I came here because by word of mouth, and I always crave some good asian food! Came here to review its authenticity and quality.
We dropped by for dinner and was served quite quickly upon arriving. I noticed the decor was simple but nice, however, the chairs weren't so comfortable.
I also noticed that the sushi was quite cheap. We ordered a sushi roll, a squid tempura, and salmon sashimi to start. The salmon sashimi portion was larger than most other restaurants compared to the price, but I don't think the cut was the nicest. I'm quite particular with my salmon sashimi (my fave!), and I like them super fatty (evenly distributed) and cut thick... Musashi didn't serve the best quality salmon to sashimi sashimi standards.
Now, the tempura was another story. I was craving calamari that night so I ordered the squid tempura. I was hoping for baby squid but they had the bigger kind, but the batter was to die for! Its proper japanese tempura batter. I'll definitely try the shrimp version next time.
The sushi roll I ordered was california. I particularly liked their consistency of the rice, I think they added more vinegar than usual and thus it was a lot more sticky and chewy to taste, which I liked. It satisfied my sushi cravings and I ordered another roll - the crab/ avocado one. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't real crab in the roll, but shredded imitation crab (mainly flour + minced fish parts). But to be realistic, at €6.5 a roll, was I really expecting real crab? In my opinion, I would rather pay a bit more for the real thing, but I guess their selling proposition is to keep everything cheap.
Which brings me to dessert. They had dessert menu of assorted cakes for €4. Not bad? I was curious what kind of quality/ portions they will serve at that price, so I ordered the apple pie.
Utterly disappointed. It was surely the kind that was mass manufactured a while ago and then mass distributed to different chains, but hey again for €4? I would have preferred a smaller (bite-sized) portion of better quality - just to top off my meal.
Oh yes, the cups of tea they served when we sat down? They were only complimentary. I only found this out when I had to chase the waiter to top up my tiny cup of beverage, only to find out that I would have to order a teapot to have more. So It did. The tiny teacup probably only held 300ml of diluted tea.... cost €2. Maybe would have been just as satisfied ordering boiled water.
All in all, good value for money. But I wouldn't be coming here to "treat" myself to a fancy meal as to just have a decent meal out. read more
