This place has gone beyond downhill, between the poor food quality and the terrible customer service this place is the shadow of what it used to be. Me and my friend stopped here recently after a long day and not only did the bartender not give us menus he never checked in with us when we sat down others had came in just after that and they get promptly served like we should have. This place used to steal the show in maupin and now it's old, rundown, and lacks customer service. I've been a loyal customer for years and this is the worst I've seen it. We came for mid-day lunch over a holiday weekend. We couldn't get any draft beers (something wrong with something), so everything was in a can - no problem really, and there's quite a good selection. I got gator taters (jalapeno cheddar bites) and a caesar salad. Decent, the salad was quite large, ample (too much?) dressing, and a ton of croutons. Service was friendly, but the bartender had to serve everyone - so maybe not as quick, but no problem either. Great food and great service. He had an IPA. Great selection of alcohol and beers. I had a great Arnold Palmer. The wings were great and the accompanying buffalo sauce and ranch were great. The fact that the river rafting guides apparently don't recommend this place is all the more reason for me to love it. I have ZERO in common with young idiots who have no idea what hard physical labor is like. Good riddance. This is a dive bar. A Biker dive bar. Cold beer. Good comfort food. This used to be locally owned as the Rainbow Tavern, but is now owned by Portland's Mt. Hood Brewery this past year. They've cleaned it up a bit, added their beer and some of their own food. I've gone here with guests, but it's hard to watch Portland companies come in and take any profits away from the community. Went in there a couple of weeks back and I have never had a waitress so blown out of her mind high as a kite in my life. Dead serious we asked for water she brought sprite. When I told her we asked for water she gave us a dirty look as if we did something wrong. My buddy then asked for a very complicated alcoholic beverage (Coors Light draft) after she was clanking around breaking a bottle or two stumbling he finally got a half foam half coors light draft.... For $5. We were going to order food but afraid that if we ordered a burger she would have brought a salad. Then given us another dirty look if we tried to correct her. Not recommended by our rafting river guides for a reason. Stale smell of cigarettes. Fruit flies in the margarita. The bartender gal had zero empathy & customer service for my friend with major food allergies and told her it was her fault when she ordered something she couldn't eat. Go anywhere but here if you're remotely close to Maupin. That bartender needs serious people & customer service training. Been there once a year for 20 or so, new owners next year? Well get Carol back, keep gizzards and loot, and I can live with whatever they do. It is a landmark. Don't go changing it from the watering hole it has always been and I am sure you will get a nice return on some minor improvements. The only place for late night rowdiness! The "Bow" is a must stop after a rafting or fishing trip if you're staying the night. The weekends are usually packed during the summer, but there is generally live music and a great mix of guides, locals, and rafters. It's certainly not fancy but the drinks are strong and cheap! There's a pool table, gambling machine's, dance floor, and Hamm's on tap. Winter's are a whole different story. The patronage consists of the locals and the occasional group of fishermen or construction workers. Usual pub fair prevails but there are a few surprisingly great dishes. Not sure why no one from our annual Maupin group has written a review but hey, I'll do the honors. In short the Rainbow Tavern is AMAZE-BALLS. Every year we come to our friends house here, tear up the river on our pirate, viking etc rafts then meander on over to the Tavern for some boozin' good fun with the townies! Don't try and get fancy and order a kamikaze, they'll just have no idea what you want. Stick to the beer and shots or box of wine in the cooler behind the bar and you can't go wrong in this lively watering hole! read more

Worst service ever, not sure how one of the servers is every a server. The server stomped over didn't say hi, just demanded IDs. Someone had forgotten theirs (didn't know they forgot it) and she lost it on us, just completely disrespectful. She told us to get out of the bar, extremely rude and when we tried to politely ask what else was around we could eat and she was still rude and not answering our questions. As we were leaving she walks by us that it's a bar and people need their IDs. Even though we were cooperative about leaving. SAVE YOUR MONEY and find somewhere servers actually have personality and good customer service. read more
