This is definitely one of my favorite library in the area! They have so many books that most of the libraries don't have, I found some amazing books ranging from vintage to current and present day. Very relaxing to browse new books and a good way to find books to read is with their recommendations. There are also book cubs you can join to get into reading, if you have meant to. read more

I applied to volunteer here and ended up pretty disappointed. I gave several current, positive references and have loads of applicable experience. Went down to the library for an interview, everything seemed great and I was told I could start after the holidays with several duties. The volunteer manager strung me along for a month with various delays and then ceased communicating. Never explained what was wrong or gave me any duties as discussed. I would have much rather not been called in for an interview at all if they don't in fact want volunteers. read more

Pros: This library is indeed cleaner than other public libraries I have been to before. There are some services offered in this library other public libraries do not offer, such as patrons having the opportunity to do free printing of up to ten pages per day that. Most of the staff seems friendly, especially the ones on the first floor near the entrance to the library. Cons: The Lake Oswego Public Library is not an ideal place for parents who have kids. If parents want to take children to the children's section and try to do computer work while children doing artwork or reading a book, parents are out of luck. If you are thinking of bringing your own computer and trying to work on it on the ground floor where the kids' section is, you unable because the internet on the ground floor does not work well. To top it off, Lake Oswego Public Library does not have computers that are Internet accessible on the ground floor. So, parents who need to do schoolwork or computer work in the library will face a barrier. read more

They're number 1, they're number 1! No really, they are.... ranked first in the state for the past FIVE years. And Oregon as a state is ranked third in the nation. Not too shabby. I've been curious to see what all the fuss is about and was surprised that the library isn't the fanciest around. After all, in the past couple years, Tualatin and Wilsonville built new libraries and West Linn's looks like a swanky mountain lodge. But, in Lake O, it is quality over flash. Incredibly warm and welcoming staff. The place is so popular on weekends, it is hard to find a parking spot. Huzzah! read more

Great space to study as a law student when I don't want to be around other law students

I've been coming to this library for 10 years and I've never been disappointed. In fact, the upgrades they've made in the past several years have really made their legendary service go far and beyond. Conveniently located in a very nice suburb, this is the library I walk to after a day's hard work to check out some awesome holds. With the latest in library technology, I'm able to return books and other goods with ease. Not only that, but with three self-checkout machines, I no longer have to be concerned about waiting in line! The library itself is big, beautifully decorated, and all of its content is well categorized by genre, author, and by demographic. The staff there is very friendly and helpful, and will assist if you have any needs or concerns regarding library content. I really owe it to this library that is really helped me become a more an avid reader, I hope many more will be able to say the same thing. read more

The commemorative plaque says 1983 and is that ever true to form. The Lake Oswego Public Library, probably one of the more important ones in the Clackamas County library system, sits slightly north of this smaller, genteel city's civic center area. What's weird is that you actually traverse a few blocks of a residential area before you arrive at the library. It occupies a 2 story building that is very representative of its vintage and typology but its time stamped styling also makes it woodsy and homey. Truth be told, it approximates the Wilsonville Library in square footage, as I was told, so I'm not sure which one holds the real record, as if that's even important. There is everything one might need: circulation is found on the first floor, reference appears to be available on both floors, endless stacks, reference items and resources found only at this system library, all sorts of classes and special interest/community meetings, and there is a large parking lot. It has quite a few windows affording views out onto the tree studded surroundings. In fact, the length of the roof is defined by serrated skylights that bring a lot of light into the interior, which even has a small, narrow atrium that looks down from floor 2 to floor 1. One cannot complain about the service at the Lake Oswego Library. It is very courteous yet thankfully informal, as I was able to deduce from seeking assistance on both floors, thus sort of on par with the caliber of Wilsonville's service. At any rate, the Lake Oswego Public Library is a nice library and one I'd happily return to. After all, I have to polish my "pedantic" skills and sustain my "Ronald Mcf***ingDonald" modus operandi. As I pulled out, drove toward A Street, and headed west toward the commercial zone and I-5, I thought I was motoring through Greenwich, Connecticut, except that the deciduous trees were evergreens. Lake O is sort of that way. But would you have it another other way? What other neighborhood or municipality in the metro area would we be picking on for being an antidote to Hawthorne? read more

