My review is based off my experience as a whole. While I wish I could give a better rating, the front desk person named Joshua is really off putting and not very efficient at his job. He does not respond to emails or texts, and he gives off an aura of "I'm too busy" or doesn't care. Not sure who at this office decided that the front desk folks should really push customers to book 2X a week, but it's really annoying. I've never gone to a PT office that does this and I've been to many in my lifetime. I'm a single mom in debt on a very limited budget and I've had to explain my situation MULTIPLE times with Joshua and it's like he didn't even pay attention. Jeewa should be the one there in person versus Joshua as he's much nicer and professional acting. I've only worked with one of the PTs which was Dr.Ashley Chan. She's wonderful and was a pleasure to work with. No complaints there. The facility itself is pretty big and well stocked with machines and items. Unfortunately not worth the drive to keep going here, really hated the pressure to have to make 2 appts a week, and this office doesn't bill you which is bizarre. read more

2 years later and I am still suffering the consequences of a surgical frozen shoulder from a horribly malicious PT Leo who is unqualified to treat surgical rehab. Do not go! I will probably never be fine after what he did from all the scar tissue and not stretching the shoulder. WORST experience in Portland for PT, I complained to the PT Board, but they don't write back or answer the phone. (covid permensant closures). Know that you will not be treated with skilled care. You are a # and a paycheck. You will be mad at yourself if you don't heed my warning. I have been in continuous PT with other providers who specialize in rehab currently! I am very grateful that Brandy helped me strengthen my leg after I got PRP injections for chronic knee pain. She helped me make slow and steady progress, rather than pushing too hard and then relapsing. She designed a manageable succession of exercises, adding or modifying one or two new exercises at each PT visit, and subtracting something else, so I kept making progress without getting overwhelmed by too many exercises. She offered an excellent combination of encouragement and patience. I recently completed a move to a new house, moving many boxes and stepping up and down many times, without any complaints from the knee. That would not have happened without Brandy's help. read more

Physical Issue: Surgery to repair left rotator and bicep tears. Therapist Brandy at Rose City PT made my recovery regime really enjoyable. Here's why I give her and Rose City 5 stars: RESPONSIVE: Brandy always addressed areas of my shoulder that were problematic since my last visit; KNOWLEDGEABLE: Brandy answered all my questions, giving me confidence in her knowledge base. And she answered ALL my questions with humanity, generosity, and detail; CONVERSATIONAL: Brandy hit the sweet spot in being an active and inserting conversationalist, yet not asking invasive questions nor oversharing on her part. I always look forward to my PT appointment because she was so interesting and was a always a good listener; ENGAGED: While she was treating me, her attention was on me -- her eyes did not wander around the room, nor did she carry on conversations with other therapist. She actually attended the meeting with the health insurance adjuster too explain why just a little more treatment was necessary; she didn't rely on the forms to relay this to the carrier. STERN: Only when she needed to be -- like to admonish me for not overdoing the activity to my arm. ROSE CITY STAFF: Another 5 stars to the staff -- front desk, and the other PT's as I observe their interactions with their patients. The one substitute that I had was equally enjoyable to spend my hour with. I liked that Rose City PT did not seek to over treat by immediately scheduling 3 visits per week for 3 months, 2x/week for 3 months, 1/x week for 3 months -- a sure sign of a clinic that does over treat. I am a retired critical care nurse. I know a lot about infection, and I know a lot about infection control. Went to physical therapy at Rose City today and was very impressed with all of their precautions. They were excellent. I don't see how they could've done a better job of organizing things and planning for things and keeping their patients safe and their staff safe. They are also excellent physical therapists, and the environment of their one huge treatment area is beautiful: top floor of a building with almost floor to ceiling windows across long wall, airy, spacious and plenty of room for max. social distancing, and a sense of privacy. I have a horrible low back and really hurt it doing something really stupid earlier this year. I couldn't walk, sleep, or sit without debilitating pain. I was miserable. Muscle relaxers and painkillers barely took the edge off. A friend recommended I try her husband's physical therapist, Sasha Kolbeck. Luckily Sasha took my insurance and was able to fit me in pretty quickly! Having never been to a physical therapy office before, I was very impressed. It's clean and well-organized, but the best part (as it should be) are the people. I've been a patient for about 6 months and my back hadn't felt this good in years! OK, who loves physical therapy? Raise those hands higher! There aren't many people that jump up and down with joy when they're prescribed PT, but it is instrumental in getting well after surgery or injury. Due to work, a car accident, and my own clumsiness I have landed in at least 5 different PT practices. Without a doubt this one has been the best. I have spent most of my time with Ariel who is extremely skilled, intuitive, and kind. She has treated a torn rotator cuff previously, and tendon and ligament tears in my elbow this go-round. I have worked with a few of the other therapists when Ariel hasn't been available. Each is top-notch in training, professionalism, and caring. They work together as team. Since the space is open I have seen and interacted with all of them. I can honestly say they are all very patient and committed to helping people recover. Everyone seems genuinely happy to be there and really listens. This office oozes healing juju. The patient coordinators go the extra mile dealing with insurance and scheduling. The space is open with plenty of natural light thanks to skylights and ample windows. While those things won't help you heal faster, it will make your time here more pleasant. If you should find yourself in need of rehabilitation do yourself a favor and get in touch with these fine folks. read more

