After trying to wear insoles in my boots and swallowing Advil tablets to little effect, I made an appointment with Allegheny Podiatry Foot & Ankle. Once some x-rays were taken, Dr. Stan Bosta -- an extremely amicable, engaging, gentle, and warm fellow-- diagnosed me with arthritis in my feet as well as some foot fungus. He then wrote me a prescription for a medication to take away the pain and swelling, gave me samples of an antibiotic cream for the rash, and directed me to a nearby shoe store named Gordon's for some custom, premium orthotics with a coupon good for a 10% discount on my purchase. Before I left, Dr. Bosta even shaved a nasty, craggy callous off of my left hallux that had been nagging me for months, painlessly using a scalpel as if he were a sous chef casually peeling a potato.
