That being said... I'm glad that we ended up in this campground. We only stayed here for one night so we could enjoy tubing down the Deerfield River during the day, and have somewhere to cook and sleep at night. This campground was perfect for what we were looking for and was much more quiet than the one I thought I was booking originally. I can't speak for all of the sites, but we booked site 21 and thought it was perfect. It's right on the corner of the access road and directly across from the bathrooms. Due to it being on the corner, it offered some privacy as we only had neighbors on one side who were a bit separated by trees. It was decent sized. We were able to fit two vehicles, two tents, and had enough space to sit around the campfire. The firepit comes with a grate which you can use to grill. Also the bathroom light stays on 24/7 which is helpful when you need to walk there in the middle of the night. The mosquitoes weren't horrendous either. For $17, it was great.

We camped there for 6 days this year from a Saturday. The Cold River (not too cold as the name suggests) runs parallel to a good number of campsites on the lower level of the park. We were camped 15ft away from a river which served as a beautiful backdrop that we could hear all day and night as it rolled over they my rocks that created small and medium pools that we swam/sat in. The bathrooms were clean and very close by which is useful with kids. There area by trails to hike or bike right in the campground area. The campground is also within very close driving distance to plenty if water based activities on the Deerfield River. We went on a guided inflatable kayak tour with CrapApple tours which was okay but for the money and freedom it is much better to buy/bring your own boat or inflatable float/tube and just float down the river. It is a gorgeous view and lots of fun. North Adams is a fast 20 minute drive and on a rainy day we took the kids out for ice cream and the scenery up route 2 was beautiful. It's Worth the ride to North Adams which is also home to Mass Museum of Contemporary Art. Mohawk was a great escape and we are already planning on returning next year.

Rented some 4 bikes from here this past weekend. An overall great experience!…read more If you're looking to bike the Ashuwillticook trail, their store is right across the street from them. Their website is a bit confusing, but I sent them an email and they responded within a few hours. Website said that we needed to bring our own pedals if we didn't want to use the clip in pedals, but that wasn't the case which was good. On the day that we were trying to rent the bikes, the website was randomly down. I called them and they were super helpful. Took down my name and set aside 4 hybrids for us. We were running late and I called to tell them that and the man who picked up the phone was a bit short with me on the phone. We finally got there an hour late. They happened to have put the bikes away since they assumed we weren't coming. But the guy there was super helpful and quickly got the bikes out and got us going within 10min. He was especially quick because he knew we were trying to catch sunset and were only going to be out for an hour and a half before it got too dark to ride. He even cut the price down from 30 to 25$ since we were going to be out for such a little time. We set off and within 5 min I had a flat. I called him and asked if I could get another bike if I rode back. He said to just wait there and he would come meet me. He rode a replacement bike out himself and met me within 5min. It was so helpful! We were able to return the bikes after the shop closed which was great too. Bikes were great to ride and helmets were good too. Sure the website could use some work (or be functional), and maybe some of the people there don't have the greatest customer service, but the person we worked with was absolutely fantastic and it was honestly the best experience I've had at a rental place in forever.

During the trip we hit a bunch of local breweries as well as many local shops. The trip was perfectly planned and the trails were great. There was enough, technical driving to keep you focused, and more than enough scenery to keep you engaged. The trails/obstacles that required a bit more attention were expertly spotted by Ron and/or his crew. At no time did I feel like I was in over my head. Having gone on "self guided" trips before, I can tell you that having a pre-planned, guided tour from someone who knows the area, is worth much more than the cost of the trip itself. The campfire community every night was an added bonus. If you are on the fence about booking a trip with Ridgeback Guide Service, just go for it!! There are other guide services out there, however, Ron checks all the boxes, does everything by the book, is a wealth of knowledge in off-roading and adheres strongly to the "tread lightly" principles. I look forward to many more outings with Ridgeback Guide Service.
