I try to always go into reviewing with the idea that all places start at five stars (I'm a positive guy). This way of thinking really pays off when I do go somewhere that quickly solidifies and holds that fantastic five star feel. Case in point: Muse Paintbar in Port Jeff. My wife and her family recently visited to celebrate her sister's birthday and to do a little paint class which was awesome from start to finish. Focusing on the start and the odd situation in which things began, Muse was actually without most power at the 11:30 time that we strolled in. The class didn't start until 12:00, but we were still a bit hesitant when entering. Very quickly the staff was accommodating in saying they were going to be using light boxes to help with seeing during the class, that they would be giving us a free round of drinks, and that they had actually heard the lights should be back on by around 12, so there was hope we wouldn't be in the dark when we did start to paint. Lo and behold the electrical gods (or PSEG) had things up and running by 11:45 and we were good to go for the entire paint class. But the important part here is that the staff treated everything respectfully to the customer. Speaking of staff, Ashley (our lead painter who stood on a small stage and had a microphone) along with Jude, Joli, and all employees we encountered were super friendly, supportive (when it came to some apprehensive feelings about some of our artwork process), and a pleasure to spend two hours with. At no point did we feel like what we were asked to paint/do wasn't possible or that we made a mistake and it couldn't be fixed. That mentality is important to have when entering the art realm so it was nice to feel that vibe the entire time. A few quick notes before wrapping things up (because I can't say much more about the painting itself as that's up to your own results and interpretations), those comped drinks were great (even if we chose non-alcoholic ones). My wife and her mom got sangria-flavored sodas (pretty tasty) and I had a cucumber mint limeade which was delicious. The other note was, as mentioned, it was my sister-in-law's birthday and knowing this, Muse allows anyone celebrating something to take a staff-completed paint class painting that they store in a celebration box as a gift. It was a super cool final part of the afternoon. Overall, everything about Muse Paintbar in Port Jeff was perfect. Even without lights for the first bit of time when we showed up felt like the staff was ready to accommodate us and that continues throughout our time in this fun little art studio (I forgot to mention the Star Wars themed bathroom with paintings of characters was out of this world! Ha ha!). I would definitely come back again for another paint class (we're already thinking of doing one around the holidays) and would recommend them to anyone looking for what will most certainly be an easy five star experience. read more

I agree with most of the other reviewers. This place has the potential to be great but they fall short in some areas. Everyone who works there is very friendly and helpful. The class itself was a bit too long and not as easy to follow as some other paint classes I have done. The seating is awkward. I had to keep straining my neck to see the instructor and the chairs were super uncomfortable! Food was subpar and overpriced. The instructor was friendly but a little too quick and the size of the canvas we had was a bit too small to even paint like the example. We also wasted a bit of time with the blow dryers which I have never seen done. Overall, I would not return but enjoyed the experience of painting with my fiancé. read more

Never going here again. Got seated practically on the bar, couldn't even pull our stools out without bumping into people waiting on line/at the bar. Went to move the table 5 inches up and got told not to move the table because the workers need space to walk around. Way too small of a place for the amount of people they try to fit in. And when you are actually sitting and painting, they sit you at a tiny high top with absolutely no room to move due to the supplies and food/drinks. We ordered food and drinks before the painting even started. Firstly, it cost me way too much just for two drinks and two appetizers. Secondly, the food never came out. They called out "last call" for the kitchen and we hadn't even gotten our food that we ordered before the painting started. I eventually said something to the bartender who told me that their ticket system got messed up. If I never said anything, they would have just let the night go on without giving me my food that I paid for. Then, the food came out with 10 minutes left in the session. We barely had enough time to eat before they started telling people to leave and "be mindful" that they had another session coming while asking us to tip. We felt like an inconvenience for being there. The pretzel bites we ordered were cold. The boneless wings were decent, but a very small serving and not worth the price. Overall, the food and drinks were way too overpriced for the amount you get, especially when they obviously just heat up frozen food from a bag (which they couldn't even do properly). The couple next to us got a refund for their food not coming out. They never offered a refund or anything for our food coming out so late. As for the actual painting and instructor, they move way too fast - especially if you are new to painting or doing a more complex design. Another guy even had to tell the instructor to slow down, but she said she had to keep instructing because they were trying to stay on their schedule. The instructor was nice, but they're experienced and don't give the audience enough time to figure things out. Overall, the idea is there but the way things are run is not. read more

