I was visiting Beaverton Oregon and the first music store I went into recommended Five Star…read moreGuitars. I immediately liked the selection of instruments and amplifiers. Michael was quick to help me find the perfect Mesa Boogie and brought down some custom PRS guitars so I could rock out and relax. I had a great time playing for a couple of hours. I returned the next day and continued to play and chat with the great staff. Geoff introduced himself and asked what I was interested in. He brought me a few high quality guitars until I couldn't resist. He made me a smoking deal on the JP Mesa Boogie and a beautiful purple mist PRS. I recommend FSG's and will definitely continue business with them even though I am from the Central Valley in California.

I was told I had 30 days to return it. I didn't like it and tried to return it a few weeks later. What I wasn't told was that I'd only get $50 as in store credit if the box was damaged (just the box, not the actual product itself). The worst part was the guy looked up the resell price on a used version and it came to about $80, but he then took 35% off even though it's a return. I then wanted to buy an amp (What I originally wanted before I was talked into something else) and asked for something around the $150 mark. He then tried to talk me into an amp without telling me the price. I had to firmly ask what the price was twice before he told me it's $300. Even though I was visibly upset from losing $100 from a product I bought from them because the box was damaged. I finally got him to show me exactly what I wanted. If you go here, know exactly what you want and be firm about it so you're not talked into getting something you don't want that costs more money. Also know that the boxes their products are in are worth $100 so you can't return a perfect condition product, within their return window, if the box is damaged.

I've never been so insulted. These clowns must have assumed they were stolen. "Where'd you get them? Why are you selling?..." Hey pal, I have multiple instruments and these were two I almost never play (as if it's any of their business). They claimed there were problems with both and weren't interested. Now, I have done business with them multiple times, but they can kiss this customer goodbye! I'm not a thief, but these guys are jerks. To prove these were from my personal collection, I've included a picture of my remaining guitars. I ended up gifting the guitars to my niece.

But I came at about 2:45 and the whole place was still dark. Just a thought - maybe have enough staff around at all times that some of your employees can take lunch while others are still on shift? Were they closed for summer vacation again and just didn't tell anyone? Sorry, but I'm all done here. You've wasted enough of my time. At one time Portland Music Co. was the best in the city. Those days are gone. It's better to buy music online nowadays anyway. The prices are often marked down by 20% or more if you get in on a holiday sale or something.

We are so disappointed in Hoffman Academy. Our son desperately wanted to learn piano but we were…read moreunable to attend based on their rigid and uncompromising decision to not allow a 4 year old to start (private) piano lessons ... within just weeks of turning five. In our initial conversations, they said they could meet with our 4 year old and see if he was ready but then they changed their mind and "decided to draw a firm line" at 5 years old. The problem with this is that our son is 4 and will be 5 years old just DAYS before he starts kindergarten. We wanted the opportunity to allow him a couple weeks of private lessons to understand if he liked it and if he felt ready to take on a full semester. The school denied us and said we were welcome to sign him for the 18 week fall semester. This is actually hurting his abilities since his fellow 5 year old classmates/cohort of which he is held to the same standard in every other way, would have the opportunity to be exposed to piano gradually during a calm summer, but our 4.9 year would get no such benefit. I must admit that I've heard good things about the Academy (indeed that is why we're so heartbroken to not be a part of it) though we have decided against participating with this school even when he is older. I understand the basis for a rule like this but abiding to the letter of the law in this circumstance seems cold. A staff that is unable to look at your child and the situation and make the best decision for everyone involved is not a place we feel we belong.

Can't say enough good things about Mr Dave the guitar instructor, but we didn't like the way the…read moreAcademy is run. They have a "no make up lessons" policy so that if your child is sick or unable to attend for any reason, you still pay and cannot get another appnt. I think this day and age to have no flexibility like that is a bit unrealistic.

She has worked with several instructors over time, including Bex, Ari, and Luciana, and every single one has been amazing. Right now she is taking lessons with Sam, and we highly recommend him! He is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and always brings such a great vibe to the lessons. We can clearly see my daughter's progress, and it is obvious that he genuinely cares and gets so excited seeing how much she has improved (whenever she learns something new or finally masters a piece they have been working on, you can see the joy on his face). If you are lucky, you may be able to get a spot with him! NOte: He occasionally goes on tour with his band (which I think is awesome), but even when substitute instructors step in, the experience has always been great.
