I don't know if the ownership has changed or if they just made some decisions to alter things, but either way it changes our opinion of the place. First and most important for us, they used to be the only place we were aware of in NC to get Gluten Free Crab Cakes which was a major reason we frequented Sammy G's. That has apparently changed and the new Gluten Free menu is basically just the meats menu which is a real shame. It looks like they have made some other small changes to the regular menu as well, none of those were all that concerning but the loss of this GF treat is a real blow for us. If you are a celiac and found reviews about the GF crab cakes, please be aware they appear to be gone now. Additionally, the prices across the menu seem to have gone up by a few dollars. When you consider that Sammy G's was never a cheap place to eat, and given the state of the economy these days, that actually does come out to a noticeable change and makes it harder to justify going. However, with the loss of the old GF options, it's unlikely we'll come back anywhere near as often as we used to.

If you're looking for a solid caterer in the Piedmont Triad region, I recommend Pepper Moon. Pepper Moon catered heavy hors d'oeuvres at the event. It was a simple setup: one long self-serve buffet of small bites. No passed trays, action stations, or anything like that. For us, it got the job done. From what I recall, we had teriyaki chicken skewers with sweet chili sauce, meatballs with marinara, biscuits (I think they were cheddar biscuits), black bean cakes with a yogurt sauce; a cubed cheese display with cheddar, Swiss, and pepper jack cheeses, grapes, berries, and assorted crackers; and a fresh fruit display with cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple, grapes, and berries. There may have been a dessert/sweet as well, but I don't remember. We had a special reunion cake, but I'm not sure if it was provided by Pepper Moon. Just under 100 guests were expected, but only about half that showed up, so we had a lot of leftovers. There were boxes for us to take leftovers home. In general, the menu served was safe with several crowd-pleasers. My wife really enjoyed the food and went back for seconds. Her favorites were the meatballs (soft and moist) and black bean cakes. My go-to was the teriyaki chicken skewers. The chicken was tender and appetizing and I've been a fan of that sweet Thai chili sauce for chicken since I was little. There was a cash bar for drinks. I'm not sure if that was Pepper Moon, Congdon Yards, or another vendor. The Pepper Moon staff were formally dressed (the event was dressy casual), polite, and attentive. I will start off by saying that the food was good & most the people who attended the wedding, and were actually able to finish their meal, enjoyed it completely. We received numerous texts saying that it was delicious, but I am unable to leave a 5 star review. I had confirmed via email weeks before the wedding that all leftover food would be boxed for me in styrofoam boxes and that it would be able to be taken home for after the wedding which sounded great. Unfortunately, I believe we received only 1 or 2 extra to-go boxes after the wedding was over which is impossible. We had originally prepared for 125 people to attend the wedding and have roughly 85 people come and enjoy the night. Not only should there have easily been plenty of extra food that was leftover to take home, which was not given to us, everyone that I spoke to about the food informed me that the food was taken before they were able to even get a second plate which there should have been plenty of food for everyone to eat. With the food being taken EXTREMELY EARLY & having 40 extra portions of food, one would only assume that my guests ate the extra food(which was not even possible) or we would have a great deal of food to take home. Neither of these occurred. Having an additional 40 extra plates should have meant that roughly half of our family and friends should of had to have had seconds or even possibly thirds depending on how much people ate. Another issue that concerned people who attended my wedding, to include my wife and I; is that as people were eating, talking with family and friends, and using the restroom, their food was taken off of the table before they were able to finish their plates. Shortly, after everyone received their plates, the catering company took the food off of the buffet with no opportunity for anyone to get seconds that I spoke with. After spending almost $4,500 on food I would've only assumed that the food would have been left out for at least some time for people to enjoy it and indulge in it, yet that was not possible especially considering each plate cost roughly $34-$36.... As previously mentioned, the food was great for those were able to finish their meals but due to the aforementioned reasons I would only give the catering company 2.5 stars and would HIGHLY recommend speaking with other caterers, before booking with them.
