Very nice museum, with a really good audio guide. Has more of Picasso's art he made in his early years. It was. Interesting to see that and hear about his life. We liked seeing the progression in his work. It's a small enough museum that you can see everything quickly and get to your next place. Perfect for the guy who says yeah I want to see some art but really wants to watch a football game. But if you listen to every stop on the guide you can be there for awhile. This museum houses some of Picasso's early work as he was an apprentice in Barcelona. There is some good examples of his incredible portraits and much more. We had to queue to get into the museum for about half an hour but once in it was quite hard to actually find the Picasso collection. They try to make you see other various exhibitions before you see his. Once in there it is spectacularly laid out with the surroundings as impressive as the paintings. The streets around the museum are also worth a visit as they are full of character and music! read more

The Museum in Barcelona was nice but there were not many (if any) of his famous pieces here. However, the museum had many different lesser known pieces with information and stories about Picasso. The physical structure of the museum is nice. I've read where photography was not allowed but did not know about it until after we were finished. I took many photos of the pieces and were never told not to. I did not see many docents in the museum though when we were there. We went through the museum in about 2 hours. read more

Surprisingly large selection of Picasso work. I thought I'd have to travel an hour away from the city to see such a collection so I was happy to find out about this. The museum is located in the Gothic quarters, which is an attraction in itself just by walking around. I'm quickly finding out that it's better to buy tickets in advance in Barcelona and this place is no exception, even on its free admission Thursday nights. You'll get to pick amongst the time slots that still have openings. I suppose it's their way of regulating the number of people at each of these famous attractions so as to provide a better experience for those who visit. One of the best museums in Barcelona, especially if you are interested in Picasso's earlier work and watching him evolve in to the Avant-Garde cubist we know him as. Of particular interest is the in the permanent exhibit is a study of Picasso's artistic interpretation of Diego Velázquez's "Las Meninas." The changing exhibits are always inspiring. The building of the museum itself is amazing to look at and adds to the whole experience. The only thing keeping this from 5 stars is that the museum is missing works from the Spanish Civil War, many of Picasso's most important pieces. read more

Would have loved to see the museum. We took a very long walk from our hotel to find the strikers had entrance blocked off. It was very intimidating. Needless to say this art fan is disappointed. Hopefully some resolution comes soon so others won't be disappointed. read more

Line wasn't too bad. It went by fast. Definitely recommend using an audio guide. It gives you a great understanding of each room instead of aimlessly roaming around. Don't forget to check out the upstairs section. It gives a nice insight of Picasso 's Family linage and how they continued his legacy and how they have impacted the art world! read more

This is the best layout of a museum ever, you see the progression of his work and it is really interesting! The line looked really long but moved very quickly and it did not feel crowded inside. So if you see it and it is halfway down the street, don't be detered. It was absolutely fascinating to see the transition as you moved through rooms from student to artist to very different crazy artist :) His work is amazing to see in person and this is a must stop if you love art. Spent about 1.5 hours inside and was well worth the price of admission. It isn't well marked from the outsid but the couryard inside is beautiful, they have a gift shop of course, and there are audio guides etc. No pictures allowed inside. read more

Great audio tour. Well-organized by period in his life (I guess just chronologically then) and with insightful commentary into his influences. Make sure to read (or, if you aren't cheap, buy) the book "The Dog Who Ate a Picasso" mainly because it is the adorably hilarious tale of Lump, the Dachsund that he adopted. read more

This was a must see for me. We came mid afternoon and the line wasn't too bad, but it was so underwhelming. I thought the collection would be better? It's worth a couple hours but don't expect too much. Maybe try doing the guided tour so you can get in and out in 2-3 hours. read more

To my delight I was able to get into Museu Picasso for free! I believe it was advertised that students still have to pay a reduced rate but either the advert is wrong or the cashier was very nice. The wait to get in can be very long. I waited I think around 30-40 minutes on a Sunday afternoon, though I've heard of people who waited longer. But it is worth it for the amount of time you can spend inside. Anyway Museu Picasso is definitely not a museum to miss for art lovers visiting Barcelona. It went chronologically through his life and was really interesting; I particularly loved the groupings of similar themes. I really loved the multiple re-interpretations of Las Meninas by Velasquez that Picasso had done - there are 58 in total and the museum has all of them (though I can't remember if they show them all)! I didn't love the audiotour - though it was very interesting, it seemed to skip around a lot with different paintings and you'd have to go back a lot to things you saw before, making it all a little confusing to follow. In all, a cool museum, worth a visit, and a re-visit if you really love your Picasso. Don't go when you're really worn out, which is the mistake I made a couple times for museums on my BCN trip! read more

