Have been going to this place for over 20 years. Lately the service and food have gown WAY downhill. The wait ti,e from getting a table to the first servicer taking drink orders has greatly increased. Yesterday my family of 5 came in and sat down. 10 minutes later another party sat down next to us. Bottom line they had their orders taken and food on the table BEFORE our order was even taken. They even paid out and left before our food was out. The food was good we ordered the taco trio who was basically the same meat in 3 different tortillas, it was ok. The chicken flautas were made with a very well made tortilla, I could say just as good as authentic Mexican flautas so that is a plus, the taco for the kids menu was huge so we split it for our 2 toddlers, the red rice that comes with all orders tasted just as mexican. We came in from out of town. They had a steady crowd so figured the food couldn't be bad. Well we were wrong. The food was so so, nothing great. The food came out and looked amazing. Then we got to the rice and it had a strange smell to it. My husband didn't get to smell his since it was in a burrito which made it taste awful. It also didn't help the meat inside his burrito was extremely chewy and fatty. I personally wouldn't come back to this restaurant. I don't care for old burnt food. read more

If the OWNER would put the money in on CLEANING UP THIS PLACE rather than numerous price increases and new menus, then maybe it would be good. To me if the restrooms need cleaning and work then how clean is the kitchen! The walls in the restaurant need cleaning and painting. Enough will all the painted stuff on the walls. Maybe the OWNER needs to get Restaurant Impossible on the Food Network to come and help him get his act and food together. When I go to eat Mexican food I want REAL HOMEMADE CHIPS not store bought. I might as well stay home eat store bought chips and salsa out of a jar and put a Mexican TV dinner in the oven. If that is you thing then this place is for you. The service was absolutely the worst I have ever had. The waitress frankly didn't give a DAMN about her tables or her customers. This was an awful experience. Other than that, the food was pretty decent. But it's a shame when you pay good money and are treated like crap. they have way to much fat on the meat that they serve. I am a huge fan of the vanilla tres leches cakes that they serve, but EVERY SINGLE TIME THEY DONT HAVE THEM. I have even called before so I don't waste my time driving to the resteraunt and they are always out. 1 out of 20 times they actually have them. I have even called in advanced, asked if they had specifically the vanilla tres leches cake, they said yes, we get there and not even 1 min after the call and they are out of them. pisses me off read more

Not as great as it used to be. Poorly managed. Service is slow. Wait time in the drive thru is twenty minutes plus. Asked to pull to second window, then pull to end of building, then park while waiting for food. Even if you call in a to go order, it still takes a long time. Store bought chips, yuck. Very overpriced for what you get. Better options in town. But they do have a full bar, so if that is something you like, which I don't, then that's a plus I guess read more

My family and I were in town for Come and Take It. We had read good reviews online and decided to try it for ourselves. We waited 20 minutes after sitting down before anyone came to our table and that was only because my sister went to ask if anyone was going to serve us. We were dressed like everyone else, not loud or anything so I don't know what the problem was. When the waitress finally came over with chips and salsa the chips were stale, burnt and cold. We were very disappointed and offended with the horrible service. I have never had such horrible service and would not recommend this place to anyone! Typical small town Mexican restaurant, with one exception, they have the best tortilla soup I have eaten. Be sure to ask to have it specially heated and that your cheese, avocado and lime wedge to come in a separate bowl to add at the table. Most menu items are well done and reasonably priced. The food, service, and attention given has been one that has taken my family back there on two other occasions as I travel to San Antonio and the Austin area. Can't wait until we visit again! First things first; go to Gonzales and dine at Mr. Taco. The family that runs this place is an awesome family. Dining there on a Friday night was great listening to live mariachi music. My husband and I love it...we drive from Halletsville just to eat there. The crispy taco's are to die for...and the Chili con Queso...the best EVER!! NOT the squirt cheese so many people call QUESO!! I would give ANYTHING to get their salsa recipe...although we would still make the trip to eat there! First off I have never been to a Mexican food place that doesn't give everyone their own salsa....the cheese in the cheese enchiladas was horrible the rice was extremely dry....the alcohol drinks are not mixed well the margaritas were extremely nasty...this restaurant needs a lot of improving...the wait was very long just to get our food order in...
