Odi’s Kingburger - King Cheeseburger

Odi’s Kingburger

I would give 3.5 stars, but rounding up…read more Odi's Kingburger Drive-In is off Highway 60 in Renfrew and has been around since 1973. I had been wanting to try Kingburger for years, but every time we were in the area, we were always just passing by and had to get to where we were going on a specific schedule. This past weekend we had some time and stopped on the way home. My husband and I each got a King Cheeseburger and split a large poutine. The King Burger has two beef patties, triple bun, Kingburger sauce, and fried onions. The cheeseburger just adds cheese. The patties were real, homemade beef patties. They weren't too thick or dense and were juicy. The cheese was real cheese slices and not Kraft singles. The fried onions were good, not too many and not overwhelming. The Kingburger sauce seemed mostly like a mix of ketchup and mustard and there was far too much for me - I would've liked to taste the beef more because it was really great! I was also hoping to give more burger to our little kiddo without the sauce or just minimal. The buns were nothing special, but were fresh, soft, and helped soak up the sauce. In fairness, I like light sauce, whereas my husband likes everything super saucy and he really enjoyed it. All in all, it's definitely a good burger and I might try the Super Burger next time, which also comes with back bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and subs fried onions for raw. The poutine, unfortunately, did not the have cheese curds I was craving, but the gravy was very tasty and the fries were so perfectly crispy. As a big cheese lover, dare I say that I might just order fries and gravy next time. The portion was pretty big, too. Super affordable, weekday specials, and fast and friendly service. Love a small, local, family-owned restaurant that's been around for ages. There's a patio to the side and parking, but no indoor seating and truly a drive-thru with a drive-in theatre restaurant vibe. I'll need to try one of their many milkshakes next time. They also have a "cruise night" with classic cars, which would be awesome to check out.

The burgers are amazing, milkshakes are a tad filling though. Got a kids small cotton candy milkshake, didn't finish it. Although I put the milkshake in my freezer and had cotton candy ice cream. It slaps. Service is pretty awesome. Every time I see odi himself he's always smiling. The now sign is pretty nice and they actually show the cup sizes now and nice awards, ambiance nice. They have tables and seating outside, but try and grab some shade if it's a hot day! It can be very busy on weekends, especially in the summer. That includes traffic on the road so be careful crossing the road if you have to. You can park on both sides of the road. I haven't tried their other food but I will. I have heard good things about their poutines and shawarmas. They take Apple Pay, etc. Note that it is no longer called Sue Ellen. They've retired.

The diner has been under new management since 2021 but it has had some difficulty getting off the ground, mainly due to COVID (staffing issues). We stopped by today and it was busy, as usual. They offer the same food as Sue-Ellen's did: burgers, hot dogs, French fries, poutine, etc.. The new owners have also added donairs and shawarma to the menu. We usually get a large poutine to share and one Pogo each. We waited for a fair bit of time for our food today. We were pretty disappointed... The Pogo was burned and our poutine was mediocre. Sue-Ellen's used to have the best gravy and now it's just flavourless. There wasn't much cheese curds in the poutine either...Maybe next time we will try something different and hope for t

Funny story, my brother loves A&W and used to work near this location before it opened up. He lamented how he wished there was an A&W near his work so he could go there for lunch. Shortly after he stopped working there, they opened up this A&W, haha. It's a relatively new location. I think it opened in 2021 or 2022. I've been to this location a few times. It's around the corner from a Winners (my favourite place to shop) and my husband has been known to go in and grab a Buddy Burger or two while he's waiting for me to finish shopping, lol. Their food is consistent, the space is clean, and staff are friendly. They recently launched their Brew Bar at this location, so now they also sell Root Beer slushies, fruit smoothies, creamy shakes, frozen lemonade, cold brews and lattes. We were there during this launch. They had a DJ playing tunes, the place was decorated with balloons and they had a spin the wheel game set up out front to win A&W merchandise. I won a bottle opener and my husband won a frisbee. We also got coupons to try a free small drink from the Brew Bar. I got the Strawberry Smoothie and my husband got the Acai Mixed Berries Smoothie. The regular price is $3.99 each. The smoothies are made by this automated machine. It's fun to watch. The smoothies were good, but a bit too sweet for my liking. They are made with real fruit puree, but I'm certain there's added sugar. The Mixed Berries one had a bit of an artificial aftertaste, which the Strawberry one didn't have. I feel that this location is more for people who live or work nearby or tourists or if you're already in the area doing something else. There's no parking. Street parking is hard to come by and not all that close. It is right by Parliament Station though, so easily accessible by public transit. This location is open 24/7.
