Multnomah Falls is really a wonderful place. Even though it's touristy and popular, it's very worth it. Don't just go for Multnomah Falls though, you've gotta see the Columbia River Gorge and all of the other waterfalls in this area. The whole area nearby is full of them. Wow!!! Such a beautiful place Oregon is full of gorgeous locations and this is one of the top on the list! If you are going to hike to the top come prepared water and good hiking shoes! The trail is very narrow and dangerous in some spots. The closer you get to the top it begins to get muddy so don't wear anything nice or it will be covered in mud. Sign said parking lot full so we were directed to another lot. Waited 30 minutes for bus. Took bus to falls. Only to find plenty of spaces in lot and by that time it was very crowded. And now riding bus back to lot. Not very efficient. Drivers were friendly and bus was clean so there's some positive. Falls were fine. read more

Went camping in cascade locks for the weekend with friends. I wanted them to see the falls, as I had been here before a few times. We tried going on Sunday and that was a no go you can't get into the parking lot going west so we had to get off at another exit to a park where it was 5$ for parking to wait for a shuttle to take us to the parking lot which we then found out we couldn't get on because the last shuttle wouldn't be able to take us all. We left of course and then got up really early Monday morning to get to the main parking lot which we had to go past the parking lot to get off exit 25 to turn around get back on the freeway and go to the parking lot at exit 31. We made it and it was as beautiful as always. I was sad to have found out when we got into town on sat that all the trails were closed due to the fire last year and that sadly included the trails to the bridge and the top of the falls. It is still breathtaking and even thought u can't hike to the top it's definitely worth going to see. read more

Coming here as a Portland native is hilarious. Watching all of these tourists go insane over a waterfall that we all just take for granted. But you know what? It is awesome. It's so much water. SO much water. It's a decent hike to the summit. If you've lived here all your life and never done it you definitely should, but maybe go at 7am to avoid the massive crowd. read more

For what it's worth, it was worth it even though we didn't get to hike all the way around the loop due to road blockage. We arrived and parking took awhile but entering to these falls had many other stops on the way! At the bottom is an information center, ticket center for the train, and a mini coffee shop with large cookies (the size of your head). The cookie was super hard and not anything special but we got it for the photo and how big it looked. The workers at the visitor center were friendly and helped answer all our questions. Lots of people here to take pictures, and to hike to see the overlook and do the loop trail has an entrance on the left of the bottom of the main waterfall. A lot of uphill to get to the top of the overlook, but doable! Not anything crazy and prepare to be wet the first few minutes of the hike since you'll be next to waterfall. Could get muddy so I suggest sturdy shoes. Unfortunately reached the road blockage after passing the overlook turn a bit. But got many awesome photos and got a quick small leg and booty workout on the way up. Would probably return and try other hikes in the area, but first timers should definitely come and check it out :) read more

Multnomah falls is beautiful as always. A must see if you are in the area. Hiking trails and a restaurant as well as a hot dog stand and gift shop make this a great destination. If you want to access even more great hiking trails and waterfalls get off the freeway and drive the old highway. Even if you don't stop you can see a lot of great scenery and falls. The falls were so beautiful! There was hiking available for every skill level, even my toddler could enjoy herself. They were super busy, but that's expected at any waterfall. There is an attached restaurant with bathrooms, and a snack food area too. We got some nachos before and they were legit! read more

Driving there was kind of tricky.. you ride the freeway and parking is in the MIDDLE of it. I would keep my eyes on the road when you approach the fall because there are signs that guide you. The navigation was quite confusing, but my biggest tip would be for you to be on the left side of the free way when approaching from either side. We missed when initially going that we had to drive another 5 miles or so to come back and try again. I noticed that parking was hard to find, but people leave quickly so you'll eventually find parking. We got lucky and found one RIGHT away. It was very easy to get to the fall once we parked. You go under the road bridge and climb couple steps, walk a few, and you've arrived. It's nicely paved, so it's NOT a hike. Unfortunately the entrance to the top bridge was closed down, but the view at the bottom was still breathtaking! We pretty much snapped couple pictures, went to the gift shop, and left - total duration 30 mins. read more

