We arrived for our first lesson for my 20 month old and I was surprised to see the school is just in someone's back yard. There were two instructors in the pool and no one else from the business around, so after a bit of confusion, we just sat by some other parents and waited our turn. What we saw was horrifying. Both infants in the water were screaming and crying, just desperate to get out. The poor mom next to me was holding her face in agony watching her baby scream like that. In fact, all the parents we saw there had that same agonizing look on their faces. The instructors didn't even seem phased. They must see that a lot, because they just kept going, stone faced with the kids. Eventually one of the kids just started violently vomiting in the water. It was not pretty! The instructor again didn't even seem phased and just took a net and scooped up the floating pieces at the top of the water. Ummm gross! When it was my sons turn I took him to the water and he started playing with some toys. I was hopeful he might not cry the whole time! After he got in, he too started screaming and wailing to be with a stranger in the water. I can understand kids don't like that sort of thing, but it just seemed like the instructor was awful with kids because all he did was, with a monotone voice, say "it's okay. You're okay, etc" which obviously did nothing to calm my child. After 18 agonizing minutes of watching my child's jaw shake from crying so hard, I went to the instructor and asked if that was normal. He said it was, and it usually isn't until the 5th or 6th lesson that they learn how to float and stop crying the whole way through. These lessons are $30 a piece, so getting to 5 lessons would be $150 of your child screaming, choking and wishing they were anywhere else. That night my poor toddler had nightmares all night long! There were snacks for the kids to eat at a table nearby, but they all cost money and you needed to Venmo to take something. The whole vibe of this place is just off! Kids screaming and vomiting in the water, cold instructors who don't seem to care or know how to calm children, and a crazy hot backyard with barely any shade to sit under. (We actually had to sit sideways to avoid the 99° sun during the lesson) it's not worth the money I paid upfront to go back to any lessons. I would definitely not recommend this school to anyone. I'm sure the peace of mind of having your child learn to swim or float is invaluable, but I'll do it somewhere where the journey isn't such a scarring experience for the child and parents alike.

I understand they need to practice to learn & everything- which I would be fine with if the expectation was set that we would actually have ZERO cleaning & if it were free- but we paid to be tortured for several hours & I received ZERO actual cleaning & he only got a small amount done on only one row of teeth & his was super painful with the machine & mine was because the only thing I got was her digging at my gums with a sharp tool the ENTIRE TIME- that's it!!! I was so shocked after that I didn't even have the capacity to discuss it at the time & that was such a huge waste of $ for seriously being tortured & getting no actual cleaning. 3 weeks later my gums still hurt. We will obviously never go back & I'm so beyond disappointed- just spend the $ on a cleaning at an actual dentist. They knew full well before hand we were moving & not able to go back for a second appointment (not that we even would after that!) so we needed to get done some sort of actual benefit that we paid for in that visit & I cannot believe how much we paid for only a painful & terrible experience. It's one thing to have students have to practice for free- but quite another to get nothing you PAY for & only pain & disappointment. My Husband had gone once before & must have gotten a student almost ready to graduate because it went fine then- but when I went with him it was simply appalling. Never again. As this is a school, you are being treated by a student dental hygienist. But not to worry, there are instructors that oversee the students and make sure they're doing their job the correct way. I mean, come on. A typical dentist visit with all the above service is usually cost well over $200, especially if you don't have insurance. For $10 how could you go wrong? For you single guys, almost every single woman in there cleaning your teeth is under 25, beautiful, and smart. They are all very courteous and polite, and are very gentle on your teeth. After leaving here my mouth felt beyond clean and I look forward to my next appointment. The office is laid out a little different than you are used, to there are almost 40-50 dental chairs and a single room. However, don't let this deter you. You still get a sense of privacy and personal care. Overall, I had a great experience here. It is well worth the money you save over going to a general dentist. You are still receiving an exam from a real dentist at the end of this appointment. if it has been a while since you've had your grill checked out, call the Utah college of dental hygiene and schedule an appointment today.

A Tip on Timing: Before I get into my feedback, just Be Prepared to Start the Online Portion 'the Day You Get Access'. Pick the date wisely. 2 days scheduled for each Module or you will fall so far behind, you will have to start over. It is fast-paced. Minimum 2-3 hours a day. They will send you the expected start and finish date for each module. Order the Yellow Hartman Book before the course access begin-date to get a head start. Skim through it and then sign up for the course. A lot of what is in the book is covered in the online content, but the book has more information that you will need to answer the questions. The online content has more real-life perspective. The 3-day Skills Labs are for the in person demonstration of the skills. As far as the 'Knowledge part' is concerned, one should come prepared from online study and the yellow Hartman book prior to Skills Labs. 'About The Instructors and The Course' What stood out about the NA course at the Utah Training Centers (a total discovery for me) is: 1. Linda! Now that I have taken the course Skills Labs, Linda! What an incredible person, what a great example, so unusual, never heard of, never seen, never heard of. The grit, the resilience, the mental strength to do what she continues to do despite her challenges that appeared out of nowhere. Most would take that limitation and disappear. Linda is the only one, one of only few, perhaps, ONLY ONE I KNOW, that remained strong enough to adapt and continue her passion for Nursing Education. Not just that, with a sense of humor and her demonstrated ability to work as if it is no big deal. It is a VERY BIG DEAL! I liked the focus on getting this done, fast! Cheryl in their office is EXTREMELY helpful in doing her best to make sure you have what you need. Cat works alongside Linda. She is the one teaching in the videos, alongside others. Very thorough and very responsive. 2. The curriculum was very detailed, STRUCTURED, and easy to follow. The videos, the written content, the Hartman book), just the right summary of the most essential knowledge and skills we ALL need, and may need at some point in our life. I believe this should be taught in early years of life, no matter what . It REALLY opens one's eyes to phases of human life we remain blind to till we are 'caught in them' or the repercussions of them. 3.The in-person labs had plenty of students, all age groups. 4. This training is a good way to get onto a path, take it where one wants to take it. I wrote this as I discovered how good thawed frozen apples taste. A REFRESHING treat. Like any middle school, there's a mix of personalities: many of the kids are kind and respectful, while a few can be challenging. Overall, it's a great group of students.
