Being a mechanic myself for several years, I am extremely picky with who touches my vehicles and unless completely necessary (Tires, Wheel alignments, smog checks, etc...), I do the work myself (I have more diagnostic tools than some of the shops in town). I recently had a job that would have been difficult to do on ramps in my driveway (Transmission Service on a 2006 LR3 Land Rover), and I had annual camping trip with the guys from work coming up, so I was under the gun to get it taken care of. With being busy at work, I decided I would shop around. I called several places and did not feel comfortable with ANY of them, until I spoke with Matt. Over the phone he explained what would need to be done and having planned to do this job myself, I knew that he knew exactly what he was doing. I dropped off the Rover and we shared a few stories and compared a few diagnostic tools, and this guy is awesome! I feel like he could be my new best friend, he's just that nice of a guy! Matt completed the job to perfection! I even questioned/tested him on a few things and not only did he have answers for me, he actually had photos and my old parts, which for me was even better. I am extremely pleased with everything he did. Another bonus for finding Matt is that being a mechanic, everyone asks me where they can take their car for servicing. I would normally take my car to the dealership for regular maintenance. When they couldn't take my car in to fit my schedule, I started looking for a local mechanic as backup. MT motors came highly recommended by a foreign car specialist in town. When I first contacted Matt, he asked if my car is under warranty and I said yes. He then tells me that he can service the car but I may lose the warranty on it. So he suggested that I wait and take advantage of the warranty service with the dealership and call him back for future repair)s) once warranty expires. Decided to come here because of a good review from another Evo owner. I figured at the least, this guy will be familiar with my car. Turns out, Matt was great! He's a friendly guy who will definitely try and take of your car issues as best possible. He was easy to contact and kept me posted on updates with parts and time frames. When it was time to get my car he showed me more specifically what parts were malfunctioning and how he tried to salvage things before entirely replacing the parts. I would give more stars if i could! I was reffed to Matts shop a few months ago after I had been having imminence trouble with my cars breaks. I had recently replaced my breaks and rotors on my 2011 vehicle for now the second time and upon leaving the dealership I had a horrible break sequel (that never went away until Matt fixed it) and days later I already had a warp in my rotors. All these things were stated under warranty upon purchase. I returned with my problems and they denied me the warranty without an explanation and stated it would cost the same that I had payed days earlier to replace. So obviously I will not be working with the dealership anymore. I went to Matt and explained my problems. We discussed different brands that would benefit for long term and so on. After replacing all breaks and front rotors he discovered that one of my brakes had been installed backwards from the previous people.. Great. He explained why I warped so quickly (I drive really hard and I also work in SF so I overly ride my breaks unnecessarily on hills). Lesson learned. He assumes that is why they wouldn't honor the warranty (something they could have easily explained to me). No one should work twice as hard for half the money when it's my fault so I understand why they denied the warranty but lost my business simply for poor communication. That is why Matt is awesome. My car was having issues staying started and I suspected it was a fuel pump issue which would have cost hundreds of dollars to fix. When I brought it to Matt he diagnosed the issue immediately as a wire that had been chewed by a mouse! Instead of performing lots of unnecessary work, he repaired the issue and I am now a lifelong customer. He also performed a timing chain replacement for a reasonable cost and it runs perfectly. Sometimes, you just get lucky. Lucky that I broke down where I did. Lucky that I have Yelp as a resource. And lucky that I found MT Motors. Passing through Tracy on a Friday afternoon on my way to Reno I noticed steam coming up from the hood of my car while going through a drive-through. Then I noticed that my temperature gauge had maxed out. Trusting MT's rating I called and explained my situation to Matt. After some discussion he said, "Why don't you bring it by and I'll take a look". With three other cars in what appeared to be a one man shop, he took the time to troubleshoot my problem. We discovered a burned out radiator fan, and broken relay wire. Given the 200,000 miles on my '92 Celica, he suggested we also replace the thermostat, radiator cap and upper coolant hose. He call a couple places to locate parts, which were delivered from Stockton after a couple hours, and he stayed late into Friday to get it all done. Matt didn't explain the coolant as being part of the problem, but he completely flushed and replaced my radiator coolant as part of the repair, giving me the leftovers in the jug in case I needed it later. When he was all done, with genuine concern for my situation, he started the car, let it heat up, made sure the fan worked, checked the hoses, and only then, being satisfied that everything was fine, sent me on my way. Humble, compassionate, comprehensively competent, and craftsman-like in his mindful attention to detail, Matt is an exception to the perception you might have of mechanics. F A N T A S T I C...I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Matt at MT Motors who specializes in foreign vehicles. I have a 2005 325i BMW and so for an older model car, having repairs done especially at the dealership was getting way too expensive. I was also hesitant to take my car to an independent mechanic shop because as a woman I was always taken advantage of and getting ripped off by the mechanics. So I looked on Yelp for an independent mechanic shop and read the reviews for every single shop in my area and low and behold found there was ONLY 1 (MT Motors) that had all positive reviews, NOT A SINGLE NEGATIVE REVIEW. Although still hesitant at that point, I decided to give him a try and am glad I did. I called and explained what was wrong, he told me to bring it in the very next day to look at it. When I did he not only found exactly where the leak in the radiator was but he also took the time to explain how it works and what might have caused it to crack. Showing me where it was cracked/ leaking at and explaining everything assured me that I'm not being cheated in any way, which I really appreciated. Because he was busy finishing other cars he told me to bring my car back a couple days later which I did. Early Monday morning I dropped it off and picked it up within that afternoon. Matt was our Angel from Heaven yesterday. Not only did he fix a broken water pump in our Audi in one day (big job, he has to remove the front of the car to get to the pump), he met us at his shop on a Sunday to enable us to get home on the day we wanted to return home. Long story short, we broke down Thursday on our way to Arnold for the weekend. MT Motors was the only repair shop in Tracy who worked on foreign cars. Boy were we lucky. He had the problem diagnosed and the parts ordered by the time we returned from lunch. He had the car ready for us at the end of day Friday, so we could return home Sunday as planned. Unfortunately, we had not noticed that Enterprise Car Rentals is closed on Sunday, with no lock box, and no help from their 800 # as to what to do. So in desperation we called Matt, who was still at the shop, and he said of course just drop the car off here and have Enterprise pick the car up on Monday. read more
