Nice little market with a terrific selection of drinks and snacks. I stopped in to get ice and didn't see any, but the cashier said they did have it and filled a couple of medium-sized bags for me at a very reasonable price. He said if I bought $20 of liquor, they would provide free ice to keep it cool. I'm not a drinker, but that sounds like a good deal! The cashier was super chill and very friendly. I just had another wonderful experience at Murphy Canyon Market! I have a fractured wrist and was wearing a cast, and the staff went out of their way to be extra helpful and considerate--it really meant a lot. They also reminded me that if you bring your cooler, you get free ice, which is such a nice touch. The customer service here is consistently kind and attentive, the prices are fair, and I'll definitely continue to give them my business. I went in here Wednesday evening to get beer and water for a backyard barbecue and the place was empty. The clerk was standing behind the counter staring intently at and listening to a video playing on his phone. He didn't acknowledge me as a I came in, which was fine. But then he didn't acknowledge me when I put my items on the counter in front of the register. He just remained riveted to his video. After an uncomfortable silence of about 20 seconds, I said, "Could I please get a plastic bag?" to break the ice. He sprang into action, putting down his phone and, incredibly, beginning to sing something I didn't recognize. He then called me "buddy" repeatedly. Give me a break. I'm not going back. I love this place. It is a small liquor and convenience store right off Clairemont Mesa Blvd. They do not sell only liquor, after all it is a convenience store that sells bags of ice at a super reasonable cost. Lottery tickets are sold here. Essentials including milk and snacks. If you buying liquor here, the pricing is decent. And offers a good selection of beers and alcohol. The place has its regular customers who add character to this place. Along with Willie. He greets you like you are one of his best friends. One time I accidentally dropped a $20 bill on the floor. And didn't even know it. Later Willie found it on the floor, and reviewed his security footage to see who dropped it. When he realized it was me, he went out of his way to flag me down on another day to get my $20 back to me! THATS A ROCKSTAR! I am a fan fo sho! On another occasion, Wilie asked me what my name was and now calls me by name. Stellar service. He does this for other customers. Take the time to stop by and say HI. I hate to write a bad review for a locally owned business, but I live in the area and decided to stop by for the first time today to pick up a pack of White Claws since I was already next door and it cost me $28 for a 12 pack. It didnt hit me until I got in my car how much I just paid for a freaking 12 pack of White Claws! The guy working there was cool and the place can be convenient off the 15, but with these type of prices there is no way I will be back. The 7-11, Target, and the other liquor store by Carls Jr all sell a 12 pack for 17.99 and are even more convenient to get too. That is some insane markup... read more

Very cool neighborhood market down the street from where I work. It is much more than just a liquor store as this place seems to have everything wrapped up in a small little package. I often come down at lunch to grab a drink.....no, not THAT kind of drink and am always greeted warmly by the guy behind the register. I am not sure whether or not he is the owner but the guy has very good customer service skills and makes you feel as though you've been a lifelong customer. It's kind of like going to Cheers (dating myself) sans the bar. I will be returning as long as I'm in the area. read more

Yes, a local liquor store near one of my favorite pizza joints, Long Island Mike's. The selection of craft beers, let alone the prices of them aren't that great though. Compared to Vons, BevMo, etc, this place is around 25% more expensive. The store inside is a bit cramped and cluttery. Friendly staff though! If I'm getting pizza next door and I don't have booze at home, I'll stop by here. read more

I want to start off by saying I normally do not go to liquor stores... I normally head straight to BevMo... But, I really like this store, it's clean well organized and they have a good selection. I love that their beer is the coldest in San Diego! Don't believe me, go check it out for yourself. By the time I arrived home my beer was at the perfect temperature. Also, I love the owner Willie! Small liquor with a very friendly staff. They carry the usual liquor store items. Place pretty is tight but it is pretty well organized.

Work right across the street, amazing service!! I always walk out with a smile or at least a great laugh. They treat you like family. When I park my car on the street, it's almost every day that I'll hear a whistle coming from the liquor store and it's Willy yelling at me just to say good morning. I would definitely rate higher if I could. It doesn't have much of a selection, but the service alone makes up for it, and if you can't find something just ask and they will recommend something similar or better. They like to give customers deals, and I get yelled at when I get a bottle of water instead of getting the whole gallon ( because it's cheaper to do so) haha I love the place, and I will definitely be back on the daily haha read more

There are not enough words to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for Willie at Murphy Canyon Market. I stopped by there on my way home from work and left his store with my wallet still sitting on the counter. I'm blessed that a customer pointed it out to Willie. He then kept my wallet in his care. I live in La Mesa, when I arrived home I realized that I could not locate my wallet nor remember the name of the store. So I immediately drove back. Of course Willie had my wallet because that is the type of person that he is. This individual is the most sweetest, kindest, compassionate person that the world needs more of!! I hugged him like I hug I family and we spoke for a moment. After a stressful day at work, walking into this market is an extremely calming effect before my commute home. Great owner and staff. I am a disabled vet, and they go the extra mile to help out. They run out to my car and get whatever I need from inside. Good people, good liquor, they sell drinks chips etc. Cigars too. I recommend it, a nice local feel. read more

This liquor store is type that you go to when you just want to get domestic beer or a few bottles of generic fifths to get trashed off of because it's either right around the corner or you're picking up a pizza from next door, and your friend's from out of town can't wait an extra minute to just get anything warm in their bellies. I think they had some decent deals if you are planning for a beer pong tourney, but if you were hoping that this liquor store carried one of your 50+ favorite local craft brews or some exotic rums or gins then, this is not the place to go. The store is roughly 18' x 25', and when you walk through the door, a bell rings. There are about 5 or 6 aisles, all of which were wide enough for only 1 person to get through; if 2 tried to get through the same aisle some uncomfortable physical contact may be required. I was hoping to get my hands on some sours or geuze, or however you spell it, because some previous review mentioned something about cold beers and it being the right temperature by the time they got home, which gave the impression that the place carried belgiums or other beers of that sort, but craft beers at the least (none of which were the case). Now I know one of the previous reviewer just likes to drink slightly warm domestic beer :( Also, when I went in the store, there wasn't anyone there behind the cashier or in the store as a matter of fact; it was about 3pm. I spent about 5 minutes in the store, knowing exactly what wanted if they carried it (I was also open to other option had they carried anything the 'craft brew capitol' of the U.S. had to offer), but also made sure that I didn't overlook any hidden jewels in both the fridge and the liquor aisles, nothing caught my attention and they didn't seem to carry anything "special" as a liquor store (and yes, 5 minutes was more than enough to see everything they had in the fridge and the liquor aisle). Great place if you are just looking to get trashed off national domestics or to get a pack of cigarettes, but a terrible place if you're looking for craft/ foreign brews (especially considering there are at least 4 local breweries 5 minutes from the store). Felt kind of bad that I'm giving this place a low rating, but the store just didn't have an appeal, it kind of reminds me of a small Circle K without the gas station. Anyway, check it out if you're still curious, but I was down there last Monday and I couldn't stop thinking about how the previous reviewer misrepresented this place. Even if it were not for the previous reviews, I might have given this place 2 stars at best, had the guy that finally showed up behind the cash register as I was leaving not stare at me, as I was pulling out of their reserved parking spot, as if I were a customer from next door.
