Just before the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, the final exit off the westbound direction of the 580 freeway had me curious. Seriously. Did Stenmark Drive actually go somewhere interesting? Well, it goes into a peninsula that looked pretty barren to me whenever I drove by it, so on a free weekday morning, I satisfied my curiosity and drove on this strangely semi-deserted, pothole-riddled road where I passed by abandoned buildings, a deteriorated pier, and a fairly desolate beach. I turned right over a hill where the pavement got smoother and the road narrower. Welcome to Point San Pablo Harbor. I caught sight of the eclectic houseboats on the harbor as soon as I rounded the bend. There looked to be a toll booth at the bottom of the hill, but it was abandoned. There was a pen of goats none of whom looked thrilled to see me (photo: https://bit.ly/33iQ2V1), and finally a large, unmarked gravel parking lot that was empty during the week but packed on the weekends. The most intriguing find was the mammoth sculptures that look like Burning Man remnants...a mosaic alligator (photo: https://bit.ly/3nqTnIv), a giant bee (photo: https://bit.ly/3tray0D), a broken-down ice cream truck (photo: https://bit.ly/3Gsf9TH). On certain weekends, they have live music on a makeshift stage set up in the open meadow, and there's a great open place for BBQ on weekends, Black Star Pirate, to which I brought Jamie W. on a follow-up trip (review: https://bit.ly/3ts46qc). If you've got free time on a random Saturday, check it out. It's definitely different. RELATED - Exploring this part of Contra Costa County? This place is amazingly beautiful. So are the retired burning man statues. There's a beach, pier, restaurant and bar. What more could you ask for ?

Biggest secret in the area. Parties, art, events, critters, and the famous Black Star Pirate BBQ on the mini-marina. On a nice day, let you mind sail away.

We hosted our wedding here in September 2021 and it was absolutely magical. All our dreams came true at this perfect location--from the gorgeous waterfront ceremony and stunning photos with incredible sculptures, to a delicious outdoor dinner with live music and dancing the night away in the clubhouse for our reception. It was a truly wonderful experience from start to finish, as the event director went above & beyond to support us in every way. There couldn't be a friendlier community and we are infinitely grateful for the memories made at Point San Pablo Harbor. Highly recommend getting hitched at this enchanting gem!

The restrooms at San Pablo Harbor aren't kept up anymore.

I've loved this spot for a long time but there's been a change seems to have affected the energy at the Harbor. I found the article below which explains a lot. In the years of visiting the Sportsman's Club you felt like you were in a secret nook, with the chance of talking to the residents, learn about the history, and are friendly. But new ownership has taken over. I remember one of the first things they did was take down the old photos of the harbor that were hanging on the walls of the Sportsmens Club. ?? These were pictures captured the whaling history of the harbor, residents and settlers. Of course you can still talk to the residents if you venture over the hill, they're great. But since ownership has changed, there seems to be an intent to bring a Burning Man element to the harbor and squeeze what they can from the long time residents who deserve to be secure in their homes. Two stars, a star for the residents and a star for the scenery. No stars for the different owners. Choppy Seas for Boat Dwellers A live-aboard community in a picturesque setting in Richmond is facing huge rent hikes, while the harbor's owners are looking at millions of dollars in upgrades. https://www.eastbayexpress.com/oakland/choppy-seas-for-boat-dwellers/Content?oid=11755163

I discovered this place today, didn't know there was even a harbor let alone a restaurant way out there! Nobilis had it's Grand Opening today and it was jamm'in! It's a long trek out on a bumpy road and if you didn't know better you would think there's nothing on that side of the bay. (it's the opposite side from Point Richmond) take your time and enjoy the sites from the other side of the bay!

Lovely environment. Great service. Nice music. Ceasar salad and fish and chips were excellent but not a fan of the seafood stew with curry.

In February, we celebrated the birthday of a friend. She was very excited and over the moon to dine here. We had eight at the table and they tailored the menu to her tastes. The food was as perfect as it could be. The printed menu also acknowledged her birthday, a very nice touch! Each course was beautifully presented and delicious. A few days before our scheduled dinner, I packaged a box of hoshigaki (dried persimmons) and gave them to Chef Darren, asking if they could incorporate them into the menu. These were special because I had dried them myself. They are also a favourite treat for the birthday girl. I gave the kitchen free reign to use them however they saw fit, and keep the rest for themselves to enjoy. I was so pleased with what they did. It was the simplest presentation - stuffing them with a soft cheese and walnuts - the combination was a perfect marriage of textures and flavour, letting the persimmon shine through. Two months later, we had the good fortune of being invited to dinner by our friends to acknowledge an event that happened a year prior. Once again, Chef Darren did not disappoint. Using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, his palate comes through in every bite. Pastry Chef Yooni's ethereal, gluten-free desserts were also a lovely way to end the meal - on a sweet note that you want to linger just a little more. Dining here three times within six months gave me the opportunity to get to know Chefs Darren and Yooni a little and see their passion for food and creativity. They are both very personable and delightful people. You can tell that they truly enjoy what they do. Thank you both for the amazing food and dining experience, you guys rock!

