What an amazing local breakfast place! Simple - quick - friendly - nostalgic I got the Bacon and Cheese Omelette and my husband got the Mud Pile. It was delicious! Our waitress was so friendly and the food came out really quick. Our total was so reasonable for 2 meals and 2 drinks - We will most definitely be back.

Must stop in Rapid City!! Food is amazing and the service is even better! Prices are extremely reasonable. The place is definitely "interesting" looking but don't let that deter you! It's worth the stop.

AWARENESS: The wife and I were on vacation in South Dakota in late June of 2022 when I had to have new tires installed on my truck in Rapid City. After the installation, we decided to find a local breakfast spot to eat at since, that's what you do when on vacation. Yelp came through again when reviews pointed us here to the Mud Hole restaurant. NARRATIVE: Let me start this review by saying, this is the most unique eatery I've ever had the pleasure of dining in. Walking up to address, I had to stop at the doors entrance and ask my wife if she thought we should knock on the door first. Why? because, Mud Hole looks like someones home from the outside and peeking through the window and opening the front door, it appeared it was a private home. Inside, the entire front and right side of the restaurant is loaded with second hand, five and dime type stuff. Old sewing machines. Old dolls, books and everything else you would find in a second hand store. To the left, there are both booth and table seats but nothing truly defining Mud Hole as a place to eat. Towards the back of the place is a doorway with menu signage all around it. And behind the window, the kitchen. When I say this place is unique, I mean it. I don't recall what the wife ordered but I ordered their single biscuit with gravy and two medium eggs. I also ordered a sweet tea. The food here is AMAZING! Home made buttermilk biscuit with farm fresh eggs, all served up on paper plates. SCENE: Mud Hole is located down town Rapid City on E Main Street at the corner of East Blvd, directly across the street from the fire station. Inside you'll find all kinds of second hand items for sale and of course, you can grab some great chow. Peeking through the ordering window into the kitchen area, I could see the kitchen is new and modern with all the bells and whistles and it was extremely clean. RECOMMENDATION(S): My review speaks for itself. This place is one of kind and a MUST TRY if your in the area.

This is an awesome place to catch a breakfast or brunch! The menu is creative and fun, with plenty of home style comfort food. You can tell the small staff are extremely hard workers and still make time to make you feel like family the moment you walk in the door. If you are visiting the Black Hills and don't stop in for a breakfast here, you are doing yourself a disservice. 5 out of 5 Stars, with my highest recommendation! read more

Mud Hole is the charming, affordable and cozy Mom 'n' Pop breakfast spot that Rapid City has strangely always lacked. Well, folks, this is it! The menu is simple but delicious; get the Mud Bog, a delicious plate of scrambled eggs and mushrooms stuffed in two homemade biscuits, smothered in tasty sausage gravy and sprinkled with shredded cheddar cheese, for a wholesomely filling start to your morning. Also, a cup of piping hot coffee that never sits unfilled by the lovely owner is only a dollar. Mud Hole is also a vintage/antique shop so there are plenty of interesting knickknacks, artwork, furniture and curiosities to peruse and take home after you've stuffed your face. And the owners are just plain nice, warm people who make you feel like you're a guest in your eclectic aunt and uncle's home rather than eating out in a restaurant. Full stop, if you want a great breakfast served by sweet people in an interesting and comfortable setting and get some vintage goods shopping at the same time, get your behinds into the vinyl booths and wooden kitchen chairs at Mud Hole and dig in! read more

This place is casual and unpretentious but the food is unparalleled and the staff are excellent. We even went back for another breakfast on our last morning in Rapid City. Do yourself a favor and get the pearl sugar waffle or at least share it with someone. Our entire group of six thought it was the best waffles they had ever had. read more

