The quality of the work was good, and they ultimately got the job done as promised. However, communication could definitely be improved. Updates throughout the process were limited, and it would have been helpful to have more proactive communication regarding the status of the repair. Took two vintage mantle clocks to be repaired. One with a mainspring and the other with a pendulum. Neither had worked for years. I was greeted by owner and felt very leaving both clocks with him. I'm tempted to give this guy 5 stars, but if I'm being honest with myself, I just can't say it was a perfect experience. First of all, if you want a clear example of what to expect, just read the signage on the front door. It's funny, grumpy and to the point. It gives the impression that the owner doesn't much care for nonsense. Which is all fine. Nothing wrong with that. He's ultimately a cool guy. I asked him to repair my father's old Bulova Marine Star watch and get it running for me again. He told me to give him up to 6 weeks and quoted me a surprisingly modest price. He then called me 4 days later and told me the watch was ready for pickup. Awesome. All of this was perfectly satisfactory and above and beyond my expectations. He had a job. He did it. The results were great. Enough said. The ONLY thing that left me feeling a little unsatisfied was when I asked if he could generally "refurbish and restore" the watch. It had scratches, missing enamel, etc. To this request, he refused and said he couldn't do it. Which... okay fine. Fair enough. I then went home and "became an expert" on watch restoration. I managed to buff out most of the scratches, reapplied enamel, and shined it to a sparkle. It was actually a lot of fun and not very difficult. And, considering the watch belonged to my father, it was tremendously satisfying work. (good for me, I know) So what's my beef? I just think that I would have felt completely satisfied with the shop if that was also something they were ready and willing to do. It would just feel like a more complete service if that were the case. I understand WHY he doesn't offer that sort of service (he's focused on clock repair house calls), but still. I bought a watch repair kit thinking I could just do it on my own. But I've come to realize I am not at all a handyman, other than changing the oil in older model cars, and yard work. I gave up on trying to replace the batteries on my own and took them to this local shop. Upon entering I was greeted by the owner's old golden retriever. She is such a sweetie! The friendly owner came from his work area from the back and told me it'd take him about 30 minutes, which was how long it took me to unsuccessfully remove the battery casing from just one of my watches. I immediately said yes and was out the door. I returned a couple hours later (went to my damned gym) and everything was ready to go. Total cost was exactly $50 but it was worth it to me because I had waited literally years to replace these batteries. And he was kind enough to make sure all the times and dates on the watch were adjusted correctly, so one less thing for me to do. (Not all places have done this service for me.) It's nice to know I could support this local small business and it's a good business...! read more

We have two wind up pendulum clocks. One is a grandfather that sits on the floor in the living room and the other is on the wall in the kitchen. The grandfather clock is over 40 years old while the kitchen clock is around 20. We have had this shop clean our grandfather clock twice over the years and recently had the kitchen clock cleaned. The workmanship is great and the clocks are now working again. For the grandfather clock he came to the house taking the mechanism back to his shop to rebuild and then re-installed in the cabinet. For the kitchen clock we took it to his ship. We really missed the clocks while he had them to clean/repair and it took several weeks but the wait was worth it. We will take our clocks back in the future to this shop. We highly recommend the shop. read more
