We came here for dinner when we stayed overnight in Bonners Ferry. We sat at the bar, which is cozy and friendly, and was waited on fairly quick. We each had a cocktail and ordered dinner. I had the Black and Blue salad and the steak was cooked perfectly MR. The salad was fresh and crisp, a large portion, and plenty of homemade blue cheese dressing. My BF had the Swiss mushroom burger. He ate 3/4 of it! He said it was very tasty. I tried it and he was right. The burger was soooooo good. Our service was steady and attentive. I asked for a to go box of their popcorn. This is my first time meeting here and it was a really good vibe from the moment I walked in. The two waitresses I think they were mother and daughter who waited on me and were both very nice and sweet. Really great service. I decided to get the homemade chili. It was OK. It didn't really taste homemade. But it was pretty good and then I got the sampler platter and that was pretty good. You could tell that a lot of people from the community go to this restaurant. We went to Mugsy's today after an unexpected trip to the emergency room. My wife was on crutches, and I had just done laundry with a toddler and an 8 year old, so neither of us was particularly in the mood to cook. The Mexican restaurant in town is closed on Tuesdays, and we were feeling adventurous so we traipsed across the street to Mugsy's, and boy am I glad we did. Near the front door I noticed a rather large collection of glass trophies declaring Mugsy's the "best" in Bonners Ferry, and, after our visit, I can see how one might arrive at that conclusion. The place seems kind of small from the outside, but inside it's quite expansive and nicely laid out. It was quiet, so we were told to seat ourselves as we pleased, which was great. The atmosphere is upscale rustic, lots of interesting illustrations and other artwork hanging on the walls, but well presented and orderly. The service was very friendly, accomodating and generally excellent. Our toddler is very busy, likes to explore and be walked around which wasn't a problem here at the after lunch/before dinner time at which we arrived. The menu was extensive with a wide array of sandwiches, burgers, pasta dishes, etc. most with familiar arrangements (French dip, for instance, or Cowboy burgers with onion rings and barbecue sauce) so it's easy enough to find something you will likely enjoy with a very low risk factor of disappointment. I ordered the Bistro Burger and my wife ordered the Cowboy Burger and we halved them so we both had essentially the same thing. The burgers were ENORMOUS. For the $16-17 price point, I feel like I got my money's worth here. It wasn't that much more expensive than Badger's Den, or even Burger Express, but the burger patties were easily 5-6" in diameter and at least half an inch thick & juicy as all get out. Both burgers were generously adorned with BBQ sauce or aioli (a hint that you should ask for extra napkins) and very flavorful. We opted for house fries and tater tots, which were both excellent, but for a modest price one could also sub in beer battered onion rings. We figured we already had rings covered with the Cowboy Burger, but it's worth mentioning that the beer batter was tremendously good. We will definitely be back. I'm already craving the French Dip I saw on the menu, and I'd really like to try their "Rattlesnake Pasta." There's so much more to try, and since we had the kids and all, we didn't even touch the beer menu (which is extensive). In summary though, we were very impressed with everything from the service to the food and now have a new favorite restaurant for those days when you kind of want the option of a bit of everything, done well and at a reasonable price. Excellence at an excellent value. Mugsy's is amazing. Get you some. PS: Parking on the street can be a little iffy, however, there was ample parking both behind the restaurant by the BF Public Library, and catty corner across the street behind the bank of red brick buildings. Also, when it came time to pay for our meal, there was a QR code that we could scan with the phone and pay via card, ApplePay, etc. Or, if you like doing things the old fashioned way, they're obviously set up for that, too. read more

Jessica was warm and welcoming as soon as I walked thru the front door. Sit anywhere you like she says. I picked a two top and checked out the drink menu, she brought over a lunch menu. She recommended burgers or hmmm I forgot, something else that she said are her go-tos. I selected Rattlesnake pasta, which was grilled chicken and jalapenos with alfredo over pasta. SO good, I totally stuffed myself not even saving room for carrot cake, which a stared at on the back of the menu as I ate. I also got a Lemonade with Huckleberry, oh yeah! about half way thru I knew the cake would have to wait until NEXT TIME! The ambiance was nice, Jessica knew most everyone who came in. I've definitely added it to my revisit list! I think I'll try out the Sip and Paint next. Every third Saturday at 5 pm -- and I can still make it home in time to milk the goat : ) read more

