We had to run to the track, where we accidentally boarded the wrong train. This was also my fault. Upon our return to the city, there was a large phalanx of extremely fit police officers with their pants tucked into combat boots milling near the entrance. We decided that this was also not a good time to loiter and marvel at the architecture, so we departed expeditiously. The only cabs available outside the station are green ones, which my mother refused to take. They generally operate in the Bronx. But when I finally got a cab through the Curb app, it was...green. Lol. Very nice, clean station, and a very nice employee directed us to the correct track.

Someone complained to Yelp that my photos were posted to the wrong page. It's not unusual for a Station to have more than one entrance and exit. This is a cool station because it's above ground. I had no problems when I took the train down to 96th Street. I would definitely use this station again if the need arises. The good thing is you get a nice view. A lot of elevated stations aren't that interesting, but this has a good view in a cool area. It serves only the 1 Train. There's another station a few blocks away where you can make a transfer. Broadway is the other street here. It makes an important intersection in Harlem at 125th Street. There's a lot of history around this. Close to here is Grant's Tomb, if you're into Civil War and political stuff. If you're into African American culture, then this is the place for you. It's close to Columbia University, a very nerdy smart college that can still be cool. There's a lot of good bars and restaurants. It's also close to CCNY. That's the school that was known for their great basketball team until a scandal. Best of all is looking out from the station and seeing everything. There's a great view of the Hudson River. It can get pretty cold. It's way up there with no roof. This can make for great views.

This station was also one of the first ADA-compliant subway stations. Its artwork, all on the mezzanine level within the fare zone, includes: + Sculptor Houston Eugene Conwill's beautiful 1984 polychromic bronze triangular reliefs "The Open Secret" celebrating African-American culture. The detailed elements incorporated are worth examining. + New York born and raised artist Valerie Jean Maynard's 2003 wonderfully vibrant, colorful glass tile mosaic murals "Polyrhythmic Consciousness and Light," also reflecting the creativity generated from the neighborhood culture.

The station is pretty clean for how busy it can get. A lot of commuters or else it's students at CCNY. It serves the 1 Train. This can get crowded when there's school or whenever. It has entrances and exits at the center of the platform. There's not that much room to get in and out so you often have to wait. It basically is a good way for students to get to CCNY. Other area attractions include some street markets. The station can get dirty but it's not too bad though.

There is absolutely NO overpass or underpass passage to crossover to the other side of North bound or Downtown. Ergo, before you descend the stairs on street level entering the transit system make sure you are standing on the correct platform of "Northbound" vs. "Downtown." Upon entering the MTA turnstyle passengers are immediately located at the middle of the station as this is the only entrance/ exit for both sides.

Get on here on the way up toward Washington Heights. It serves the B and C Trains. This shares the same track as the A Train, but that often runs express so it doesn't stop here unfortunately. Not to be confused with another station on 116th in Harlem. Over by Malcolm X Boulevard will you find that. Here it's a little busier. This station is pretty close to Columbia University and some other stuff. Basic station with a classic setup that's annoying. It matters which side of the street you enter on. There's no crossovers inside and you'll have to exit and go across the street to get to the other side if you enter wrong.

An MTA station is on 145th Street in Harlem. It has lots of trains going through it with the A,…read moreB,C, and D Trains so there's never a long wait for one. Many opportunities to make a transfer. Fairly clean compared to many other stations around it. This also has a police station. Big station because of all the trains you can get on from here. It serves the A, B, C, and D Trains. There's many ways to make a transfer. Lower levels have the B and D. The B doesn't run on weekends. It still has plenty of other options to choose. The A often runs express but will always make a stop here. Upper levels have the A and C and this is where there's a police station. For how busy this is it's amazingly clean. This is usually safe with there being a police station. Getting to and from here is convenient and fast. It's one of the few stops for A when it runs express until 168th. The other important thing to remember is the B doesn't run on weekends.

(Note - There is no tunnel to allow crossing over between platforms despite this being a 2/3 transfer station.) In 1995, the MTA installed tile mosaics wonderful "Harlem Timeline" by visual artist Willie Birch, whose works some have described as "storytelling art." The Downtown platform "What's in My Hand?" section includes recognizable figures such as: Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., Clara Ward, Madam C.J. Walker, Louis Armstrong, Joe Lewis, and Duke Ellington. The Northbound/Uptown platform "Village of Harlem" mosaic includes notables such as: Malcolm X, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, Thelonious Monk, Father Divine, Billie Holiday and Marcus Garvey. You may smile also seeing less famous individuals represented including the kids playing "double dutch." It also includes New York Public Library's exceptional Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture which sits immediately above at street level.

Both uptown and downtown tracks have the 1996 "Flying Home: Harlem Heroes and Heroines" mosaics by the Harlem-born multi-media artist Faith Ringgold (assisted by Tim Tait Designs), which delightfully highlight wonderful local Harlem venues as notable figures fly overhead, just like Superman and Superwoman. If you're unfamiliar with any of those spots and people, these mosaics give you suggestions of what to familiarize yourself with! For the time being, not everyone can take advantage of this station and use it to access all the wonderful amenities this neighborho. Without elevators, it makes it impossible for people with disabilities, seniors, or those with strollers!!! MTA should really prioritize making this station ADA compliant, especially with the super restaurants, updated shops, nearby Apollo and Victoria theaters, plus adjacent Studio Museum and Urban Civil Rights Museums soon opening!!! MTA's website says it's in their 2025-2029 plan, but who knows what that means time-wise.