Our goal was this museum, housed in a series of 5 connected houses formerly owned by wealthy businessmen centuries ago. It took us over two hours to see all and that was because we kept moving. No place to sit down and rest. If you need a wheel chair plan to arrange one. We got our tickets on line and that made a big difference as we proceeded to the entry at our assigned time. Most museums sell timed tickets, so learn to order that way and have your hotel help you print them out so you are ready. Art students could study, prepare and spend the summer studying what is here alone.There was a Dali show while we were there, and the audio tour was extensive and very well done for that as well. read more

I really enjoyed this museum! I'm not even a big fan of Picasso. In fact, I'm not an arts connoisseur in any way. : P I do enjoy frequenting museums though, in the hopes that if I keep going, somehow I'll morph into a sophisticated, cultured being ^_^ By pure coincidence my husband and I went on a first sunday of the month, which means free admission. I hear it's free after 3 pm on the other Sundays. The line was INSANE when we got there around 4 pm or so... It seemed to stretch on for MILES. I think my husband wanted to ditch, but we stood in line and actually ended up waiting maybe 30 minutes, which sounds long, but if you saw that line ...I had expected an hour wait. At some point the Barcelona free wifi hot spot does kick in, so the last 15 minutes or so you can browse and check your emails and post pics of Tapas you've been eating on fb ;) Being that we hadn't paid for admission, I got the audio guide without hesitation. I think the price was 3 euros or something. maybe 5 euros?? I forgot already!! anyhow it was pretty cheap. I probably would not have enjoyed the museum without the audio guide. Having only bare minimum knowledge about Picasso and having only seen his well known works, I was surprised to see works of completely different styles, and it was interesting to learn how his style developed into what he is known for today. It's not a huge museum so about 2 hours should suffice if you get the audio guide. Also, despite the long line, it wasn't overly crowded inside. read more

Having read up on the museum before going we didn't expect to see major works, so were happy with what was presented. Very challenging to find and HUGE lines. Did you know picasso worked in ceremics? I didnt until i visited this small but well laid out and curated museum focusing on picasso's early life. Starting this his childhood the museum allows visitors to watch picasso's talent evolve over the years.The audio tours were down the day I visited, but I found the intros by the galley entrances and notes throughout to be enough to help me understand. read more

I enjoy greatly art museums and this museum ranks with the best that I have seen, globally. I truly enjoyed the chronologic organization, showing Picasso's early post-card sized paintings and early art school assignments (like human anatomy). One can truly see how he emerged with impression in 1900 after a visit to Paris and then started on his journey to his various styles including cubism and abstract expressions. There is a wonderful collection of paintings from his blue and rose periods. One gains warmth being surrounded my so much creativity from the brush of Picasso. I particularly enjoyed the exhibition of pottery with Picasso strokes and images. Finally the gift store is expansive with many fine high-quality items, beyond the too abundant brick-brac. We spent two hours at the museum and was well worth the treasure and time. read more

I was pretty disappointed in this museum. If you want a retrospective of Picasso's career, then you'll want to visit the Picasso Museum in Paris instead of this one. This museum presents works from Picasso's teenage years (in which you see how well he mastered the painting styles of the time), his Blue Period (his early 20s), and some very nice works that he did when he was in his 70s. Somehow, this museum manages to skip over his entire career from age 30 to 70 (except that it does include a few paintings that he did in Barcelona when he was 36). Even with the audio tour (which was very nice), no explanation was given about why the museum omitted the vast majority of the artist's career. read more

i love picasso! this museum was a mission to find but i am so glad i went. cost me 18 euros but worth it. i thought it was going to be bigger, definitely a lot smaller then it looks. it was fascinating to see his works from when he started and what he developed. you can really see his skills improving and ultimately he created his own art form. if you're ever in Barcelona, you must come here if you are an art fan! read more

