I found out about this place via Groupon. My first visit was a massage and I enjoyed it very much. I honestly do not know why there are so many bad reviews here. Yes sure, it's not your average Western spa where the environment feels extremely relaxing and the ambiance isn't the prettiest. You are face down majority of the time, so why does that even matter? If you like a deep tissue massage, this is the place for you! They also offer other massages but I usually just let them do what they feel my body needs. I sit a lot for my job so it's usually the deep tissue. Jennifer's Day Spa has never disappointed me and since I enjoyed it so much my first time, I decided to get the package. I never had an issue with booking. I recently tried cupping and I loved it! They also offer facials here which I will try at some point especially after being at a dog park recently. I bumped into a lady that saw my cupping marks and asked me where I got it done. Once I said Jennifer Day Spa she told me she had went there as well and it was the best facials she's ever gotten and they do a great job. The package deal I got after I redeemed my Groupon was the 10 massages for $500, they even throw in a free massage so it's really 11 massages for $45/each. That kind of price can't be beat. The massages I've received here at Muse in Lake Hiawatha, always puts me to sleep. Just the right pressure and it was relatively quiet. I had some a snafu regarding an appointment I had placed weeks ago, but they worked it out. I went to the spa last week on 1-20-22 and got a mediocre massage. A woman picked up the phone, asked for my phone number and a date/time that worked best for me. She didn't even asked me for my name which I found odd. When I arrived to the place, I was charged an extra sales tax ($3) even though I already purchased the massage from Groupon. Why are they charging sales tax for a something I already purchased?! I paid and went to the room to get ready for my massage. The massage itself was decent and relaxing which I appreciate. There were a few times when the massage therapist put a lot of pressure on the back of my neck which felt uncomfortable. Towards the end of the massage, the massage therapist starts telling me about purchasing a membership package to get more massages done. Some of these packages are like $500 which is absurd! She could have waited until after the massage was over to tell me about this and not during the massage. In addition, the business has already decided how much you'll tip ($10) and you must pay that amount. She asked me if I preferred light or strong pressure and if I had any concerns, I had to ask her name which I believe was Elaine She did a great massage, asked me if I was ok and if pressure was good. It was a full hour very thorough. I would return but would like a more personal greeting and maybe a bigger cup of water offered after the massage. I purchased a Groupon deal for a couple's one hour facial and one hour massage. When initially making the reservation, they were very accommodating, which was a positive start. The day of our appointment started off well. We were shown to a small room in the back, was offered use of the bathroom, and were told what to do (I noticed previous reviewer mentioned they were just left in the room with no instruction, so maybe they listen to their reviewers?) The table is plastic and not very comfortable. They offer a thin cold blanket. But once my masseuse noticed I was cold, she took out another blanket. However, i would suggest they invest in blanket warmers like other massage parlors. Since my husband and I got a couples package, i assumed our facials would be in sync. Boy, was I wrong! First, my husband only recieved a 30 minute facial. He literally lay flat on the table next to me with a mask on while my masseuse was painfully working on extracting my blackheads. I had to tell her at least five times to stop. I would tell her stop but she kept going! Now for the actual back massage. It was mediocre. My last visit here was defintely better. It was also very hard to relax when the two women talked & whispered almost non stop in a different language. We both also mentioned less pressure a few times during the massage but they seem to be robotic with their massage style and would lessen the pressure but then go back to more pressure? I guess you get what you paid for! Oh btw, the lights in theroom was on the whole time! When we were finally done, I couldn't remember exactly the amouny I paid, so I paid $8 for "tax". Since we were not too happy with our facial and massage, I still wanted to tip $20. The woman argued with me that no, I have to tip for the full price. Normally, I would have like the last time, BUT service lacked and tip is based on how well the experience is. However, I did feel pressured and ended up giving a total of $30 tip for our couples massage.... Once I got home, I looked up how much we paid and it was $73 on Groupon.. IF you decide to purchase a groupon, make sure to print out your voucher and KNOW how much you paid for it because they will tax you and pressure you to provide tip. Do not go here! Place is a rip off. Purchased a Groupon for couples 60 minute facial & 60 minute massage. Facial was good; but, it was completed at a quick pace. Massage therapists spoke another language and one girl seemed not to understand English. She had to keep checking with the other girl to interpret. They used mineral oil (baby oil) which is not an appropriate oil for massage. Majority of massage therapist use specialist oils and lotions and sometimes even olive or grape seed oils. When discussed what happened to the manager, she was rude and denied the fact her employees did not provide the important pregnancy accommodations for a pregnant person. Then she proceeded to scold at the massage therapists for not getting the pregnancy pillows, wanted to charge extra fees for a pregnancy massage (that did not occur), and said they have been in business a long time. Keep in mind; that real massage therapists go through extensive training in order to massage various types of clients, including pregnant women. Beware this is not your typical day spa! Unprofessional. Vietnamese run, the massage was a cross between Chiropractic and rubbing, a lot of slapping, hitting and twisting. Communication was a problem because only one of them spoke English and the other lady had to translate. I asked over and over again to avoid my spine but a couple of times I had to push her hands away. I also asked to lighten the pressure. My husband did not enjoy it either he says it felt like she used her elbow in several instances. Then they charged us $8 tax after I used the Groupon. That was unexpected.
