On my most recent trip, my friend and I were looking for a place to sit and catch up two days after Christmas. A lot of places were closed, but she reminded me that Wildberries has a patio area for seating. I hit up the juice bar for a delicious carrot and pineapple and turmeric juice with ginger, and headed out to the patio. There were many beautiful plants, and even though the weather was gray and drizzly on that day, it was still fun to watch people go by and it was very relaxing. It was like one huge sun room, and I bet it is gorgeous in the summertime. I live about 40 minutes away, otherwise I would be in this market daily! read more

All baked fresh daily. All in the small little building! Very impressive. It is always really busy and people move through the store quickly to grab that one thing they need. Lot of things wrong with this place. It pretends to be a local grocer while also claiming my Tribal Identification is not a valid ID (TSA and banks and all relevant law says otherwise) yet they say it is "outside the jurisdiction of a grocery store" and "maybe the police could use it". I can get on a plane, apply for a loan, or buy a home but they insist im not allowed to buy a drink. :/ dissapointing and pointlessly difficult for a large portion of our permanent community. Kind of changed over time - used to be our favorite stop and shop, but the staff has gradually become so aggressively rude it's unpleasant to drop in now. The checkers are still pretty friendly and the Ramon's staff is always happy. Love that they have such late night hours, but where did the chill vibe and all the nice guys go? Miss that. read more

I have not encountered this same behavior in any of the other markets, however in my observations, the other markets in town tend to employ from an apparent broader age range whereas wildberries tends to staff from a younger and likely more close-minded and entitled demographic. To the second point, I am left with the impression that the cost of selected items is higher relative to other markets, the reason for which I am not certain. Therefore, I will be reconsidering my future support for this business, as I feel generally unwelcome at this establishment, particularly as I can find what I need elsewhere, often at a similar or lower price and dispense with being subjected to passive aggressive forms of hostility from a not insignificant portion of the staff. read more

After 14+ hours on the road, all I wanted to do was check into my dreamy treehouse of an Airbnb, stuff my face, and go to bed. Beyond the requirement of some semblance of dinner, I also needed decongestant and lip balm, and while Wildberries' appearance veered more on the side of "natural" groceries, I crossed my fingers that they would have everything we needed. As we walked in, gorgeous plants and flowers greeted us: succulent gardens, prickly tillandsia arrangements, bright and colorful fresh bouquets, and more. Bistro tables line the windowed front of the store, and we were pleased to see a deli, salad bar, and hot food station, all of which was hoppin' with customers - good evidence that it had to at least be decent. I got a cup of tomato soup, a pint of "Asha's Lemon Cucumber Salad" (this was really exceptional), along with a container of curry and beet salad (I was really hungry, okay?!), my husband got ALL THE PASTA: pesto, spaghetti, and mac and cheese. There are napkins and utensils at the storefront, and all the food we ate was okay to great. Along the opposite wall, we spied cakes, cookies, and other treats, under signage for locally owned Ramone's Bakery. There was a menu for coffee and other drinks, and it was like a sweet mini café within the store. When exploring a new supermarket I MUST check out the chocolate selection, and being from out of town, was excited to discover numerous completely unfamiliar brands. I think I selected and returned about ten bars before settling on Lulu's Raw Love (sweetened with coconut sugar, lovely texture and nuanced flavor), and Wildberries' own Raspberry Chipotle Truffle (made for the store by a local chocolatier, and while the packaging is rather humble, this was so so yummy). If I ever return, I will definitely stock up on those Wildberries bars as they were so reasonable at around $3 each, with 15+ different flavors. Oh! And they had an adorable solid chocolate banana slug, which we couldn't say "no" to, and made an excellent souvenir for our neighbor's boys. In the end, Wildberries had everything we needed, and then some. They offer a good mix of natural and more conventional foods and products, with a strong emphasis on locally produced goods. The store is attractive and pleasant to shop. The variety of prepared foods was very convenient, and the addition of seating in the store is a nice touch. Prices were in line with similar grocery stores and employees were friendly. If I lived in the area this would likely be my go-to spot. read more