Rodent infestation alert!…read more Man I really wanted to like this place but read on. We stored our belongings here while we were between houses and traveling. All the usual stuff - furniture, clothes, workout equipment, etc. When we got back after 8 months to start moving out, there was a severe rat problem. Piles of poop and pee everywhere. A bunch of our stuff was damaged or destroyed. Furniture chewed up, wedding memorabilia destroyed, our baby bassinet full of poop and pee. They got in boxes of clean coffee mugs, ate the packing paper, and peed all over them. Not what I expected for $500 a month! Before you ask - no, there was no food or otherwise that would have attracted animals. They chewed through fabric and paper so apparently they eat anything. I went to the office and talked to the manager. He said there's nothing they could other than spraying some repellant. Mind you we weren't going to fully empty the unit for months. What am I going to do? Hire a moving company and find another spot? I told the manager that I've used other storage companies and never had a problem like this. He actually said: "all storage facilities have rodent issues". WTF! I emailed the company and the owner 3 times to give them an opportunity to make it right. They never responded. Don't take the chance. Find another place! (For clarity we stored feb 2024 to mar 2025)

For some reason, Art and his assistant manager started to charge us for extra usage when we was never charged of it before such as: decorating the night before $150, ice machine $50 & hour early the day of the party $75. Our event was on Saturday, so on Friday night when we came to decorate, no one told us there was going to be a group of motorcyclist playing loud music and possibly drinking in a room next door. To be honest we was afraid our beverages was going to be stolen and damages to our decorations. The assistant manager told us when we're done to just close up behind us, the entrance door WAS NOT LOCK !! Unbelievable! While setting up, they already had 6 damaged tables that they weren't aware of, so of course we had to bring some of our own due to their lack of "checking damages" from whatever the previous event that was hosted there. The day of the event, we notice there was a mystery worker that just showed up to our party and started eating and taking our food. At the end of the event, she came back and we ask who she was, she told us she was a member to veterans hall. Like really? Before our event even started, the bathroom weren't even clean! Wet floor and toilet paper everywhere! To make this whole matter worse, the owner is so "money hungry" that he kept our money that he was suppose to give back if there weren't any "damages" to the hall. He claim we weren't getting the deposit due to over capacity. If it wasn't for their broken tables and sh*t, then we wouldn't have to bring our own tables to make it look like we was over capacity. No where in the contract shows that the deposit is included if it's over capacity. All it showed was damaged deposit. So this guy will bull shit his ways to get and make money from you guys. I wouldn't recommend this hall at all. Having a rental license didn't do shit as well. Spend your money else where at a safer neighborhood!

The issues we had was getting our deposit back. He claimed that we scratch up the floors and whatnot. Which I know we didn't do. We left everything as how we first saw it. So don't expect to get your deposit back if you going to rent this location. Oh yea, just be warned. Both men and women bathroom is waaay below standard.

But none of that makes up for the absolute disaster that is this marina's management. Power at the slips is unreliable--often dipping as low as 206 volts on a 50-amp pedestal, well below safe standards for sensitive equipment. Report basic maintenance issues, like leaky spigots, and you'll be met with silence. Maybe it's a revolutionary self-cleaning dock feature that I'm not privy to. Far more troubling, though, is the culture of selective rule-making and enforcement. Pat, the harbormaster, zips up and down the dock on a scooter, seemingly deciding who gets harassed and who gets a pass. Christine splits her time between marina duties and bartending at the yacht club, bringing inconsistency and attitude to both. In fact, the dysfunction here is so pronounced that it made headlines. A Marin Independent Journal article from 2013 (with several follow-up updates) details a surreal incident in which a marina regular bit off Pat's finger during a dispute in the vacant lot next door (now occupied by the housing development known as "The Strand"). The man had been building a catamaran out of Home Depot parts--destined for Hawaii. Sounds unbelievable--until you've spent time here. Then it just feels like another day at Loch Lomond. I briefly served as the entertainment director for the yacht club, and while the members were gracious and welcoming, their warmth couldn't compensate for the mismanagement that defines the harbor itself. Avoid--unless you're nostalgic for chaos.