This is a beautiful place to visit. On the day we stopped we were notified early per road signs that there was no parking available at Multnomah falls. No problem for us, we stopped and parked at the falls just prior to Multnomah and walked approximately 1/2 mile to get there. The path was a little rough but should be an easy hike for most people. When you arrive there are snack and drinks for purchase, a decent gift shop and restrooms. You can choose to ascend 0.2 miles up to the first bridge and/or 0.5 up to the top. I have been told this is the tallest falls in the area. Not sure if that is true but it is absolutely lovely here!!! read more

So very beautiful and just right off the freeway! This was my first time here and It was just spectacular. It's just a quick walk under the freeway and you are at the base f of the falls! There are also very clean restrooms here as well. I was told most of the trails are closed due to a wildfire but they will hopefully reopen later this year. I would love to go back when it's warmer and hike around. Dogs are also allowed on leashes!! Wish I lived closer..... read more

Breathtaking, to be sure. I don't know that I've ever had such easy access to as much incredible natural beauty. Parking is easy, with a safe pedestrian tunnel to get you under the highway. There is a charming old structure that houses the park office, gift shop, a museum and a restaurant. Outside you'll find coffee options and walk up snacks. The path up to the observation areas is wide and easy to walk on, even in the ice cold weather of New Year's Day, which is when I visited. It sure gets crowded, and you'll wait your turn to take a selfie with the magnificent waterfall in the background, but it's worth it. And now a word of caution. Just because the trail is open, that doesn't mean it is safe. I couldn't believe the tourists I saw in sneakers, or heels, wearing very little protective gear, heading out on the trail to go up to the observation area above the falls. There is a mile of narrow switchbacks, most of which were covered in treacherous ice, the day I was there. I saw more than a couple of folks take hard falls, and when I warned someone who was headed up she said, "They wouldn't let us up here if it wasn't safe." The employees down at the bottom aren't your daddy. They were spreading salt on the paths around the lower observation decks, but listen up - once you get out on the real trail, you're in the wild and I don't care that you can still see the parking lot, you're no longer safe in the strong arms of modernity. Wear protective clothing, carry some snacks (hee-hee), have ice gear ready if it is winter, some cleats or a pointy hiking pole or something! And love it. This is why we live here, am I right? If you ask me what is the most beatiful place in Oregon that is close to PDX then my answer would be Multnomah Falls. It is simply breathtaking!! I do love this hike because it's a perfect amount of satisfying enough incline hiking exercise for me and my dog. Plus I usually go on hikes and travels alone so I'd rather go somewhere that is semi-crowded and not just empty since I feel a bit unsafe at times when I go to nice nature area and there's no one around. The waterfall was beautiful and overall felt great getting to the top. I just wish it was closer to me since it's an hour away but it's worth it once I finish the hike and I feel that it was a great exercise with beautiful views. read more

This place was a perfect morning hike with a great view of the water falls. I'm from California and it was great seeing leaves with different colors and lots of greenery. I went early morning on a weekday and there were very little people so it was not crowded. Towards the end of the hike there were more visitors and I can see how the narrow trails can get overflowing with traffic. The hike itself was very easy and you come across rivers and fallen tree trucks. Stuff I only see in movies or Smokey the Bear commercials. Lovely hike, free parking, and fresh air. When visiting Portland, Oregon, my family and I decided to take a trip to Multnomah Falls. The trip from Portland to the fall was about half an hour drive. The day we drove there, it was raining very hard, therefore the road was a bit slippery. When arriving to the spot, the road to access the parking lot was very narrow and the edges of the road were sketchy. You have to be very careful that you do not drive too fast because you can easily get into an accident. Did I also mention that it is all free, the parking lot and the view? An extra reason to go! The weather was tolerable the day my family and I went. It was cold, drizzling when arriving to the fall, but the view of the fall was breathtaking. There are two bridges when viewing the waterfall; one is at the bottom, where usually everyone stands to have a clear view of the fall and take pictures. There is a small hill that you have to climb up to get to the second bridge that is higher, takes around 3-5 minutes, depending on your speed. When arriving to the second part of the bridge, make sure you have a coat if you do not want to get your clothes a bit damp. Usually with the wind, the water that is departing downwards, will go straight towards individuals on the bridge, nevertheless the view from the second bridge will be mesmerizing. There is a pathway you can take to go up the hill to reach the top of the fall. My family and I decided to go for it, halfway I became a bit dizzy, it might have been due the elevation and the fact that I was running a little out of breath. My mother began to get scared of the height so she and I decided to head back down. Although there is a lot of people who climb up the hill, it was not made for me to handle that day. A family friend that was with us decided to head towards the top. He later on told us that he was not able to make it all the way because he felt that he was running out of breath and assumed it must have been due to the altitude. Be careful going back down the hill because it is slippery; personally, make sure that if you decide to take the hike, you wear shoes other than boots, or sandals. There are bathrooms available for the public. There is also a gift shop and coffee spot right next to the fall where you can go into and relax. Unfortunately, the day I went it was closed; therefore, I was not able to go in, I only saw what was inside from the outside view. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous and the fall is jaw dropping, something that you do not see every day. It is a must see if visiting Portland! read more