I ordered a chef salad with deli ham and turkey. After waiting 1 hour, I was told they hadn't started on my salad because the ticket in front of mine had ordered chicken. The chicken was frozen and needed to thaw. They wouldn't start to make my salad before that ticket was finished. The ticket before mine wouldn't be finished until the frozen chicken thawed. I ordered a salad... and waited an hour to receive no salad because of frozen chicken on the ticket before mine. Would not recommend. read more

The food at Mugsy's is always fresh and delicious. Today was lunch with a friend while shopping in town. We both ordered the Steak and Cheese wrap. The choice of sides were soup, salad, or fries. We both decided on the Daily soup special - Cream of Mushroom. It was perfect for a snowy day. The soup had the perfect consistency and the pieces of mushroom were fresh, flavorful, and just the right size. This is definitely made from scratch. As for the wraps - Mmmmmm. We both ordered our steak medium rare and our choice of cheese - one with Swiss (me) and one with provolone. The steak was tender, perfectly cooked chunks of steak with the cheese and fresh veggies. Due to the generous portions we had to pass in dessert- this time. Service was also spot on as usual. read more

My daughter and I enjoyed a very nice meal tonight at Mugsy's. The restaurant is fairly large with outdoor seating that is covered with a nice pergola and there are quite a few tables inside. I did not see any booths, I believe it is all tables with chairs. Everything was clean and well kept. Service was quick and friendly with my only gripe being the brimming of the soda with ice. If they put less in, there would have been a need for fewer refill trips. We both ordered burgers and both were excellent. Very obvious that they are generous sized, hand formed parties. Toppings on both were excellent. My daughter had the Butternut Squash/Jalapeño soup side which was very good and I had the side salad with blue cheese. I believe the dressing was house made. We finished things off by sharing a huckleberry cheesecake. As mentioned in an earlier review it is not too sweet, making it a perfect way to finish off the meal. My husband and I drove to Bonners ferry to see what there is to see, but the next time we come up here, we will be be seeing what there is to eat... at Mugsy's Tavern! Seriously, most of the restaurants were closed today because it's Sunday, and I'm glad they were because it let us to the right place. Mugsy's is very cute, but clubby little ambience aside, the Black & Blue Salad was amazing. It could not be better. The sirloin was ordered medium rare, and I could cut it with the edge of my fork. The bacon was crispy and a blue cheese was top shelf. But the real showstopper at Mugsy's is there chicken wings. I know, wings are typically a little pedestrian, a little common, but not these! They were the plumpest, most succulent wings I have ever eaten in my life. I complained the waitress that she didn't warn us that they were as addictive as crack. Next time we come here, My handsome husband and I will share either the black and blue salad or the seafood salad, and fill out the rest of our meal with wings. There's probably many show stoppers on their menu, but I don't know if I can ever make it past the wings. Seriously, they are that good. We ordered the Parmesan garlic and the mango habanero. Nice restaurant and bar owned by a couple who moved from New Hampshire to far northern Idaho. Large menu offers a variety of burgers, sandwiches including a BLT with crabmeat, pasta dishes, salads, chili, daily soup specials, sweet potato fries, and onion rings. Dessert options also, but we didn't have any today. We really enjoyed their special draft root beer served with a nice foamy head in a pilsner glass. Delish! We spoke to the owner who was very friendly and welcoming. She told us the history of the restaurant and pointed out the photograph of MUGSY, a big German Shepherd! I've eaten here several times on my to and from Canada. Never once have I been disappointed. Today, however, they served me, what I truly believe was, the best burger of my entire life. The Drunken Cowboy was beyond it. The bourbon maple bacon sauce and the added thin fried onions made it outstanding. Good food and great atmosphere what more could you want. read more
