    Nice art work

We went on a Sunday afternoon. As a family of four , good service, good food and a nice atmosphere with Ethiopian art. The beets, lentil, beef and lamb were really good . The tea needed a little more spice and the enjera was very limited. But by far the best Ethiopian food in the Boston area

Had a great time. Was my first trip to Mulu and will certainly be back. The combo for two was great and allowed us to try a bit of almost everything

    Tiny Sambusa for $5

Husband and I had dinner here a few weeks back. Overall it was a good experience. I must add, the food is pricey in comparison to other Ethiopian restaurants in the area. We shared the Vegetarian Sambusa, which was delicious. The filing was tasty and the crust was nice and crispy. The price was ridiculous though, $5 for 1 sambusa. When I ordered, I had assumed it would come with 2 pieces. But all we got was a small sambusa. Totally not worth it. We also ordered - Ayeb- be-gomen- home made cottage cheese mixed with finely chopped collard greens, herbs, and spices. It was good, you will enjoy it if you like the slight bitterness from the collard greens. For Main, we got the Doto Wot Chicken and I think Ethiopian Combo. It came with a good selection of veggies, lentils and meat dishes. One of the meat dishes we chose -Ye Bere Qey Wot (Spicy) Cubed-beef cooked with onions, olive oil and hot berbere spice. It was tender, delicious and a must order. All the veggies were great too. Loved eating every single one of them. The food was a little oily specially the Doro Wot. Our injera was soaked in the oil and was not pleasant to eat at all. But the flavor of Doro Wot was AMAZING. The chicken was well cooked and was quite tender. The flavor was on point and was perfectly spiced for our taste. Loved the thick gravy with some amazing flavor from the berbere seasoning. Having said that, the meal would have been better if the lentils were cooked through. Unfortunately all the lentil dishes were still a little raw. Now I don't think this is a cultural practice as we have always eaten fully cooked lentils at other Ethiopian restaurants, so this place really needs to make sure the lentils they serve is full cooked. The restroom was very clean and smelled good too. Overall a 3.5 star meal.

The place is nice and welcoming. The appetizers lake some spices. All the lentil/peas group have same taste and texture. The lamb dish in tomato sauce was great. The one cooked on onion not that good. Oh. And they don't have rice in their diet. It seems. The coffee was the best thing in this visit. Would I go again. No. Now I can say I had Ethiopian food.

    Veggie Vegetarian Combo Special

My whole family loves Ethiopian food. We've been going to a place in Jamaica Plain for years but around the pandemic time they seemed to have Americanized the food- the injera no longer had the hallmark sour taste and the food itself lacked spice. But my 90 year old parents really wanted some good Ethiopian so tonight we took them here; we live in Roslindale ( right next to JP) and they live in Newton so it was quite a trip. But worth it! The best Ethiopian I've had in Boston. It's in a strip mall so not scenic but very easy parking. Didn't love that two TVs were on the whole time. But still all worth it for the food- sour and plentiful injera and flavorful other food. My husband and I are vegetarians and had the veggie combo except we swapped out one dish that had beets in it. I especially loved the Misr Wat. My parents had meat and veggies and loved theirs - I haven't seen my father eat so much since he had a stroke 3 years ago and my mom kept saying she didn't want her meal to end. We will be back! I only wish that they were in Roslindale or Waltham - two areas that would really benefit from good Ethiopian!

Food is four stars. Service is two. We came in on a Saturday night. We waited by the door to be seated. After some time, one of the two waitresses came to help us. We told her we were fine waiting for a table which we did. We were finally seated and it took a very, very long time for someone come to our table. It was painfully clear we weren't regulars (who were getting very timely service even when seated after us). Both waitresses were unfriendly and not helpful. We were not given a drink menu though clearly they serve alcohol. We ordered water and were given tap water. Completely fine. However, the rest of the restaurant patrons were being given bottled water. Interesting. They have combination plates for two that include vegetable and meat dishes. They do not have vegetarian combos for two according to our waitress and we had to order two vegetarian combos which totaled more than the mixed combo for two. Fine. After about thirty minutes our order came out and it was one vegetarian combo. The portions were fairly small. Baggage was almost non existent. Flavor was good though. Came with two pieces of injera. The injera under the food wasn't like the rest. It was cold, thin, and tasted old. We were never visited by a server again. Not to see if the food was good. Not to see if we need more injera. More water. Nothing. We waited another twenty minutes trying to get the bill. The restaurant was about half full, but other tables were being waited on multiples times during our visit and ours not once. Such terrible lack of service. Wish we had a better experience.