I hope they evaluate the type of individuals they have running a business that deals with community since anyone and everyone has the need to feed themselves. If you're used to visiting typical grocery stores, prepare for a bit of a shock when visiting the very non-typical Wildberries. This is essentially health food store with aisles of products that are neither familiar or mainstream and a clientele to match. It goes with the independent, health-oriented spirit of Arcata in general, so hats off to a locally-run business that knows what its customers want - especially when it seems like an inordinate amount of those customers have some obscure food allergy. I came here frequently back in my college days and decided to pay them another visit while in town. I used to love grabbing soup at the bar near the front. While I didn't see soup, it looks like they are still serving food there and they have a fantastic selection of sandwiches at the deli as well. In general, prices are higher and the aforementioned brand selection will mean getting creative if there are more mainstream brands you are looking for. It really comes down to just making the adjustment. If you want quality and want to support an independent, local business, Wildberries should be your first visit. read more

Staff is combative towards the less fortunate and mentally ill. My cousin went in today for something to eat and dog food. While in the dog food aisle, he and his service animal were approached by a middle aged male manager who told him that you "can't have pets in here" when my cousin expressed that his dog was a service animal the man retorted that his dog "shouldn't be sniffing the dog food" He continued to harass him about the validity of his dog's service training without relent and expressed that "his money is no good here". This triggered a severe panic attack and considering my cousin is homeless they treated him like less than a person because of his appearance. I love this market! They have a great selection of items and curbside pick-up. If you're from out of town, be sure to grab some Larrupin Sauce and something from Ramone's Bakery. I recently tried out their curbside pick-up, and it was a great experience (much better than the instant cart/Safeway that my family was using). The website navigates pretty well and you have the option to request a substitution if your item is not available. In my case, I had not requested a substitution but the staff person handling my order called me anyways to see if I would like a similar item, which I did. I appreciate that the market's own staff is handling the order. The order was ready by the scheduled time. The wait time from the time I parked until I got the groceries was very short, and convenience fee very minimal. Definitely worth it! read more

I don't know who they got working in the sandwich department but it's so painstakingly bad. I have NEVER wrote a review on a place in my life, but I am constantly disappointed in the quality. The bar is so low especially for a simple sandwich. Didn't remember half the stuff I asked for. Payed extra for things that weren't put on the sandwich, didn't heat it up, took forever, horrible bread & didn't cut the sandwich. I know multiple people who have gotten sick from the hot food. As much as I want to support this place they just have horrible quality, overpriced food. I will never be getting another sandwich here and honestly if I can manage I don't feel like returning here. 7/10 times I have a bad experience and I'm not willing to take the risk anymore. read more

It's difficult to write this review update. I love visiting Wildberries Marketplace, and bringing out-of-town guests is great fun; they love the visit! The parking situation was a little better, but I realize now why the parking lot is always full, there is no separate parking for employees. I saw some of the many employees that work in the store/cafe walking to their cars in the same lot where the customer's park. There were some new cashiers without the attitude towards us non-regulars as their regular employees, I hope they can maintain that friendly personality. Customer service is horrible. One of the cashiers, Chrissy, I believe was extremely rude. She was aggressively throwing my food to me while I was bagging them myself and didn't say one word to me throughout the whole transaction and just stood there looking annoyed. She never asked me if I wanted a receipt and when I asked for one she simply said, "too late!" and carried on. She made me feel uncomfortable and had an attitude. There are many other stores around. I recently purchased about $21.00 (and change) worth of food (2 items) and payed with a hundred dollar bill. The cashier asked me if I wanted a receipt and I said no. The clerk then gave me $75.50 in change. The cash register listed my change as $78.50. Note: I did not leave the register. When I pointed out that my change was three dollars short the clerk asked me if I had a receipt! When I pointed out that he had asked me if I wanted a receipt just 30 SECONDS ago and I said no. Note, I was still standing in front of the cash register the hole time. I then asked him to scroll down to his registers transaction history to see that he made a mistake, he REFUSED. The clear then told me that he would take my word and handed me ONE DOLLAR, not the three dollars he shorted me. When I mentioned to him he still owed me two dollars he turned his back on me and proceeded to check out the customer behind me. This clerks attitude was that I was trying to rip him off. Wildberries market is one of the most expensive stores in Arcata. With some items nearly twice the cost of Safeway for the same item. I was very embarrassed and left the store. When I returned the next day to get my deposit back I went to a register that was being opened by a female clerk. I was the first person to walk up to the register and only had a bottle return. This clerk told me to step to the back of the line and took a person that was not even in line when she opened the register. There is something wrong with Wildberries when they so blatantly abuse a 40 year customer in this manor. Two different clerks two different days. Always take your receipt and count your change before you leave the register. Though that is no grantee that you won't be shorted your change with a bad attitude clerk. read more

