Generally safe just be mindful of your surrounding always. Anytime,anywhere. This really is a nice park. Lots of greenery,really nice during the cooler temperature months. Small playground area,lots of tables and benches spread out all over for seating,covered basketball court,public swimming pool. And of course what stands out the most is the pretty large Disc Golf course. The Disc Golf course takes up the majority of the park. I've never played before. Maybe I should give it a shot. The one thing I truly wish this park has was some kind of walking trail or pathway to follow. But I understand the primary focus is the Disc Golf course. You can still take a nice walk just kind of create your own path. And I try to stay out of the way of the disc golf course that's being occupied to avoid being in the way or hit by a disc haha.

I am scouting a park location for my next outdoor venue. This park didn't quite meet my criteria; however, there are still few pluses. As I was walking around, I noticed the poop stations along the trail. I know these are for those responsible dog owners to clean up after their Fido's. The trees are mostly evergreen, which means shades throughout the year. With the amount of vegetation here, it's actually an ideal location for portrait photography. I was also surprised to see the air ferns draping from the trees, just like Pele's Hair in Hawaii. It made me homesick. This is really a neighborhood park. I could see some tree seedlings on the south side of the park near the house fences. I figure it's because of springtime, grassy field was blooming. If you're allergic to pollen, stay home. I walked the entire trail, despite the already marked distance. I found part of trail missing. I had to get on the city sidewalk to complete the loop. Oh, there is not parking lot. So, park on the streets.

Much to my surprise, this "little" neighborhood park was well-kept, not busy, and much bigger than I expected! Not only is there a tennis court and backboard for tennis fans, there's a 1/3 mile running/jogging trail winding around the park, with a baseball field, playground, and plenty of shaded picnic areas and water fountains. What a well-kept secret! While we were there, only a handful of neighborhood folks were there, but the equipment is clean, the trail is fairly well-kept up, and it's a safe area to bring the kids. Every time I come here there are typically 5-10 other people on the playground, walking dogs, or eating/talking under a pavilion. On weekends I've seen youth soccer and baseball games at the same time. There's a community center that is rarely used but they advertise Zumba classes. Free parking is plentiful for the size of the park with approximately 40 spaces. It's a community park so patrons should help with upkeep but that is a bit lacking. Overall, a nice spot for me to do some walking or jogging while feeling generally safe.

Since it was already close to closing time at 8 pm, we didn't get a chance to go inside, but the facilities appear to be fairly new. There were quite a lot of people around, with families walking, kids playing sports, and people enjoying the different amenities. It was nice to see such a diverse group of people making good use of this public space. There's also a walking trail, so it's a nice place to bring the family or simply come by yourself for a leisurely walk, some fresh air, or a little people-watching. I didn't notice any public restrooms outside, though, so that's something to keep in mind. Overall, it seems like a great community facility and a nice place to spend some time outdoors.

It may have taken a few years, but the Alief Neighborhood Center finally came into fruition early…read morelast year to help revitalize one of Houston's most vibrant neighborhoods. For both outdoor and indoor activities, this is an incredible option for folks in the community. The space is substantial with a bevy of options that include a skatepark, swimming pool, tennis courts, an enormous children's playground, and lots of room for folks looking to exercise outdoors. It is a pet friendly area and a perfect destination for families, social gatherings, and even special occasions. Parking is abundant all throughout the property. The neighborhood center includes a gym + fitness center (#1), basketball courts, and indoor walking track. There are venue spaces for both adults and children for up to 25 people at no cost. There is also after school enrichment programs for kids, teens, and additional programs for seniors. There are volunteer opportunities and community development programming throughout the year. Because it's still fairly new, the facilities and everything are in good shape. Time will tell if they will be able to maintain it but for now it serves as an ideal resource for folks looking to get active and be a part of the Alief community. This large park in Gulfton, not to be confused with Bayland Park down the street, is home to soccer…read morefields, a simple paved running trail, a playground, basketball courts, skate park, splash pad and recreation center (the Community / Rec Center has a separate Yelp page). It is a hive of activity in the late afternoon and evenings when people are out playing soccer, basketball and running on the track. Older residents of Gulfton, both men and women, walk the park's single trail for exercise. Lots of children can be found at the playground and there are several Pokemon Stops around the recreation building. During pre-pandemic times there would be Zumba at the Rec Center and homely Hispanic vendors at the parking lot selling snacks and candy out of their vans. What it is not: not much nature. This park is several large blocks of grass with trees lining the walking trails rather than nature preserve. With that said, the park is large and a breath of fresh air for the residents of Gulfton, many of whom live packed in the large apartment complexes around the park. It is not really a picnic spot as majority of the free space is taken up by the soccer teams, so unless you picnic near the kids' playground, you are in danger of a stray soccer ball. This park is not "scenic" but it serves an important need in the local community. Trash collection and cleaning of the park can always be improved. Safety: the park seems quite safe, even in the evenings due to the popularity of the park and large number of people present. The blue-collar residents of Gulfton do not tolerate homeless people asking for handouts, particularly when their own children frequent this park, and I never saw any homeless people or thugs on the weekday evenings when I would come to this park.

The only issue I have with this park is the SAFETY at the bathrooms. Why is men & women bathrooms right next to each other? There is no door to restroom entrances. Who designed this?!? Considering there are all ages on the field. Suspicious people wandering in front of women bathroom. There is security but they are too busy on the field watching games. I'm not quite sure if that's part of their job... I would not leave unsupervised children to go to bathroom. The children I was with reported suspicious behaviors with an unstable man roaming nearly going inside the women's restroom.

This review is solely for their tennis courts. There's tons of parking! There are currently three…read moretennis courts. A fourth has been converted into two stationary pickleball courts. The pickleball courts are open play style: That is, they have a rack that you put your paddles in to be randomly assigned to the next game. If you want to play with your friends just put your four paddles together. Water and bathroom are located just outside the courts. It's a lovely community offering AND the courts are illuminated for night games. I stayed with some friends from 7-10PM on a Saturday and there were only two other groups there, so we got plenty of game time. Love having a free spot available to play!
