This was definitely a dive bar vibe which was to be expected. It was dark and dungy with sticky floors and bar tops. There was live music with local talent and a busy vibe. I only ordered a beverage so cannot speak to the food they served. Definitely a great spot for late night drink. read more

A fun little Irish bar in the strip. I stopped in this week to grab dinner and I tried their shepherds pie. It has a little different twist on it, I'm used to it not having melted cheese on it, and the potatoes being a bit more whipped, but the cheese was very sparingly used and had these crispy onion bits on it too. Mullaney's Harp & Fiddle does it right! The Irish breakfast roll was SO good. It's authentic, hearty, and a huge portion. Perfect comfort food and such a great way to spend the weekend. We came down for Sunday brunch and to catch the Steelers game... giant screen inside for the game, plus a sweet patio outside to soak up the last of the summer sun. Excellent service. An older established crowd in a low ceiling, darker environment with an older gentleman singing Van Morrison with a guitar with an occasional violin. Fantastic for a pint of Guinness. Started Friday night with dinner to check out location the day before St. Patrick's Day. Very busy place and like everywhere now-a-days short on staff. Our food took a long time to be delivered as our waitress forgot to place our order in the kitchen. But things happen and we were fine on waiting. Came back the next day for St. Paddy's Day event. I had somewhat of an odd experience at Harp & Fiddle this past weekend. I had only ever previously gone on St Patrick's Day, so we walked in expecting the same lively atmosphere. Instead, it was almost completely sit down restaurant ambiance with no music playing & no socializing outside of people's individual tables. There's not necessarily anything wrong with that, but it just wasn't at all what we were expecting. The beer was fine, but there wasn't anything really special about the choices. Bar service was also fine, and I saw waitresses checking in on the tables. Given the awkwardness we felt when we walked in, however, I don't think I'll be back. Harp and Fiddle, is an old school Irish pub located in the Strip District. They serve some typical Irish pub food and Guinness is always on tap. I first came here several years ago with friends to enjoy the live band. Since then I hadn't been back until just this past year. They typically have live entertainment on Friday's and Saturdays, which is a big draw for me. We came here on the day of the St Patrick's day parade around 11:30 am. Nothing will quite prepare you for a day of day drinking like going to Harp and Fiddle on parade day. We were early enough that there wasn't too many people yet in the tent. They were charging $10 cash to get in the door. I don't mind paying a door fee but they did not advertise this and of course it was cash only, so SOL if you are a card carrier such as myself. Go find an ATM There was a cash bar inside the tent over the deck where one band was set up and inside was a packed sea of people you couldn't maneuver around if you were lathered in oil. I was thinking we were in trouble when arrives a lovely server who kept us supplied with the motor oil the rest our stay, and she took cards! I would recommend stopping here, most especially on a weekend to check out a band and have a cold Guinness. Fun times to be had at an old Irish pub. read more

2.5. The restaurant is conveniently located at the farther end of the Strip. However, because of the new businesses nearby, parking is a big issue. This was my first visit. The interior is small and decorated like you would expect an Irish bar. We arrived before the musician started. Even before the music started it was pretty loud inside. I expected a better beer selection. The table beside us got fish and chips and it looked good, so I opted for that. The chips were decent, but I'm sorry to say the fish was bad, it was a greasy mess. There was a light, coating of breading in the outside, but it was greasy and the fish inside fell apart and was greasy. I just didn't like the fish. Oh and I don't notice it until it was too late, but they have a cash and a charge fee on the bill. I'm so used to throwing down my card to pay and realized after they ran it through that I was charged $2 more to pay by card. read more

The Bartender Declan the Irish spelling (Deaglan) is the Rudest most ignorant Bartender I have ever met in my Life. I went there on Tuesday night to see the Irish Band. The First time I have ever been to this Bar/Restaurant, and the Bartender Refused to Serve me because I did not Tip every Beer I normally Tip 20% or more at the end of the night. I had my empty glass on the edge of the Bar and he walked past me 4 times, and I said excuse me may I have a Beer. He said and I quote "I only Serve people who Tip" There was a couple sitting next to me from Detroit Michigan visiting Pittsburgh, and the Gentleman looked at me in Shock and said I have been to a lot of Bars and I have never heard a Bartender treat a Customer that way! But, this one made up for that. I understand they have live Irish music. We were not interested in that and we're glad the band was not playing because we wanted to have some mild conversation. Typical Irish bar that you would find in New York City. Stopped in Friday night. They had live music, and the band was very good (I didn't catch their name). Sat at the bar. The female bartender liked to banter and kept the Guinness flowing. My pint was never empty for long. Had the Shepherd's Pie. It was tasty. Woke up the next day a bit gassy.....Could have been from the Shepherd's Pie.....Or perhaps it was the many pints of Guinness? No matter. Still had a good time. read more

