The waiting area was small and dirty, stacks of random stuff on the floor and on top the mini fridge. It didn't even feel like a medical office, but like someone's messy house. Then a lady in full PPE came in to throw something away in the "lobby" trash can and whatever it was landed on the floor, but she didn't notice. It was at this point I decided if it didn't feel professional or sanitary in the waiting area, I didn't really want my small child having his first dental examination here. I asked the lady if we could cancel the appt, and she charged us $25. She asked why, and I told her it didn't feel clean. Her response was because they were renting the space. Then the lady in full PPE (yellow robe/mask) came back out and tried to get us to come back with her for the appt (I think she was confused and didn't know we were leaving). I don't know why she was in PPE in the waiting area or if she ever changed it, but it didn't seem normal. Overall it was just a very awkward and uncomfortable situation... I've never cancelled an appointment after showing up and I don't really like to leave negative reviews, but it if helps someone avoid feeling they way I did in the future, then it will be worth it.

From the thriving practice built up by Dr. David Tsunehiro, after his retirement and departure of Dr. Keith Uyehara, Cathy has systematically and single-handedly managed to have the entire staff including front office, billing, assistants, and hygienists all quit. I had been told directly from a longtime staff member that personality and conversation styles made working there intolerable. I found this out myself through personal experience after complaining of a very painful infected tooth, she referred me for a ROOT CANAL ON THE WRONG TOOTH! It's impossible to finish a statement without getting "butt-in" on and talked over. So it's no wonder that the wasn't able to know what my problem was. After suffering for 4 months as I never got the follow up I was promised/expecting (thank god I didn't become septic and die) as the infection progressed and eventually went into my jaw bone requiring extensive antibiotic treatment, only when it became unbearable and I just showed up at the office was I able to get the correct tooth treated. Since then, while trying to get caught up on my dental care (I have two half done implants needing restoration) I went in for two appointments where I was told "I didn't have any appointment that/those days". I found that hard to believe as I scheduled them in my iPhone calendar as the appointments were given to me. And now with no more dental appointments in my calendar, it's clear to me that they were correct and the mix up was hers, likely from again not listening or rambling on about Boston and her "school days" as she has a tendency to do (once taking up the entire hourlong appointment time before only glancing in my mouth for a minute because the doorbell rang signaling the arrival of the next patient. Still needing to get my implants restored, after getting by with missing teeth for over 4 years now, I called the office and suggested to Cathy that she get help in her office to which she coolly replied "yeah, so maybe you should get another dentist" before hanging up on me! I was stunned! I will get by and the quality of my dental care will undoubtedly go up. But I had not expected or ever encountered such unprofessionalism before! Rude is one thing. Not having people skills another. Not being a good dentist happens. But to have them all and then sinking a thriving dental practice by being unprofessional, not honoring appointments she herself gave me, and then leaving me with gaps in my teeth BY HANGING UP ON ME like a petulant adolescent goes beyond the pale and no one should ever subject themselves to this "practice"! Avoid Cathy Tsunehiro and "Kauai Lifestyles Dentistry" at all costs! No one could possibly need any of it!
