Great place to hang out, chat, work, play chess, or just people watch. The coffee is okay, but if you're a coffee snob (like me) get an apple cider or something. It's generally pretty weak and sometimes burnt. Staff is great other than the owner - he chats with folks he knows and ignores others while messing up drink orders frequently. Overall, my favorite place to hang out and read or sit with a friend in Burlington, you just have to know what to expect and find your favorite things on the menu. read more

Cold brew ice coffee was very diluted. It was closer to water than coffee. It could be a bad batch. 1 star compare to Starbucks's cold brew. The server seemed to be a little pissed off that day. I thought the coffee was OK I had a Costa Rican coffee. It wasn't exactly fresh. At least it wasn't expensive ($2.00). The shop looks cool. Definitely one of the more unique looking ones. NO WiFii, which I can see being good, but if you're looking to do anything needing internet access, don't go here. read more

Stop there for breakfast - had probably the best granola in town, great portion super affordable and my soy latte was delicious. Only downside - no space to sit down, the coffee house was packed with people on their PC. read more

This is to the Alley Bully hi you may not have known the woman with the laundry on her back and dark sunglasses, she's my daughter and I'm a lawyer who does his job well, she explained to me she was sick had to step in the Alley to get sick and after found a steel door full of stickers, that $he interesting, so on her way out she stopped and read them, and at that time this reddish brown hair about 220 pound he was working around 11:00 am 12:00. So they next time your in a ALLEY sir mind your buissness. If she was destroying something or in the wrong,I could see you running your mouth but you work in muddy waters,stay there. You want to see some hippies? Come here. It's always crowded, and its usually hard to find a place to sit. The coffee is good, and the food is decent. The only thing that really knocked my socks off here is the vegetarian chili. Interesting interior and a very large selection of drinks and food for a pretty small cafe. There are a lot of varieties of spread for bagels and sandwiches too. I was here on a Sunday morning, the crowd seemed friendly, and over the twenty or so minutes I was here, more and more people piled in. They accept credit cards here which is great! read more

If I had one coffee-shop wish, it would be that Uncommon Grounds and Muddy's would join forces. Uncommon Grounds could supply the delicious brews for which they are known and Muddy's could supply the atmosphere I love without UG's weird, sometimes overpowering raw coffee bean smell. The only palatable brew I've found thus far at Muddy's is their apple cider - which happens to come from a gallon jug of the same sort you can buy at any grocery store. That said, I love their decorating and environment, it's like being inside a secret, upscale treehouse, complete with art on the walls. My only decorating complaint is that the stuffed, comfy chairs are always taken. read more

To be honest, I think the coffee and cocktails leave something to be desired here, but I still give it four stars for the atmosphere and the fact that it is a great place to go with people of mixed drink tastes (as some can order coffe or tea and others can order cocktails or beer). super cozy and great drinks. i don't really like their black coffee, it has tasted kind of old every time i've gotten it plain. otherwise, lattes and hot chocolate are great! i also love getting a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese (SO MUCH cream cheese) or a biscotti I took off one star because the seating arrangement leaves something to be desired. it has a cute cozy feel, but there's very limited seating and the chairs/tables are really close to each other in the middle section of the room. otherwise i love this place to death! read more

I had never been here before and figured I would try it. I'm a liquor kinda guy, not really into beer. When I asked about a margarita the lady behind the counter said she can make one. She brings me this margarita that tasted like straight tequila with a dash of lime juice. When I finished my drink she asked me if I liked it, in which I absolutely did. Two Saturday nights ago, I came down to Muddy Waters to do some writing done (like the other 300 million of us, I'm working on the Great American Novel), and found, to my surprise... NO POWER OUTLETS! The coffee was good, the live music was great, and the barista was cute... but there were no power outlets to be found. For a MacBook user, that would be no big deal. For a 3-year-old-laptop-with-no-battery-user, that's kind of a big deal. One star for the music, and one star for the coffee. read more

I grew up in Burlington and Muddy Waters just always seems to have been there. They are often crowded--it can be hard to get a seat or table certain times of the day. They have coffee, bear, tea and some baked goods. They have books and games around the cafe to use while you're there. Good to support a local business. read more

Although it's now riddled with memories of late-night jaunts with ex boyfriends, I will always have a secret love affair with Muddy's. I don't regularly have food there as their specialty is making fabulous drinks. I have had some of their desserts and I must say they were delightful. They trump all franchised coffee I've had. They've mastered their smoothies and shakes (especially ones with espresso) and their specialty coffees I take my time to enjoy. They also have a good selection of brews from local breweries. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. I have gotten lost in a book many a time in Muddy's. I can't resist it. read more

Even though it seems that this is Burlington's coffee spot, I must say from non-Burlingtonian perspective it wasn't that great. Coffee tasted burnt and just mediocre. Starbucks could even beat the flavor of this place. The atmosphere on the other hand was very relaxing. Unfortunately there was no wifi. The Baristas were great though and gave me pleasant service. Before I moved to Burlington, I visited, and I remember going to Muddy Waters for the first time and thinking, "I gotta move to this town." The cozy, Hobbit house-design charmed my pants off, and the coffee was damn good too. Now I take it for granted, as a quick place to grab coffee, a convenient locale for business meetings and a fairly distracting place to work (what with all the cute college girls studying). But when I bring an outta towner to Muddy's for the first time now, they're always just as enchanted as I was that first time, and I get to remember what a cool town I live in. Charmingly rustic coffee shop. The homemade chai is a must! Great place if you're looking for some excellent coffee-tea like drinks and a quiet place to meet up with friends. However, doing any sort of 21st century work may be challenging here with the lack of wifi. read more

Loved it. This was our one coffee stop on our way through town. Our drinks were perfect. The staff friendly and efficient. The ambience inviting. Just wished we didn't have to get it to go. This place is on my Burlington short list. I just love the interior - such a unique interior remodel, and really a master class on how to take a small unremarkable space and totally transform it into a unique, memorable setting with some thought (and very cool woodworking skills - perhaps from Yestermorrow folks?) The food/drink offerings really match up as well - there is always something cool tucked away on their menu, and even though the seats are all usually taken, on two totally separate vists seats opened up within 10 minutes of our arriving. A cool mix of students and locals, taking in the vibe. The tea by the pot is a screaming deal, and I have also enjoyed the well curated tap list as well. The veggie chili and fruit pie put it all together to take the edge off our arrival after a long day of driving. Top marks for a cool place in a cool town, keeping that 90s B-town spirit alive! read more

Without exception, this is Burlington's signature coffee shop. The joe is consistently strong, the atmosphere is cozy and the owners, Mark & Kerry, are about the friendliest folks you could ever hope to meet. Many an afternoon and evening I spent reading paperbacks in one of their many comfy chairs, convinced there was no place finer to do so. My one tiny complaint, even though I haven't been back there nearly enough since I moved to LA, so maybe this has since changed: Muddy's staff never seemed to play jazz as much as they originally did. read more

After visiting a sporting goods store to get some cross country skis i discovered i was not awake enough to make an intelligent decision. The nice man that was helping us suggested muddy waters. I was impressed with the amount of choices they had including all fruit smoothies. Service, coffee, prices were very good. Seemed like a nice place to hangout, but I got my cortado to go.

Being inside is like being in a tree house, such a great spot to stop in especially to get warm!
