broth). A few minutes later, the gyros were served. These were okay. A bit salty, the pita was soggy, onions were pungent but the Tzatziki and tomatoes were delicious. The portion was huge with a generous amount of meat - enough to share. Mr Souvlaki is known for Greek Chow Mein which I should have ordered. Peak your interest? It's sautéed peppers & onions, shredded Feta cheese, and rice pilaf topped with your choice of chicken or pork, shrimp, gyro or vegetables. Mr Souvlaki is a long-standing authentic Greek eatery with free on-site parking. Although our food experience wasn't very good, we will go again and order something else. Reason? I have been frequenting this restaurant for about 4 years now. The food is the best! Fresh and delicious. The restaurant is lovely and relaxing. They lost 2 stars however on their takeout. My round trip travel time is an hour. When i first started getting takeout, they would open the cartons to show you what you were getting. Not anymore. The last 2 times i got takeout, they omitted part of the order. When I called on the first one, they told me to come back. Also on the 2nd one. They didn't even offer a refund for the soup which was $14. They told me to come back. In the past, customer service would mail you a coupon and refund part of the order. That's customer service. Five stars for food and service and presentation... Four stars for ambience. There's a number of Greek restaurants you can choose from in Tarpon Springs because it is kind of their thing... They are very well known and are known to get very crowded, particularly on a Friday night when they don't take reservations. We asked locals what they would recommend as a place they would go to eat, and avoid the touristy places at the docks, and this restaurant came up even though they were reluctant to recommend it because it is such a plain family oriented type of a restaurant. It was busy but they were on top of it for service although it did take a bit of time to get our first drink order in. The flaming baked cheese is a must-have particularly to get the oooh and the aaah of fire coming to your table. The braised shank was Very tender and fall off the bone although the sauce landed a little flat. The dishes were all prepared and a traditional way and were enjoyable and extremely filling. I recommend in a group of four getting three entrees and the cheese to share. I love grape leaves rolls so got that appetizer as a sharable, although most of my dinner mates did not try it. They had plenty to share with me anyhow. Seems like we had leftovers even as much as we tried not to. I have one beautiful painting on the wall and the rest are just plain white walls and that's what makes it kind of uninspiring from an atmosphere standpoint. This place is so cute, right across from the Sponge Docs. Our server was an adorable older Greek woman, and she was very kind and sweet. We ordered the Dolmades and Gyros. I had never had dolmades before, but I will get them again. The lemon sauce on top of the meat and rice wrapped in grape leaves was a zesty and savory dish. The gyro meat was very tender, juicy, and garlicky. The tzatziki sauce added a nice pop of flavor to the meat and the vegetables inside the gyros were very fresh. Calamari was chewy, probably skip that next time. Gyros on the combo souvlaki/gyros plate were good but could have benefited from tomato and onion to go along with the garlicky tzatziki and warm pita but were tasty. One had the lamb shank, braised in a tomato based sauce, looked good, friend liked it. All in all, a very friendly, relaxed, larger than it looks from the outside restaurant. Sadly, this is the reason why I gave them 4.5 :/ Now let's get to the good part! Dolma was superb! One of the best dolmas I've ever had! It has the creamy chicken flavored sauce and lemon, omg it was amazing. freshly cooked. And the inside was this perfectly cooked rice & beef! The Souvlaki sandwich with pork was also uh-Maaaay-zing!! The pork was nicely seasoned, the pita bread was nice and soft and warm, the tzatziki sauce and onions and tomatoes just goes with it so perfectly! Lamb Shank with rice, holy moly! Recently went to have their Greek chow mien ( their original) & my favorite. The price has been inching up since the pandemic but this time it reached my limit. Not only was it $5 more than my last recent purchase but it was also less food with less vegetables (peppers & onions) and more rice! What was about $15 prior to the pandemic now is $25 - the portions were very large and I always had enough food for another meal! I still had some leftovers but just a snack (and I'm not a big eater). This dish is served with only some bread. The food is still very good but I feel they are taking advantage of the times. read more