I may have come here on a bad night but I would strongly not recommend this place. It's a quick pub but our dinner took over 2 hours. We waited 45 minutes for the server to take our orders (she kept saying she'd be right back). And my biggest regret is not asking for my money back for my burnt filet mignon. I had to cut the "seared" outside off to make it taste like anything other than charcoal. I will say that their fresh bread is delicious and warm but that's unfortunately where I have to leave this review. I haven't been here in years and probably why I've never Yelped about this place. I guess at one point you could say I was sort of a regular because my ex-husband is a musician who performed here a lot. I've definitely missed what I would consider to be the closest thing Pittsburgh has to a real Irish pub. Stopped in yesterday (March 15th, the start of St. Pat's weekend) for dinner right after work. Arrived just after 5 pm and there was already a crowd but not packed yet. I imagine that probably changed around 7ish. I love that not much is different. Still serving great Irish pours and whiskeys, Friday live acoustic music and the food. Still pretty solid fare. We shared the shepherds pie which is one of my favorites because the seasonings are spot on and the mashed potatoes are light, fluffy and super tasty. Prices are good and so is the service. I wish it hadn't taken me so long to get back. Now that it's back on my radar I'll frequent more often. Cheers. read more

I've been to the Harp a handful of times over the years, but I've only eaten there twice. Once was quite a few years ago and the second time was this past weekend. The first time I went, I got fish & chips, and I was so unimpressed that it's the primary reason that I refused to eat there since. BUT this past weekend, my wife ordered the fish & chips and wow...awesome! I would definitely order them going forward. It's a huge piece of fish, though, so be prepared. I'm not sure what changed, but I'm glad it's improved. I opted for the blackened tilapia sandwich, which was also really good...and larger than I expected. My only complaint was that it seemed like a lot of roll even for the entire filet being on there. The creole mustard/mayo was good, but I used it sparingly. The side of chips (fries) were good and had that typical hand-cut taste. We also ordered the mussels for our appetizer and they were really good. The Smithwick's broth was a different take on what we'd usually get our mussels steamed in and was delicious, and the mussels tasted fresh. Overall, the vibe at the Harp is fun. Their large dining area has a dining hall feeling, which doesn't work for me when it's not busy and you sit down to eat, but it's good for their live music nights (which they have plenty of). I prefer sitting in the smaller bar area. The bartenders are always really nice and there's a nice neighborhood bar feeling when you're up there. I'd say my only real semi-complaint is their limited whiskey options. If you're there for a Guinness, you're going to be happy, but if you want some whiskey, the limited list of Irish whiskeys may be underwhelming. We were told that they're working on making an actual list and adding to it, and there were some perfectly fine options, but you'll be disappointed if you want something even a little adventurous, like a Connemara or something. Regardless, it's a nice, laid back option in the Strip, and if you're in the mood for some fish & chips you're really limited to two excellent options in town: Piper's Pub or the Harp & Fiddle. read more

The pretzel sticks and Reuben are two of my favs. They also have an excellent selection at the bar and offer live music some days. I was here recently for a baby shower. I thought it was an interesting place to hold the event so I was a bit apprehensive. I was here one time before when my partner played a music show so I was like, hmm for a baby shower? But I just went with it. We got in and the lower part of the restaurant was where the babyshower was. So people could still walk through and go to the bar but we had the bottom basically to ourselves. Now I will say that since the restaurant part was right by the door everyone who was going to the bar had to walk through the party. Not a huge deal but kinda an inconvenience. A few times people were like is it open or can I come through. It just was slightly distracting. But the space was open and fun. The kids at the party got to play on the stage. And they seemed to like that. It wasn't baby friendly so much but it's a bar so I didn't expect it to be. The snacks we got to try were a meat, cheese, and veggie tray as well as chicken nuggets and meatballs. The food wasn't bad. I will say the chicken was pretty good and I ate my fair share. I wish there were more veggies, those went really fast. But that was more of an order problem than a representation of the place. The meatballs also weren't bad. I don't know if I would say pick this place for a party like this, but it worked. And if you are ok with it then go with it. The only question I have, do they have ADA compliant bathrooms? Because the bathrooms that we were told to use were in the basement down steep steps. That might be a point to also consider. Other than that, I like it here for drinks and music but might think twice about a baby shower party here. read more