As I am getting older I've had a few injuries requiring surgery and physical therapy. I have never before encountered an office of genuinely caring and wonderful people with so much expertise. Everyone is very personable, very kind and diligent about finding the right therapy for you and they are also concerned with your totally well being. I have seen several therapist there and I have received quality care from each of them. From the moment you step off the elevator you are greeted with a warm smile. I initially visited Rose City PT for help with with an old shoulder injury that flared up again late in the fall. My PT Megan did a great job helping me understand why I was in pain and gave me a clear roadmap to getting back to health and being able to do the things I love. Each visit was productive and by following her instructions I made steady progress and fully recovered. One thing that really stood out was that she always took the time to answer all of my questions (which were a lot) and never had to rush away to see another patient. This was really important to me because I wanted to fully understand why I was injured and how to prevent it from happening again in the future. Lastly, the facility was always clean and had plenty of space. So to sum up: I got the desired outcome, service was great and the facility was great. I've been seeing Megan for lack of mobility and numbness in my wrist (dominant hand), and she's great! The clinic staff are friendly and helpful (they remembered who I was after the first visit!), the space is big and open, but without feeling like other patients are too close (though if you were concerned about privacy / embarrassed about your injury, it might be tough), and they have a nice balance of post-op rehabilitation + sports recovery. Would definitely recommend the clinic and Megan. UPDATE 1/2/2018 I finished my treatment course at Rose City PT on Nov 8 2017 and have had 2 months without sessions. I went in hoping to get a little more flexibility and stretching techniques, and left with what appears to be a stable, life-changing improvement. I couldn't open a jar or twist a doorknob when I started, and now not only is neither a problem, but my daily pain/discomfort level has dropped from constant ache to basically nothing. I have a battery of strengthening exercises and stretches I can use when my wrist acts up. The folks at Rose City work with your specific situation to find a long-term solution that really works. While the injuries in my wrist will never heal, I feel like I've gotten to where they don't slow me down - you can't get a better treatment than that. I have been to Rose City PT for a major injury (hamstring tear) and also a minor nerve impingement. Both times I feel that I have received the very best care and have always left the office feeling better than upon arrival. Over the past few years I have torn my labrum and ACL (as well as a few minor injuries). Leo, Sasha, and Karl have all been wonderful in providing me with the scaffolding for full rehabilitation in both strength and flexibility. The best possible physical therapy experience I could've asked for. I visited them off/on for a year pre and post-op for a labral tear result of dislocation of the shoulder. Karl is known all of the country for his PT programs and trains his staff incredibly well. They make you work hard, but it pay off in the end. I'm back to full strength after seeing Karl and Leo for rehabilitation. Both therapists were a pleasure to work with; focused and very knowledgeable, but made it fun and entertaining. And everyone I met in the clinic was upbeat and happy-- such a necessity when your injury can give you the blues. Karl Kolbeck and staff are the best p.t. crew in Portland. I'm a cyclist, mountain scrambler, and sometime runner and I had a lot of knee problems in the past. As a physical therapist myself, I was interested in finding a PT who specialized in shoulder injuries to help me with a nagging shoulder problem that had been resistant to the typical stretches and rehabilitation protocols. Karl Kolbeck PT certainly is an orthopedic specialist who not only treats all conditions of the shoulder, but has been a national lecturer on the topic to other healthcare professionals. I was impressed by how thorough his examination was, but also him 'listening' to my story rather than rushing to treatment. He critically reasoned through the nature of my pain, what had been helpful in the past and what currently seems to aggravate the condition. I appreciated his honesty as well as helping to find a solution whether that be through rehabilitation or eventually further imaging or surgical consultation. Things are feeling much better now and I know how to manage it from here. I will say while I was working with Karl I noticed what a beautiful clinic space Rose City PT is as well as a friendly staff both in the front office as well as back in the treatment area.