This was my second time at Muse with my family. We wanted to paint something other than what was being taught, and we were coached separately throughout the class. We were even provided a bigger canvas so we could all work comfortably. It was a complicated piece, so we needed extra time to complete it, and all of the workers were friendly, understanding and patient. Some of the food could use improvement, like the fries and mac and cheese bites, but generally was tasty. I look forward to returning soon! read more

Took my girlfriend here as part of a birthday present. We did the "colorful" sunset theme. The class/painting session was alright. They provide you with the canvas, the brushes and the paint. The instructor was friendly and goes step by step and answers any questions you might have. If you are completely new to painting you may learn a few things. But it's generic, motel art. They have different, more interesting classes, but the cost goes up. For the "sunset" class, which was the cheapest option I saw, it was about $50 per person. NO drinks included. For a "Paint and Drink" bar you'd think maybe one drink would be included with your $50 entry fee, but no, that is not the case. And if you want to buy a $12 sangria and have cash- you will be out of luck because they DO NOT ACCEPT CASH. The future is convenience! Anyway, in summation, we had an alright time, but felt it was a kind of rip off and if you are a business, especially a bar, that doesn't take cash... welp. Came here on a Winter Saturday night for a date night, and all my expectations were far exceeded. Came in and greeted by our instructor for the evening, Ken, who might be the sweetest man to walk this Earth. After showing us the layout of the studio, we ordered some drinks from the bar from Gi and Natasha who were also nothing but helpful and kind all night long. We opted for margaritas, but they have a number of boozy and booze free delights to pick from. We didn't order any food but they have a great looking menu that even includes some vegan options should you need. The name of the game here really is inclusivity. Once the class got started, all my nerves of being a poor artist washed away. Ken guides you through all the steps you need to get a good looking piece of art! Now I certainly won't say that mine came out the same way the picture looked, but for my talents I was very impressed and really did have a fun time doing it. A great activity where you will laugh and come out of it a little dirtier than you expect, but I think the experience is so worth it, would love to come back again! Such a perfect fun date place! I went on Valentine's Day with my boyfriend and they had a specific couples painting for the day. When you walk in you are instructed to either sit in the first immediate room or the one in the back. I sat in the room in the back with my boyfriend which was smaller and more intimate. It had the previous paintings hung up on the walls and the painting you were supposed to be mimicking in the front. At your table there is a QR code to scan so that you can order drinks from the bar, which is brought to you at your seat. You are given aprons, paintbrushes, and paint so there is no need to bring anything. The instructor was so friendly and the instructions were super easy to follow. I hosted my daughters birthday at Muse this morning. I can't say enough good things. I've never been to a paint bar before and never even walked into this place before today. I did all the booking online but once I walked in I felt very comfortable. I was greeted by two employees who constantly offered assistance. My daughter's birthday was a group of ten and the room was a great size for that plus to have some adults stay or come and go as they please. Rachele was our painter and did all she could to make sure the party ran smoothly. She was great with the kids and constantly keeping in touch with us to see if there were ways she could help. Thank you!!!! As for the location it was clean and worked well for the party. My daughter chose a design that wasn't on the list so I paid the extra fee and they accommodated. Most people didn't like the cinnamon pretzels including myself but I'd say that was the only downfall and I honestly didn't care. We brought in a cooler with drinks for kids and adults, some donuts and a cake, and ordered pizzas which were delivered. The kids seemed to have a great time and it was something different other than the average "kids" party. My younger daughter already told me that's what she wants to do for her birthday also! (You can also bring your own) I think the price was a little high for the painting that was done as it wasn't that complex for $45. I use to pay around 35/40 in the city. Took my 10 year old niece for her birthday. Had an awesome time. Was a little pricey. $25 for a child. But I only had one child with me so it wasn't bad. Awesome for a date night, girls night, or a therapeutic art session! I had a fantastic time at Muse for my first ever "Paint Night". While the session did feel a bit rushed, I had a ton of fun and got to paint something quite impressive. Located in the heart of Port Jeff- coming here during the summer months will cost you in parking and could be an issue finding spots close by. Coming off season was a great idea, free parking and didn't have to walk much. The prices were cheaper than I expected them to be. For a 2 and a half hour painting, it only costed $30pp + it was free drink night! The house drinks were definitely on the weak side, but they also had other types of wine & beers. As for food- all frozen & definitely not homemade. I decided on ordering the appetizer sampler but wouldn't get it again. Personally I would just wait until after the class to get some real food. The instructor & helpers were extremely friendly and helped during the painting. The only issue i had was this was an extremely tough painting that took a very long time and required many tedious steps...with that being said, at the end of the painting I really feel like our instructor started rushing through to finish which got frustrating, especially for a first timer. That's where I had to minus 1 star. Overall I had such a fun time painting my very own "Masterpiece" and I'm looking forward to attending another class. read more

