I have never encountered a contractor as unprofessional and disorganized as MTL. They requested a bid for cleaning their site, and we took the time to provide an estimate. When we proposed a fair cost and timeline to do the job properly, they claimed they only had $1,200 and needed it done the next day. Dillon mentioned it didn't need to be perfect--just prepped for striping, focusing on the "high points."
My crew arrived and began cleaning, assuming the areas that would be striped, as there was no guidance from Dillon or any other MYL employee. Although Dillon was on-site, he was vague about what needed to be done and only reiterated that it needed to be rinsed and washed for striping. We completed the work accordingly and left an hour early after cleaning the assumed striping areas, given the lack of direction. We also had a one-hour drive each way to the job site.
After submitting our invoice, we received an email a few days later stating they were unsatisfied and couldn't take pictures of their site. They offered to pay only $400 for the work, claiming this was sufficient. This was shocking since we were told to prep for striping, not pictures. Had they clarified their expectations, we would have made it clear that $1,200 was insufficient. I contacted Dillon for clarification, and we met at the site nearly a week after the cleaning. We discussed the work, and I reminded him that our original estimate was for two to three days to complete the job correctly. I also reminded him that he had stated it didn't need to be perfect.
I offered a compromise: we would return for two days and clean the lot properly for the originally agreed-upon $3,500. We agreed to proceed on October 22, shook hands, and I followed up a week prior to confirm. My crew lead also confirmed with Dillon the day before. Both times, Dillon assured us everything was set.
However, at 7:37 PM the night before, Dillon texted to cancel the job, saying his business partner had vetoed it. He told me to invoice for the work already completed, which I confirmed was for the original $1,200. He ignored my texts, blocked my calls, and when I resubmitted the invoice, I received the same $400 response. I am stunned by the lack of professionalism and would not recommend MTL for any project. read more
