I hate to leave bad reviews but I went last week (12/27/24) and the service was terrible. Took a good five minutes before we were even acknowledged waiting at the entrance. It took ten minutes before our server even visited our table, which was dirty and hadn't been wiped off yet. We ordered and asked for it to be wiped. Server came back with drinks and food not long after that and didn't wipe it. The pimento cheese was not fully melted on the sandwich, probably just cooked at too high of a heat so bread got brown too quickly. We were handed our check not even when we were half way done eating. Felt very rushed and would not go back if this was my first time eating there. Also my mom ordered a senior meal and was charged for a regular combo. I got it fixed at the register and the bill ended up being $10 cheaper. I ate here as a kid a lot so I'll write it off as maybe they were having a bad day.

Growing up in Winston-Salem I definitely remember visiting multiple Mayberry locations to dine or just for ice cream. There are currently two locations - Miller Street and Fourth Street. According to a 2013 Our State magazine article, in its heyday there were 42 locations in NC and VA! I also learned from this article that legend has it the name of the restaurant comes not from the location of the iconic "The Andy Griffith Show" TV show (with the town of Mayberry being based on nearby Mt. Airy, NC) but on a flower beloved by a former owner's wife. The flower bloomed in May and had berries. Anyhoo, after an absence of many years I walked into the Miller St. Mayberry location (or as us locals call it, "Mayberry's." The last time I was there I remember thinking it was rather tired looking on the inside so I was in for a pleasant surprise. The interior had obviously been refurbished at some point and, while still holding a somewhat retro feel, was updated, fresh and attractive. I looked at the menu, nodding as I noted that the famous "Lock, Stock and Barrel" ice cream dish (which boasts 8 scoops of ice cream and 4 scoops of sherbet!) was still there. I skipped back to the food offerings. The restaurant is particularly known for its hot dogs and the bean and bacon soup. However, I chose a Flatbread sandwich. The food arrived at the table pretty quickly and the sandwich was filled with deli meat, crisp bacon and perfectly melty cheese. I got the hot chips on the side, which came with dipping sauce and were yummy - salty and not too crisp but not soggy. It was all quite filling so unfortunately I had no room for a Lock, Stock and Barrel or even just a scoop of ice cream. If you check in on Yelp, you get a free scoop of ice cream, so I was thankful to be able to save that deal for a future visit.

I only went for dessert on a Sunday evening, yet I got so much more out of the trip. I pulled up to a flickering sign above the building, and went inside. It felt like being in an old-school diner from a movie, or perhaps going back in time to a simpler age. The staff were friendly and accommodating, despite the evening hours on a weekend. They didn't mind that I got a table just to eat dessert. And it was delicious. Warm brownie and fudge with cold ice cream -- just the way it should be. I'll be back to this little gem.

I have heard for years about this place being a staple in the Winston Salem and truly North Carolina community. Yet, I'm not a big sweets person. I didn't know that someday berry's are restaurants. We came around lunch. I got a burger and fries. It was pretty good. Nothing super special but the atmosphere brought me back k to simpler times. You can think of it as an ice crea parlor with simple amaerican food. Now their bread and butter is ice cream. They are really good at it by focusing on the usually flavors with a few special combinations. I got strawberry cheesecake and banana pudding. So good. If you are in the mood for a simple meal with a sweet ending, I would recommend this place.

went here for the first time today it's totally my aesthetic and the food was good. I had a bacon cheeseburger and the pasta salad as the side both were good but the real star was the hot fudge cake that alone is worth coming back for. It want very busy and the food took awhile the staff is super friendly.