I accompanied a friend to the Picasso Museum during my visit to Barcelona - I had no expectations as I was not really a Picasso fan. My only hope was that it wasn't too expensive... Boy was I in for a surprise! One day a month the museum is free after 3 pm, and the day we arrived was that day! The line was ridiculously long, so we left and returned about 1 hour before the museum closed. There was no line at this time, we walked right into the museum, stored our items and began to explore. I saw so many of Picasso's works that were both famous and obscure and I was pleased to see some mixed media collages he had done that were seemingly unknown (or at least not publicized). I walked away from that free museum trip as a lover of all things Picasso and highly recommending a visit to the museum! read more

The worse experience in a museum, the staff was not polite at all, the way they treat the people is like in a prison, not like a museum is suppose to be. Also they answer you in Catalan if you ask for something in Spanish, even if they know Spanish and you dont know Catalan. What a beautiful Museum, not to mention its in what became my favorite neighborhood of Barcelona. It's located next to delicious local tapas bars and adorable shops on small cobblestone streets. If you've been to NYC, it's similar to the Village or SoHo. Inside the museum is a super romantic feel with exposed stone and brick, there were really gorgeous paintings I had never seen before and we went a little nuts in the gift shop... They have awesome stuff in there. Go have lunch at Lonjas de Tapas or dinner at El Xampaniet and hit up the little shops, a lot of fun. read more

Went on a free Sunday. The line was long but a good time to meet new people and have some ice cream. It was worth the wait. I was very impressed by the curation of the museum. The wait seems to be a pretty regular 45 min. You can book online but it will be from 2 hours from then. We decided to wait- not a bad call probably closer to 30 min. The museum is small. 16 rooms plus the special exhibits. As not art history people a hour was more than sufficient to get through. A lot of perhaps more recognizable works are on loan presently but I did like the format that showed shit progression by year/age. It's 4 stars for me are because I left feeling more like "knocked that off the to do in BCN list" than inspired the way you can by some art museums. read more

I was only satisfied with this museum. During my Euro trip, I was able to visit a lot of different museums and figure out what I did and did not like about each one. Positives: --It's Picasso! Who doesn't like Picasso?! -Even though it's down one of the many alleyways in the Old Town district, it's not hard to find at all. You'll definitely notice the long line too. --Free entry during certain times of the month, so be sure to check it out before you go. -They have an audio guide (not free) that explains different parts of his life as you travel through the museum. Negatives: --It's called Museu Picasso, but there aren't too many of his famous works. I understand the museum is highlighting earlier parts of his life, but I think there should still be a good amount of his well-known works. -The inside is kinda confusing. It took me a minute to figure out how to get in once i bought my ticket! The path that guides you through his timeline isn't put together very well..i found myself just walking around looking at paintings without an understanding of what was going on with him during that point in his life. --I believe Picasso is mostly known for cubism. The one cubism room was entirely based off of one painting. Yes, it was an amazing painting, but i want to see more at the MUSEU PICASSO! -Finally, I got yelled at for carrying a water bottle. I knew that water bottles weren't allowed in museums ahead of time, but it slipped my mind and i get thirsty. Had i realized, of course i would've thrown it away. I think Picasso's work is interesting, especially given the historical context; however, the space itself and the way the art is laid out were less than inspiring. Maybe I wasn't feeling it after a long flight the day before and the hour long wait to get in, but the special collection, which was a collection of photographs of Picasso, was probably the highlight of the museum. read more

This gallery is held in a nice old building but If your not familiar with Picasso's work, but know him mainly only by reputation, don't expect too much in the way of fine art especially if (like me) you go after visiting the breathtaking works of Gaudi! read more

As Jean H posted, I grew up mostly thinking of Picasso as the "blue guy" and the "guy who drew people in shapes" but visiting this museum completely opened up my eyes to the talent that this man has. It's a museum with one artist's work, but if they didnt tell you that, you wouldnt know. Picasso was capable of ANYTHING. I really enjoyed his earlier work. And you don't need to purchase the audio because the blurbs they have on the wall and next to the paintings are great on their own. I'm not a museum girl and I'm not an artsy fartsy girl but I really really enjoyed my trip here. read more
