I was not a fan to begin of this building, but it's grown on me. At one time, there was hope Hillsdale, the crossroads of Capitol Highway, Beaverton Hillsdale Highway, Bertha Blvd and Sunset Blvd, would be a new urbanism center, with the library anchoring mixed use shops, office and housing. Hillsdale has schools and pools, restaurants, services, a grocery, even a farmer's market. What ultimately happened was a free standing library building a block from the shop area. Designed by Portland's Thomas Hacker firm, the building is airy. There is a surprising amount of natural light. The warm wood ceiling is supported by a series of steel structures reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright's Great Workroom in the Johnson Wax Building, Racine, WI. Unlike more crowded branches, there is almost never a wait for the computers and you can use your own computer via WiFi. There is a good size parking garage with an EV charging station underneath. There is plenty of table space with outlets. There are children's areas too. Several small study rooms which would be great for tutoring. There is a small park across the street and the first ever McMenamins pub for a beer and burger after your studies. The building solves the problem of Hillsdale's hills with a large interior stairway which seems a waste of space. That provides an entrance and tony Sunset Boulevard address, while most people use the door on DeWitt. Venturi's Seattle Art Museum has the same design. I like the building now after using it. It is the first LEED certified library in the city and if you look you can see those details - excellent. Chill newish neighborhood library. Your and my government at work. Great job.

Part of the mulnomah county library system, this branch received the LEED gold certification as a green building. That means its sustainable in every sense of the word. It also means that its a nice looking brick and glass structure with SO many windows that bring a crazy amount of sunlight inside. Good sized, but not as overwhelming as some other branches. Meeting rooms and computer labs avaialble. Lots of kids activities, obvi, but also community involvement and celebrations too. Check out the site for all the deets.

In the parking garage of the Hillsdale Library.

For years I've been using the library's Summit system as a way to save money on books. I'm surprised not more people do this. I also make use of their online databases, and the workers are more than willing to help with any questions or concerns you may have. The learning center has been a life-saver. Basement: quiet floor, DVD players available First floor: Peet's Coffee, printing/scanning services, rentals of mice, laptops, laptops that play DVDs, etc. Second floor: awesome help desk to help you out with research Third floor: perfect for group meetings. This library has many different spaces available in order to get your school work done; whether it be solo or with a group. There are six floors in the library, half of them are quiet study and the other half allow talking in order for group work to happen. There are quite a few private group study rooms that are available for rent to students (be sure to reserve these way in advance during mid-term and finals weeks). The library has a whole slew of computers as well as several print stations. The print stations are hooked up to web print so you can conveniently print from your own laptop. There is a reference desk located on the second floor. If you don't know where to get started in this large library. you should stop by the reference desk first. I've also had a bit of luck having them help me with my research. These librarians went to school to learn how to research things, go take advantage of their expertise! I also enjoy the various views I can get depending on which side of the library I decide to it on. If you sit on the east side of the building (the front) you have a nice view of the Park Blocks and a beautiful tree that grows right in front of the library. If you head to the west side you get a view of the football field. I have had much entertainment from watching everything from soccer and football practice to martial arts practice and cricket games.