I would give it a 3.5 rating. I just think the instructor should be more prepared and look like she's having fun being there. This is the first time I have ever experienced a paint bar and I have to say it was a spectacular experience! The instructor goes through slowly step by step how to complete the painting and does it along with you. It is very easy to follow. They gave you 3 colors and 5 different brushes which were clearly labeled. The instructor was constantly advising which brush to use. There was a bar and a few menu items but I didn't get anything this time because I really wanted to focus on my painting. There were many other instructors walking around that were very willing to help and answer any questions for you! You walk in and are told which room you're in and your reservation name will be on a post-it note to your assigned canvas. You hang your stuff, grab an apron and you order drinks! This is going to be a long one! I want to start off by saying this place is a little far from home however, it is always worth the drive. I am so in love woth this cute litte spot. My boyfriend and I have gone three times already and we always look for the paint nights where Alyssa & Ashley are in. They are so sweet and amazing. Everytime we go they are both so helpful and kind. They slow down when needed, repeat the steps, or are very patient when it comes to helping you draw whatever need be. They constantly walk around and never make us feel like we are not artists.. (trust me we are not) LOL. I have a fun time everytime, they allow you to buy a botte of wine for your night and when youre concentrated and low on wine Ashley pours you out some more :) . I think everything about this place is amazing I have been to other paint locations on the island and others out of state and Nothing compares to Muse. I highly recommend this place. This was my first time going to a Paint Night and honestly, my time at Muse made me want to come back for more! My boyfriend and I came without reservations and the instructors were very accommodating and welcoming! They let us choose where we preferred to sit (at one of the open tables). We happened to come at free drinks night so we got to trade in our name cards for any of their drinks on the top self or the house white or red. They gave us aprons to borrow, all of the paint already spread out on individual plates on the tables with water cans and brushes, and LED lights and batteries for the particular piece we were doing that night (flowers and fireflies). The instructor, Priscilla, was so bubbly and so nice and encouraging - I would seriously come back for her! Karen, the other instructor, was just as nice, walking around to help those of us lagging behind. 2.5 hours and ~$33 later, we all went home with our own masterpieces. It was such a fun experience - would highly recommend coming for a date, with a group (they do group parties!), or just with some friends who have nothing to do! The muse Paintbar was so fun! The setup was cute. Our instructor Priscilla was super kind and was an amazing artist and because our class was on the smaller side, she made sure to really help us out! We got the ice cream and sangria, the ice cream was good but the sangria was delicious! The class lasted about an hour and thirty minutes and at the end Priscilla gave us extra time to work on parts of our paintings that we wanted to fix and she was very encouraging and even offered to take pictures of us in front of the muse sign with our new paintings.