The LO library is quaint and modest, but it's the cleanest, quietest, and most fully "stocked" library out of the many I've been to in Oregon. New releases that are usually not available at other county libraries can usually be found here and I have never had a problem with holding books and having it come back on time. there are several tables upstairs to study by the windows and computers as well. The only downside to this library is the study spaces. There are numerous large tables but it would be nice if they had more of the single space desks for students and those of us who want a bit more private space to sit. The workers here are so incredibly kind and helpful as well! read more

I LOVE this place! I'm a sucker for small local libraries, and this one hits the spot. I'm pretty impressed by it. The library is 3 stories with kids in the basement, fiction on the main floor and nonfiction upstairs. The library has computers on every level and helpful staff located on every floor as well. The library is well stocked with books of all kinds as well as VHS and DVDs. Documentaries and other "nonfiction" DVDs are going to be located upstairs intermixed with their paperbound counterparts while all other films are on the main level and children's movies in the basement. If you can't find anything in the library, the staff will help you locate materials in one of the other libraries in the county and having it sent over so you can pick it up. They also have a great, easy to use website so that you can control your library account. This library may be on the small side, but it is well kept, bright and airy and a joy to be in. read more

Best DVD collection in Portland area at LO library- especially good for foreign films you can't find elsewhere, including Netflix. You can suggest films and they might end up ordering it for the collection. Extremely helpful and accommodating to researchers of academic/ journal articles. Will locate and email PDFs to you. My husband has saved hours of research locating journal articles of interest to him. read more

This is the star of the Clackamas County library system. They have a larger selection of books, movies, etc, than other SW-SE suburbs, plus extensive public records for when you want to research something. I love the County LINCC system, which allows you to place things on hold (it's like having Netflix for free). Be warned, parking can be a bear, with the library buried deep in the First Addition neighborhood, and an odd-shaped parking lot. read more

I highly recommend going online and using their system to reserve a book ahead of time. I used to like going through the library and finding it as part of the experience but with the increased crowds and not so great parking, going online is much easier. I can place a book on hold, park in the 5 minute spaces right out front and have my book in minutes. The lot has tiny spaces and is usually full. read more

L.O. library is a great place to find books, videos and music. They have a large selection of most media and a very helpful and savvy staff. The place is clean, comfortable, well-lit and safe. Sadly for the metro Portland area this is not as common a feature as it once was. I will not even brave going to the main library in 'Silly-town' anymore because of the filthy and increasingly aggressive vagrants that have taken over there; but I look forward to my visits to this fine example of community support and public monies well spent. I used to enjoy coming to the Lake Oswego library to browse the books I was interested in. However, since they installed new shelves and remodeled they decided to file all of the fiction books (both in the printed section and the cd/mp3 section) together regardless of genre and it has become very difficult to find the books that would be of interest me. sure, if I know the author - but the only way to discover new authors now is to plow through all of the books and I neither have time nor interest in developing a headache trying to look through the total stacks rather than a particular section. At least for now they still maintain the colored stickers that indicate the genre on the backs of the books, but that makes it only slightly easier - you still have to look through the entire collection of books. The last time I was there, there were papers on the shelves "if you are interested in xxxxx, try these authors" - and there it would list a handful. what a pathetic attempt to try to make the library more user-friendly - which it now is not! read more

The computers have been down on and off for 2 days, but it doesn't bother anyone because they all have a personal computer. If you bring it up to the staff, you get a confused, dewy-eyed, innocent doe expression in return. It's like you are confronting a brie-fed, hothouse Bambikins with strange details of how the lower class lives. Computers? Oh, but those are for OLD people and WEIRDOS. We don't have to acknowledge they are temperamental because our extremely wealthy patrons don't care. We are the 1%! As if in subconscious guilt, someone put out a sign of warning yesterday, indicating they knew the computers were down, but it was quickly whisked away. Yahoo is STILL the website here that after 5 years of my trying, is very hard to get into if you need it when the computers need a stress day. Don't mention it, you will be unduly harassing Tina Fey at reference if you do. The IT guy is not library-specific, he's city specific, and he emails, in his own good time, in his response to tech complaints. It's all a foreign galaxy to them. This happened just after two other things: first, I attended a library event that had salted caramel graham crackers, really a heavenly bonus to hanging at the library. And also, the library personnel returned a set of keys I lost in the library. I have lost 100 things here over the years, and 99 of the 100 have been returned. This almost makes up for the snobbism of the employees and the bizarre refusal to acknowledge the computer situation. I have to admit that I was on the path to sending LOPL back up to a 4 star based on the cookies and keys, but reality has kept us here at the 3. read more
