I left a 3*** review after our visit on Wed Aug 29. Unfortunately, Mullets decided to take it down. Our server, Caleb, was the Best- especially since he was working alone. 3 out of 8 of us were happy with their meals. My grinder was a mess- had to eat it with a fork, and it was bland. My husband and friend had a Philly cheese steak. Never have we seen a cheese steak with DICED meat- also bland. Another friend had burnt ends...the bun was so soggy, she had to eat the meat without the bun. Another friend had burnt ends- he ate most of it, but also disappointed with the soggy bun. Mullets in Uptown Ankeny - Brunch Review Well, we finally made it here for a meal! Brunch it was, and I am glad we did! Mullets in Uptown Ankeny is a relatively new business in the uptown area. They are right off of the High Trestle Trail and provide plenty of parking for cars and bikes. They have a very nice main bar on the first floor and ample comfortable seating at the bar and at tables. But they also have a full bar and expansive rooftop dining area. And on a day like the one we had, it was picture perfect! You can get to the roof by stairs or elevator! Big bonus. The rooftop has nice views of the downtown area, and plenty of seating in or out of the sun. We were seated quickly upon arrival and greeted by our waitress within minutes with ice waters. We quickly ordered Bloody Marys, which are a house recipe ($9). They are plain but flavorful. I like mine spicy, so I asked for Tabasco - the waitress had to go on an excursion but didn't give up until she got it for me! (Thank you!) We finally found the breakfast menu (not pictured), which is a ridiculously difficult thing to navigate, because my desire and my inclination was to just order one of everything! (I guess we will have to keep coming back). We finally narrowed it down to the Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes and the Eggs Benedict Flight. We were not disappointed. The Pancakes are among the best I have ever had! While the Eggs Benedict were delicious, they are almost impossible to eat without a sharp knife and an extra plate. Pro tip - if you get the Eggs Benedict Flight, ask for an extra plate - the delivery presentation is fun to look at but horrible to eat from. read more

Patio views Food was just average bar food, that i feel was far to expensive for what it was. We both ordered burgers and they were just ok. The meat didn't feel flavorful and the fries were pretty dry. I ordered a cherry mule that just tasted like a regular mule. Not at all what I expected. I've only ever had their brunch and I can finally attest their dinner and lunch options are really as tasty!! I am normally a malimosa gal, and they're my favorite item to drink - however I opted for iced teas & the service and refilling was magical. Our server was exceptionally attentive & we truly enjoyed ourselves. Everyone was already underneath the patio cover, so my group sat in the sun but truly didn't mind one bit. Bang for your buck? Simply no, I received 5 wings for $15 and they were okay. I noted that they seemed a little undercooked & received both a discount, more wings then originally served (8 as shown in my picture) and it fixed very swiftly. Which left me with all the good feels, and hence the reason I didn't alter my score too much!! read more

A longtime local elected to have a business discussion in Uptown and selected Mullets. I'm so glad he did, as I have wanted to visit for an extended period. The layout is fun and encourages interaction at each table. You are separated from your neighbor enough to have legitimate conversations. The noise level is good. Their bar was not an issue within the food area. At table 21, we nibbled onion rings and digested Coca-Cola products seemingly forever, but we never felt pressure from management or our server, which was incredibly appreciated. We were here for my nieces graduation party and had rented out the back space... How fitting "business in the front and party in the back!" I would 100% recommend this spot for rentals! They cater the food, and it was delicious! We had fresh fruit, pulled pork sandwiches, macaroni and cheese... all delicious and had everyone going back for seconds. They had two different waiters coming back to take drink orders for adults, and one of them was always in there taking out trash, picking stuff up, refilling the food stations.. super attentive and very kind. Time to check out the new location of Mullets. We have been chomping at the bit to get up here and check out this new location. We headed up on a early Friday evening with a table top of 5. It was a beautiful day. Street parking is available. We parked down the street a little and walked in. I had read the menu online before hand and knew exactly what I wanted. We were seated immediately and there was no waiting. We did not opt to sit on the rooftop this time, but plans to do it on the next visit. The servers and everyone was in a good mood. Lots of TVs on and music playing. The waitress was fairly new. She kept apologizing for not knowing some things, but it didn't bother us in the least. Everyone is new at some point so we didn't care and were happy for her to check on things for us. It came my turn to order and I wanted the Burnt Ends Benedict. I had not seen it on the all day breakfast menu, so I asked. After checking the waitress gave me the bad news that the All day breakfast items. I did my pretend pout and ordered my back up option. I ordered the Avacado and Egg Burger. Beef patty grilled and topped with avocado, egg over easy and American cheese. I got the house fries with it. Hubby (birthday guy) ordered the Wild West Burger. He said he wasnt impressed and wouldn't recommend it. Not worth the cost that it was. Everyone was enjoying their meals when realized we goofed and forgot to order the sweet potato tots. We laughed and said that would be the second reason to make our way back cause we knew how good they were. I also sneakily asked the waitress if they do anything for birthdays celebrations. She smiled and returned with fresh mini doughnuts. They were tossed in cinnamon and sugar and served with our sweet bourbon sauce and chocolate sauce. They were shared around the table and we expressed how the same sauce is served with the tots and how good it is. Overall the experience was good. I need to get back there so I can have Burnt Ends Benedict. Shout out to our waitress again. She handled us well and was very attentive. The Margaritas were terrible tasting and very overpriced at 8.98 each for their small size. Food was adequate. French Fries were Luke warm. Chicken was a little tough. The breaded Tenderloin was a little over cooked and salted a little too much. Service was good. Ambience was great sitting on the rooftop patio on a decent day for cooler temperatures. Kind of disappointed after seeing this location had a 4.6 on google. There was 4 of us in our party. Portions were huge. Some of the food was great. Some just okay. The burger was dry and not well seasoned. Cutlery was interesting. We were all given a knife. Just a knife. I had to request forks. We were not offered refills on drinks. Positives were that the seating was ample and our table was roomy enough. The blackened salmon, fried shrimp and fish were delicious. They have great onion rings. read more

The Pub Pass at Mullets only gets you a "domestic" beer. I don't think they understand that this is intended to be for craft beer. We told our waitress to tell the manager that this is the only place we have visited that would limit you to a Coors Light on tap. She came back and said the Manager has heard this before. read more

I was really surprised (the good type of surprise). We went there for breakfast at the suggestion of a friend. I expected a bar - plain and simple. Perfect experience. Visited during lunch on a Saturday. Sat on the rooftop patio. Surprisingly cool August morning so a great day to be outside. Service was superb. Bartender/server/supervisor Matthew ran the patio like a true professional. Multi-tasking taking care of tables, preparing drinks and supporting his crew was a privilege to watch. The cinnamon bun pancakes had a weird fake cinnamon flavor (2 people ordered them and only took a few bites) the biscuits and gravy had a very strange taste like the gravy was made with corn beef instead of sausage, the sausage patties were dry and mealy and the eggs were cold and slippery. We got sat by the manager at the bar upstairs, he was great! We ordered our mimosas and those came out on time. We then ordered our food and were not checked on for almost hour. Everyone in our party of 4 enjoyed their food. We tried the turkey and Gouda sandwich (definitely grilled), a club, the burnt ends sandwich, the chicken avocado po'boy, and the sweet potato tots (sweet).