We found this place through Yelp and was reading the reviews this place is amazing the mud bog is absolutely wonderful the biscuits are soft the gravy has a amazing flavor which blends all the other ingredients into one I would highly recommend eating here if you're traveling two thumbs up for some wonderful and great food Not to mention The hospitality of the staff it's a small mom and pop place but it's absolutely fabulous read more

Flew in late last night. We looked for a hole in the wall place and boy did we find one. This is a must stop if you are tired of the big chains. The owner is also the cook. It's a real deal place with real people. We had the "mud bog". It was great. The extra sausage patty sealed the deal. The gravy reminded me of what grandma made. Also the coffee isn't just Folgers coffee. I don't know what kind it was but it was tasty. Great service, great people. read more

I definitely recommend the Pearl Sugar Waffle. It's not overly sweet, and it has a great crunch on the outside but the inside is still fluffy. The bacon was terrific, not the paper thin stuff you get everywhere else. It was a thicker cut that actually had meat and flavor to it. read more

A little hole in the wall. Place order by the chalkboard menu and have a seat. Pay when you are done eating. Girl who took the order does not seem to care about being here - this is why the 4 stars. Food on paper plates, metal silverware - no problem. Cook delivered the food - friendly! Food was great!!! Very reasonably priced. Excellent little hole in the wall diner for breakfast and lunch. The owner, David, along with his wife and daughter are excellent hosts and provide wonderful service. My husband and I had a great breakfast. I had the mud hash bash and he had the scramble. Order the cinnamon donut holes, they're so good! Don't be put off by the exterior of the place. It is a hole in the wall but we'll worth it. Highly recommend!! read more

Oh boy where to start so many positive things to say. Located in the quainter part of downtown in Rapid City, SD is that Gem of a hole in the wall restaurant. I have been here a few times for breakfast, and never left without being 100% satisfied with the exceptional service and food. My favorite being a dish called the Mud Bog a delectable spin on the classic biscuits and gravy. Biscuit with egg and potato mixture add a sausage patty slather it in sausage gravy. Absolutely addicting. The staff is always super energetic and happy- giving this place a chill like you were family vibe. They engage with each and every customer I've observed enter the establishment. I kid you not everyone left smiling. I would give The Mud Hole more stars but yelp only allows 5. Keep it up Mud Hole. This little dime in the heart of Downtown Rapid City is a great place for a quick, cheap breakfast/brunch/lunch. The staff is very friendly, their gravy is delicious, and the coffee is just as good. The servings are fairly large, so you won't go hungry. The atmosphere is quiet, but makes you feel at home. Coming from the South, this little diner brought the soul food I grew up with. Definitely a go-to for some comfort food! read more

I was pleased with the crust and amount of cheese and pepperoni I just was not a huge fan of the type of sauce used. But still solid pizza for me. And again just happy to even have an option. I also super loved that they had things like cane sugar sodas I got this awesome rootbeer from 1919! Ryan got a cider and he got some cheesy bread. The buffalo dip was a good flavor. And it is in a cute neighborhood here we were able to walk around and explore while we are here for his work in Rapid City South Dakota! The people here seemed friendly and got us everything we needed. We would definitely come back here. Looks like they also do things like trivia and other fun events!

I downloaded this app just to leave a five star review. A wonderful one of a kind restaurant that I've never seen before. The food isn't too pricey and it comes with great quality. The people who work here are extremely nice and very charismatic. They are friendly and love to talk to their customers. I made a mistake when ordering my food and they didn't hesitate to correct it. Is this a real restaurant? I think they're just trying to make money to pay for their hoard storage. If I went to my friend's house and they served this food, I would tell them I ate somewhere else, then go eat somewhere else. I've never seen a microwave so much at the center of a working kitchen that charges for food. My kids can cook better than this. read more

Been traveling across the states and by far the best breakfast. You have to get the biscuits and gravy, or if you're not adventurous get it on the side. Everything was fresh, homemade, and cooked to perfection. The hot donut holes afterwords was the perfect ending. I'm leaving stuffed, and will come back! read more