Bottom line: Mayberry is locally known for their history of being a great ice cream parlor/diner type stop for years, but this visit was more like an OK experience. Appearing to be short staffed and rushed while my hamburger steak was a bit lacking in flavor (save the onion ring on top that helped) however good in portion and accompanying sides, I am going with 3 stars here. The Deets: Upon a recent visit back to see the folks back home, we decided to stop into Mayberry for lunch as Midtown Cafe appeared to have a line and Mayberry is just behind it. Mayberry has been a bit nostalgic for us as we used to go there when I was a kid for ice cream or a good soup/sandwich or even a hotdog. It is not in the same building as it was back then, but relatively near. Inside, it gives that ice cream parlor/diner type atmosphere. After a wait, we were shown to a booth. From appearances, they seemed to be a bit short staffed and there was a bit of...discord...on who was going to cover what/where, etc. It set the tone for the rest of the visit. Our server, trying to be pleasant, was definitely a bit frazzled. We were able to put in our orders and it did take a bit to get served after ordering. My choice, hamburger steak entree, was OK but the accompanying onion ring on top did provide some flavor as the hamburger steak itself was a bit lackluster flavor wise but of adequate portion. The accompanying Texas Toast and fries were good. Our server checked on us but asked in such a hurry she was already down to the next booth when she ended her question inquiring if we were OK. I did need water but she was running to try to keep up with everyone in her section. My parents asked for a pineapple shake (their favorite there) and asked if it could be split to go...after some wait, they got their shake and it was split but it was in two nice glasses so they were obviously not to go. My parents really enjoyed some of the shake they had while our server did get some to-go cups for them. The person bussing tables was working hard and very pleasant, she kept our booth cleaned up when we were through with our dishes. We got our bill taken care of up front instead of waiting for the server as again, she had a lot going on. As I am a bit nostalgic for Mayberry, I am glad we stopped by but this visit was OK at best.

I came in to Mayberry with my whole family this past week. For me, this place is now out of the way, so it's been a few years since I've been here. That being said, I came away pleased. The inside hasn't really changed. It's wide open and has an ice cream bar centered in front near the door. It seemed clean inside. It was around lunch time, but not terribly busy. We sat and were waited on by Rhoda, who was an absolute joy to interact with. She was really busting her butt (appeared to be understaffed) but nevertheless, she was friendly and always around to get us what we needed. I also interacted with someone at the ice cream area and they were super nice. There were a variety of things ordered. I had a spicy chicken salad. There was a plain cheeseburger and fries, a hotdog with mac-n-cheese, a spicy chicken sandwich, and a regular burger with hot chips. The spicy chicken is good. I like the breading, and the heat is enough to make you notice, but not enough to regret it. The salad itself was on the small side. I tasted the fries and hot chips, both being pretty good. Overall, this is a decent spot to visit if you've got a hunger. Even better if you're looking for ice cream.

Really wasn't expecting to be wowed by this hot dog! I was just looking for a quick place to stop and get lunch on a Sunday afternoon and I remembered somebody telling me that they had hot dogs at Mayberry and it was conveniently located near Salem Parkway for my afternoon plans. I didn't realize this was a sit-down place, but I still received my hot dog to go within about 10 minutes and was impressed with the kindness of the staff. Mayberry has pork hot dogs and does an excellent Carolina-style "all the way" hot dog. I especially loved the slaw. While I was waiting, I couldn't help but notice the ice cream and I think that'll pair nicely with my next hot dog from Mayberry!

Back again to one of our favorite places in all of Winston-Salem!! And then we got to see our favorite waitress, Maddy, again. What luck! She is amazing. The food is amazing. The ice cream is amazing. It's wonderful. A must stop if you're in town.

The ice cream here was great! I had the Strawberry Cheesecake Milkshake with whipped cream. The ice cream was creamy and delicious. They also have a great menu of diner food. The servers and the other employees were extremely nice and attentive! The atmosphere is one of a old school diner. I would most definitely recommend this restaurant!

Exceptional, always-friendly service with good food awaits you inside of this downtown restaurant that specializes in selling a variety of ice cream flavors, salads, sandwiches and soups. Definitely try the Mayberry beef chili dogs and don't forget to tip the hard-working, delightful employee/cashier that stays ever-ready to both welcome and serve you with a smile!

Crazily, insanely slow. We ordered 45 minutes ago and we are still waiting. No sandwich could possibly take this long.