Best bang for your buck in regards to how much time you spend to get to see a beautis view like this. To view the overall waterfall is a quick walk up the stairs and that view is just beautiful in itself. If you want to get closer and actually get on top of the fall, you have to hike about 1.5 miles which is not that bad at all to get to the top. There will be a fork and most people turn right to go there. You can play in the creek which is shallow but soooo cold. It will literally lock you but you worked it so might as well play right? We played there for less than an hour and did a cute ol photo shoot. The other cool part is that at that fork, you can turn left and hike .5 miles or so to get under another waterfall. It is the path less traveled but it is TOTALLY worth it. Once you see the fall, you have to get off the path and maneuver your way toward the water but it is quite thrilling. That water is even more freezing and my friend could barely breathe so just be careful. You get to see all these goodies within such a short hike. I recommend sunblock, hat, sunglasses, sneakers, and towels. No one really goes into the water so you dont need to wear a bathing suit. read more

Great place to visit and hike. Not so great to visit on a holiday. The parking is terrible. Which is understandable. We just happened to visit on a Memorial Day. That was the only downside. Everything else was a great nature experience even with all the other tourists there. It didn't feel too overcrowded for me as people tend to take pics and move on. Just be patient and you will get that perfect waterfall pics you wanted. And don't forget that it's not the only waterfall on the area there are many to see and visit. read more

There's just nothing like it. Even as someone from this area, the novelty factor doesn't wear off. It's where I take any out of towner visitors, because multnomah has a unique beauty. I've never been to the cafe. I've never been to the top. I've wandered the trail a bit and driven by more times than I care to count. Besides the food scene in Portland, I wanted to visit Multnomah Falls while in Oregon and pictures don't do it justice. I fell in love with this place instantly. Driving from a distance I saw the beautiful falls and was so excited to see it upclose. I was kind of surprised of how many people were there on Christmas day but it wasn't overwhelming. From the ground level, to the middle bridge, and to the highest point, if you are into views and pictures, this is an awesome place. Don't be weary if you think it's a bit of a hike, the trail is paved so that you can even bring up children and strollers. But let me warn you, once you pass the bridge, the trail can get a little challenging especially if you don't have the right pair of shoes or are prepared to go up hill. Other than that I think it's perfect place to hangout and be adventurous. Before reaching the top of the falls, you can also play on the water and rocks, but do be careful. Overall a great experience while visiting this place. A great place for locals and tourists. read more

A definite must see in Portland! The waterfall is absolutely stunning and the one mile hike to the top of the waterfall is fairly strenuous, mainly due to the incline, but is worth it to see the view of the mountains and rivers from the top. Favorite part of the trip! Insider tip: take the 84 directly when going there and take the scenic route back (instead of vice versa). If you take the scenic route there you'll be stuck in traffic along with the hundred of other people who had the same idea. Also when you take the 84 directly to multnomah falls the exit takes you directly to a parking area that is not accessible when coming from the scenic route. Fair warning though, the 1.3 mile hike to the top of the falls is not easy if you don't hike often. I was breathing like a fat kid at the 4/11 mark. read more
