This large 104 acre park is home to a multitude of recreational activities including baseball, basketball, soccer fields, disc golf, tennis courts, playground equipment, a community pool, and 1.4 miles of paved trails! The park is also home to a community center built in Spanish mission style that held community events pre-covid. The newest function of Mason Park is to protect against pollution and flooding via a stormwater retention pond. Starting in 2006, the banks of Brays Bayou were widened within Mason Park to reduce the threat of flooding and an additional 3.5 acres of wetland were created. These series of ponds clear pollutants from drain-off water and serve as a home for plant and animal life. We saw plenty of ducks and turtles here when we were visiting! To get to the stormwater retention pond, cross the bridge and walk along the path. The bridge also serves as a good photo op!

Helen's Park is located near a neighborhood library and YMCA center. We always park our car at the YMCA next door and walk over. It's very peaceful here when there's not a crowd of people (which there usually is - everyone taking professional photos). The running water flowing through the middle of the park makes the environment very tranquil. The pictures below are from a cold winter day and don't do the park justice, but in the springtime when the greenery and flowers are in full bloom, I guarantee it is beautiful!

The park is located at 2811 Travis St. and is super convenient when it comes to parking, there's plenty of street parking around, and there's even a garage directly underneath the park (heads up, you do have to pay to park). The park itself is beautiful and well set up for events. There's a large stage perfect for live entertainment, a grassy hill that provides some nice shade and a place to relax, a small seating area, and even a kids' play zone. They host a lot of events here, but when there isn't something going on, the park is open to everyone to just enjoy. Overall, Midtown Park is a great spot whether you're coming for a festival or just want to chill outdoors. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the Midtown area!

I can most appreciate the security on patrol, clean restrooms, and plentiful green space. The park also boasts a jungle gym and swings for child entertainment (or adults seeking nostalgia). Metered street parking is available nearby. On a Tuesday evening, I had no issue finding parking and will return for future workout classes.

I can't believe that I have come down to the zoo numerous times and never took a little stroll down…read moreand came to this play area. Granted, you would probably be exhausted at the zoo unless you put a timer on like I do, so that we don't all have meltdowns, but I digress. But I am really happy to come across this play area. Was it weird walking up and down the rolling hills of the playground with a stroller? Absolutely. But would I do it again? Absolutely. I really love how they had a rubber ground for the patrons to walk on because I'm really sick of the wood chips. I'm not sure who started putting shards of wood under our children when they play, but I'm over it. We came here on one of the handful of nice weather days weekend down here in Houston. I'm not sure how hot the playground would be during the summer, because a lot of the material here is metal, but I would definitely check it out again!

So, someone at HQ needs to update the name to something other than Harris County. Anyhow, I come here to park my car and ride on the bike trail on the opposite end of Brays Bayou. It's the beginning of the trail system. But parking is scarce. I can only come here on my weekdays off. There's no way to exercise at this tiny park. It has a paved asphalt path of less than 100 feet long and 10 feet wide. It's like a long driveway. It has a gully at the end of this fenced pavement. It's fun to watch hundreds of birds playing on the bayou bed. No, you can't go down there to play with them. The major attractions of Stein Family Park are the giant play area surrounded by well-maintained grassy area. I talked to a maintenance guy. He said the entire play area is available for rent. Besides play sets, there are picnic tables, BBQ stands and fully functional restrooms. He told me he comes daily. I don't know the cost, but you can find it by calling the number on the sign.

The park is cool. My daughter loves it. I wish they had a sidewalk trail type around the play area…read morelike other parks I've gone too of my exercise purposes. But other than that, it's pretty nice. There's a large field for people to play soccer, football, tag, etc. There are multiple attractions for the kiddos to enjoy themselves. There's a covering over benches so you can have parties. Finally, it's always well maintained when my daughter & I visit this park.

It was a beautiful day out. Got there in the early afternoon. There were some people taking pics, but no one playing basketball. There were seats and benches to take breaks on and some areas that had shade. The court had zero shade so we were hot out there; it was mid-October! More like "Hotober" . One thing that made me sad was all the trash on the ground. So much littering in such a beautiful space. My Dad went around and picked up ALL the trash. Wish people would take care of our City. Overall had such a great time and made memories for a lifetime. I love my City!

Very cute. Root Memorial Square is sitting in the center of a circle. The circle is formed by a few…read moreskyscrapers. The sunken basketball court looks intriguing. Because the tall walls can help users bounce the balls wherever they want it to be. This is not a scientific experiment or school project. But it is symmetrically cute. I can't put my hands on the Root Memorial Square. I stared at the court as a young man practicing his kicks on a soccer ball against one side of wall. Then, he switched to be another person to defend his imaginary goal. I was just passing by on the way to Discovery Green. I purposely returned the same way to see the court again. This time is a young couple playing basketball tossing game with a kid. Doesn't matter how the ball bounce to, it always bounces back to the man how bounced the ball in the first place. Now, I wonder. Would that be another use, like filled with water to be a pool, ping pong game, tennis ball dodge game, remote control car racing or just stay there to be a square.