we stopped in here for a late friday lunch, had the place to ourselves. there's limited ethiopian restaurants that are open for lunch and this was one of them. the place is exceptionally clean. the dining area has about a dozen tables of varying sizes. the bar had about ten high stools. the place was brightly lit which i prefer. we ordered the combo for two. the platter came out about ten minutes after we ordered. that was pretty amazing. probably the fastest service time for an ethiopian plate i've experienced. the dishes were fresh, flavorful in their own way, and really hit the spot since we were craving ethiopian food. i really like the mix of pure veggie dishes vs dishes with veggies and meat. so i am a bit confused about the naming of the restaurant. on yelp it says ethiopian restaurant. on google maps and the restaurant window, it says mulu ethiopian restaurant. definitely returning here the next time i'm in the area and craving ethiopian. the restaurant is in a plaza with plenty of off street parking.

Service is slow but it seems to be common in Ethiopian restaurants. The vegetarian dishes was tasty and freshly made, but unfortunately, the beef and the chicken dishes were so tough and chewy. The coffee with cardamom was tasty and came with pop corn.

I highly recommend this restaurant. An Ethiopia born, Boston raised Ethiopian friend of mine brought me here and said it was the best Ethiopian spot in Boston. She told the truth. Everything about this place was phenomenal! They welcome people of all tribes, the food is mouthwatering and fresh and the service is quality. Love it.

We had two orders, which they were welcome to combine into 1 shared big plate as we planned to all share together. They were happy to accommodate a gluten-free meal for my friend (we believe most things on the menu are gluten free to begin with) which was great. They have a sink next to the restaurant counter for customers to wash their hands prior to using their hands to eat their entrees. As for the injera, it was a bit dry but they did have a decent amount of quantity for the price. Overall price and service for the restaurant was good for the food you get. Service was decently quick! As for the food, it was pretty flavorful. We all enjoyed all the veggie options, especially the lentils. The lamb really good and flavorful and I would return just for this! Again, my only gripe is that the injera is a bit dry. In addition, the sauces for the chicken vs beef tasted pretty similar so we wish they were differentiated a bit more. What we ordered: - 2 person Combo (except lamb) w/6 veggies (we chose Doro Wet (Chicken) and Siga Wet (Beef) - Yebeg Tibs (Lamb entree)

We usually get takeout and I'm always impressed by how well it is packed. We got the meat combo for 2 which includes 2 meat dishes, 6 veggie sides, and injera. Injera is the soft spongy "bread" that you eat the curries with. For the meat, we ordered the chicken dish, Doro Wet, twice and each order contains with one boiled egg and one chicken drumstick. For the 6 veggie sides, we ordered all the six listed on their menu - the collard greens, mix veggies, different types of lentils. I wanted to sub one of the veggie sides with the cottage cheese appetizer but they said they couldn't do that - boo. The food was ready quickly about 15 mins or so. The portion sizes were great. And wow, the food was tasty. The injera was perfect, not too sour which is something I always think about before getting Ethiopian food. If it's too sour it can overpower the curries but it should have a slight hint of tanginess to be tasty. The Doro Wet was spicy and having the 6 veggie sides helped with balancing it out. We enjoyed our meal, especially the injera on the bottom that gets soaked in all the juices - yummy!

I love it because it actually is like a cafe, just with a full service menu. There were people doing work or having a quiet meal to themselves. (I went on the evening of Marathon Monday). Just be prepared that the cuisine is eaten with fresh flat bread not with utensils so wash your hands and get ready for a delicious experience. Note you order at counter, but the service was quick and friendly. Also try the traditional Ethiopian coffee. The presentation is amazing and it is a deep flavorful coffee. My niece recommends the peanut tea - she said it taste like like drinking a yummy peanut butter smoothie.

I can see why the whole restaurant is named after this dish. It was warm, homey, and delicious. The perfect way to start the meal. When the paella arrived, it was every bit as delicious as I remembered. The orzo was perfectly cooked and balanced beautifully with green peas, cauliflower, ginger, and a mix of other flavors that just worked. The soy sausage was especially flavorful. My partner ordered the Shepherd's Pie, made with layers of Yukon gold and sweet potatoes and a delicious balsamic vinegar and pesto sauce. I also had the Green Monster juice, which was refreshing, and managed to taste both healthy and delicious. As a committed carnivore who still appreciates great vegetarian and vegan food, I must say Red Lentil has earned a spot on my regular rotation. This isn't just great vegan food, it's great food, period.
