Every shopping experience I've had at this Murphy's (and honestly, any Murphy's in general) has been a good experience. While the store is fairly small, it is very rarely crowded. It is located in a residential area and most of the people who shop here live a few blocks away. This isn't a large supermarket, so they don't carry every brand. However, it is a very nice little neighborhood market that has basically everything one might need for a meal. I admire that Murphy's works with the community to locally source many products (e.g. works with local fishermen and farmers, and with local businesses like Los Bagels and Brio). Nice that a neighborhood market is invested in well...the neighborhood. The grill and deli counter also serves up some tasty food. If you don't feel like cooking, they have quite a few hot food (e.g. burgers, hot dogs, rotisserie chicken, etc.) and cold cut options (e.g. sandwiches and wraps). I enjoy shopping here. read more

The bbq tri rip is NOT bbq it's made on a flat top inside! Do yourself a favor and get bbq somewhere that is better and does not lie!!!!!

I went to Murphy's specifically to buy smoked salmon. They had a very nice selection of packaged salmon by vendors in the northwest. The smoked tuna was delicious. A very pleasant storm in General with a great selection. read more

We ordered a Thanksgiving dinner for Murphy's and it was off the hook good. Food was hot and fresh and everything that we had was yummy! We had turkey stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, and yams. Totally recommend. read more

I am reluctant to write this review because I love Murphy's in Sunny Brae, where I've lived for 17 years with no complaints. On Sunday mornings, I look forward to travelling to the fairgrounds in Eureka to get Frankie's Bagels, then head back to Murphy's for lox right off an inviting big slab of smoked salmon. But not this Sunday. I went to the fish counter and saw just a wee bit of lox on the tray. I asked the clerk, "is that all you have?" The clerk says, "that's all that is not frozen." I thought, well, maybe you should have thought ahead and had unfrozen lox available on a Sunday morning. I took it anyway-- .14 lbs. Then I looked for the packaged line-caught lox to supplement the paltry amount of "fresh lox." No such luck. Murphy's had none. It only gets worse. I get home and prepare my family's "lox", bagels, and cream cheese sandwiches (I purchased Fish Bros smoked salmon to supplement the paltry amount of lox). But, Murphy's "fresh lox," the mere one-seventh of a pound at $34.00 a pound, was mainly hardened grizzle, just right for my dog but not suited for humans. read more

Hi. I want to start by saying excellent customer service every time I've been to this market and been a great experience with the exception of their ability to match tags with their actual Transaction price. This is not the first time I've bought something and it just doesn't match. something will be marked down and then their system will not match the ticketed value and this instance the tag said $3.69 and I was charged five dollars right not much of a loss and I don't think this is malicious. I just think it's mistake they need to correct. Last week it was lettuce it was marked down to 250 charge me six bucks. This can be avoided by catching it at the point of sale however, you know it's not always easy to remember that when you're having a Social interaction with you know social anxiety. read more

This Murphy's Market is the only one out of all locations that is most definitely not what it could be. The workers are always nice but typically seem to be unhappy to be there. This usually stems from bad management. I have had an issue a couple times with one worker there and have gone to management twice to no avail. Conrad Coehlo (The Manager) is unhappy, stressed and unfair. He is hard on his workers. If you are an employee there you will not be treated fairly, you are not going to be able to call in sick during a global pandemic without being made to feel awful so you just go anyways. Exposing workers and workers and customers to illness with no care at all. This Murphy's by far is the WORST location. read more

Westwood Murphy's is my absolute favorite local neighborhood grocery. Everyone is genuinely nice here, and it's really nice to see familiar faces whenever I come in. For me, it's the perfect size- I can find everything I need in a few minutes without getting lost (and stressed) in a sea of unneccessary choices. They do a very good job of balancing shelf space for essentials with fresh and interesting offerings, especially in the produce and drinks sections. Keitt mangos! Non dairy ice cream! local kombucha! Affordable protein options in single-meal portions! An ever-expanding deli with sides galore! I could go on. I've been a regular customer for about 4 years and counting, even though I commute from McKinleyville now. Hilariously, Westwood Murphy's is still probably the most convenient place to consistently get a nice head of broccoli within 5 miles of my new place. So you can find me here- where the people are friendly, the lines are fast, and the neon sign says "pen". read more

Great place to shop. Good mix of local, organic, and traditional/value priced foods. Staff very friendly, very relaxed place to shop.

I shop here about 2 times a week and I love it. There is always parking, they sell local goods, and have great deals from time to time. For some things they are more expensive for national brand things, but have great deals on local produce, vegetables, and tasty micro brews. Their hot food deli and seafood section are much smaller than other locations, but they carry Humboldt Grass-fed beef at a great price. You can also find free range chicken and turkey here for a lower than the Co-op. They stay open late, 11pm I think. read more

We shop here about twice a month to get the non perishables or the occasional dessert night treat. The cashiers are friendly except for this one lady who on two occasions seemed to have an attitude with me. Some of their brands are a bit expensive for my taste, so I limit what I buy here. read more

This is the second time choosing Murphy's Market in Arcata for a sandwich and the second time I've been throughly impressed! Bomb sandwiches! Everything is super fresh , they make it easy to order, the staff is on it and super friendly and fast! I love this market so much. The staff is all so nice and everything is very affordable, and it's probably the most unpretentious market around aside from maybe Safeway, which isn't really a 'market' so much as a corporate grocery store. The chef who makes the hot food is very talented as well as very kind, I've met him before! The chicken is so delicious, it was some of the best chicken I've had ever, and my friend was so obsessed with Chinese food day haha. read more

I went there to get some food at the deli but the deli was closed...i saw the food right behind the display counter so I asked the staff at front if I could get someone to place some of the deli food in a cup for me. The staff said no they couldn't serve any food from the deli once it's closed even though I see the food right there behind the counter in plain sight with a small Saran Wrap. How hard would it be to just pull the Saran Wrap back, put some in a cup, weigh it out, and let me buy it...are you kidding me? read more

My husband and I come here almost daily since it's our neighborhood grocery store. They have awesome staff--especially, Russel and Ed. They have a pretty good variety for a small store. Prices are reasonable, maybe a little more than Safeway but the convenience makes up for it. I also love that they are tolerant of the neighborhood homeless guy who hangs out in the shopping center. This store reminds me why I love living in Humboldt County. read more

Shopp(ed) here for the convenience this past 3 years. Attitude of 1 check-out employee (who has been there since the time I first came to this place) soured my experience in one fell swoop ! Short curly blond older lady acts like she has a problem if I check the receipt (I just spent $100 lady and I have to make sure I got everything). Her rolling eyes, snarky smiles, passive-aggressive comments (saying loudly - this is our rush time - when there's 2 people in the line) leads one to wonder if she owns the place? Having spent hundreds if not thousands $$ shopping regularly this past 3 years, I am going to avoid this place as much as possible. You are doing me no favors!