We come here for coffee and a snack in the patio area... We do our grocery shopping elsewhere. Nice feeling grocery store. College-age shoppers can fill the place. High schoolers pile in during lunch time. Can feel very crowded, my friends think the aisles are too narrow. Does have a few things going for it: -very large deli with hot and cold food, buffet style. Very popular. I use to love getting sandwiches here when they were cheaper. -juice bar -Ramones coffee shop and bakery inside of store -BAYVIEW patio dining area!!! I cannot stress this enough, one of the only of places in arcata with a good view. Can be hard to find a table as people like to camp out at a table but signs ask you to limit your stay. read more

While revisiting some of my old haunts near HSU, we made a stop at Wildberries. This market is located in the old Safeway building in North Arcata. It has been in business for a very long time, so they obviously have served their market well, even though some of their prices are nearly twice that of other stores. The part that impressed us the most was their salad bar and hot foods area. Although it was later in the day and the hot food selections were pretty well picked over, we were still impressed by the variety and choices available. For example, there were 3 tofu dishes to select from, several chicken choices and foreign dishes. Compared to our local Coop in Boise, what a difference! The produce area was small, but we found locally grown Hachiya persimmons there. Never knew these were grown inland from Humboldt Bay. And unlike most of the other organic produce, these were very fairly priced. Will have to return for more before the crop runs out. read more

This is my favorite deli spot in Humboldt county. They have amazing options from really amazing sandwiches to vegan and vegetarian options. They have many varieties of health food options. Their fruits and veggie sections are small as they only carry what is in season. The prices are strap for groceries but hey most of everything is organic and healthier options than you can find in a Safeway. The employees are friendly and the store is always clean. My grocer of choice while I lived in the Boldt. I find that depending on which side of Arcata you live in, you're either a wildberries shopper or a co-op shopper, not that you can't venture in between. I could definitely be seen gathering up my favorite products at wildberries at least once, sometimes up to four times a week. I swear I lived off of wildberries and brio bread rolls for days at a time. I was pleased upon my return to discover the soups were still fantastical and so perfect to slurp on the glass enclosed wildberries porch, watching the fog rolling across the arcata bay in the distance. How much I love thee wildberries, your smoothie stand, salad bar, how ramones cafe is tucked away neatly in the corner...so many great memories. I'm not going to say, go out of your way to stop at wildberries, but it's worth if you're shopping or looking for something warm as you pass by! I also adore their deli, salads, grilled salmon, their specials always rock the foodie world. I love that Ramones is still inside to get a frothy cafe, killer double chocolate walnut cookie or croissant. Wildberries has a couple places to take a load off and eat. This market is always busy, its one of those stores that no matter what time you go - there are always people shopping. With it's close proximity to the college and location literally in the middle of town, it is a true community hub. There's a great deli counter, which usually has line especially during the lunch time hours. All the organic, local and sustainable ingredient products and goods you would hope to find in a health food store/market are on the shelves and in the display cases, as well as a lot of the standard items of a traditional grocery store. Along with a Juice bar and build your own salad bar, there is also a Ramones bakery has a service counter inside. There is a ticket service window is located inside making it easy to purchase tickets to most of the local events, concerts and entertainment venues. Also, this market has one of the nicest and largest organic/local produce selections around - the plaza farmers market at full summer season is about the only thing better.
