The Yamaha NTX1 that I purchased had fret buzzing issue. Cameron at the front door suggested me to go straight to Xander to check. Xander suggested me to return / exchange it, and Ralph did it. Everything was smooth and pleasant. The second (replacement) NTX1 had the same issue. I went straight to Xander, and he remembered me! I was impressed. Not only he confirmed the issue, he also walked the extra mile to help me find the solution. He also connected me with Brett, the store manager. Brett was very pleasant and super helpful. They let you try out the instruments and I had a lot of fun in the keyboard area testing out various brands of keyboards. They even have a studio where you can get lessons. The cashiers always help people on the side and then allow them to cut the line and complete their transaction thereby indirectly giving the middle finger to people waiting in line who have what they need and want to get out of there. Plain and simple help somebody locate something and then return to the big line that always forms because only 2 people only ever work the floor there and do business. And I didn't know what to expect. I don't play any instruments. My boyfriend on the other hand, does apparently? lol I guess he has a guitar somewhere, that I've never seen or heard him play lolol My boyfriend wanted to grab new stings for his guitar. We walked around looking at all the musical instruments and eventually found the stings he was wanting. This store is so big! Like they have a ton of guitars on the wall!!! This Guitar Center is better than many, and definitely better than the one in Hollywood. Not the original Guitar Center on the south side of Sunset, which is now gone, but the new one that is billed as Guitar Center's original location, which it isn't even, really. So this guitar center is a medium-sized store with a decent, though not spectacular, selection of guitars, amplifiers, microphones, and other music-related gear. The staff here is reasonably knowledgeable and helpful. Not Mother Theresa nice, or Einstein smart, but reasonable. The store itself is pretty nice, located in a plaza that bills itself as an outlet center, and indeed there are some outlet stores there, but this Guitar Center is not one of them. Parking is plentiful. The part not to like of this location is not Guitar Center's fault. That is, frequently the customers that patronize this store are not musicians, let alone serious musicians. Frequently entire families headed by parents in need of some skills training, will allow their kids to roam wild and uncontrolled through the store, picking up and abusing anything and everything they can get their hands on, with not supervision, or admonishment, by their parents. Often, there will be so many non-musicians and non-customers abusing the gear that actual cash or card-carrying customers cannot get access to the gear they are actually serious about buying. My advice: go here in the day-time, mid-week. That's your best bet. The parking is plentiful, but this isn't the safest neighborhood in O.C. The UCI Medical Center is nearby, as well as the district court-house, and so this area has not only the usual complement of lower-income residents, but random hospital escapees and court-attending ne'er do wells. Nothing an able-bodied musical patron can't handle, but something to be aware of. Definitely lock your car, be careful where you park, and be aware that this parking lot can become an after-hours attraction all its own, hosting parking-lot races and GTA thieves. Good for musicians. Bad for drivers. Keep the rubber side down, and rock on. read more

I'm posting this because I really like GC and I think they have a huge opportunity over any online place because of the amount of used gear they have access to. Here is my experience at this specific GC. On Father's Day 2025 I decided to go into this GC because I was in the area. Now this is a bad thing for me because I have no self control. I see something I like and I buy it. I got to the GC around 3ish and head over too the bass department. I noticed a bass that I haven't seen in any GC before. It's mini bass by flight. I had been wanting to try one and now I had my chance. After playing it I knew I would buy it. So I head over to the check out and I ask the an GC worker about the strings and what I should get in the flats department to put on it. He revers me to the tech guy. I then ask if he can do anything with the price and he basically said no. I asked if he could throw in some strings and again no. it had a few minor scratches from being on the floor for 4 weeks according to the GC worker. So I again tried to get just a little off the $429 price. Nothing. So I talked to the GC tech and then went and looked at strings for a few minutes thinking the guy would come around and offer me the 10% off they usually do. Even on entry level basses they have done this. But nothing. I left that place with no bass. Went home. Looked up the bass and paid $383 for it online . That's 10% off I believe. I'm not sure why this sales man decided that today he wasn't giving the standard 10% off but if this is the new trend for GC I can see them shutting down more stores than they have already done. read more

I frequent different Guitar Center locations when I have a day off work. It's how I like to unwind and treat myself. Sometimes I do more treating than others and walk out with a hole in my wallet. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I've been to many of these stores before and I'm no stranger to the fact that the service varies quite a bit. It can be dismissive staff, friendly staff, and downright rude staff. There are two locations that I will drive way out of my way for: Hollywood and Orange. Today I'll be talking about Orange (Hollywood coming soon). Being one of the smaller ones I didn't expect much to be honest. I walked in and started looking around at the Fender selection. I was greeted by staff pretty quickly and friendly. I made the decision to piss off my wife and buy yet another guitar. Ralph helped me out right away and aided me choosing. He made some suggestions of his own and helped immensely. He was extremely friendly, patient, an absolute rockstar (pun intended), and definitely the highlight of this location. So much that I'm actually planning another trip on my next two days off. I just hope I don't walk out poorer next time, although it's a very likely possibility! Also shoutout to the whole staff as well. They were incredibly professional all around. I wasn't even helped by them directly and yet I know that a dude named Spencer works there. He was helping people out so enthusiastically that I couldn't help but to know his name just from his interactions with others. Also the dude with the long hair (I'm sorry! I didn't catch your name!) was super friendly also. He wasn't even my sales person but definitely friendly regardless. I was here a few weeks ago. Second time. I went in to see if I could find stuff for my acoustic guitar. I walked in and took a look at the electrics and some of the used gear. Also Looked at some merch and music books. Nothing stood out to me so I went and looked for strings and possibly a capo and picks. Got the ones I needed and proceed to go make line. There was no one else in line so I'm right up front. one of the clerks was helping someone and there was another looking something up behind the computer. He grabbed what he was looking up and left. Didn't see me maybe? Another staff member comes near the desk and proceeds to grab something and also leaves. She didn't see me there either I guess. Now I'm almost 10 mins waiting in line kinds trying to wave someone down at this point. I see the guy that was originally behind the desk coming and just my luck, he turns and heads the other way! Now my only hope is the one guy helping the person with a million questions. He sees me but he's busy so Nothing. Waited over 10 mins. In line to just put my strings down and walk. Maybe I wore camo that day, not sure. I'll skip the strings at this particular GC. read more

I first need to start out by saying my husband went into the Guitar Center to purchase a turntable to play a new vinyl that I purchased for his birthday. As we were walking out , we met Katrina who helped sign my husband up for guitar lessons with Jake . Katrina was very knowledgeable & enthusiastic about taking lessons so that's why my husband signed up. Then we met the amazing Jake who has been working with my husband each week on learning how to play the guitar. They are incredibly supportive Jonathan , Jack ,Hanna & Spencer are truly amazing st the tie job here at The Guitar Centet in Orange . They are all very professional & they all know their products and also very knowledgeable about their work . You can tell they all enjoy working together. I am writing this review on behalf of a family member, who had a very disappointing experience with Guitar Center's lesson services. His instructor quit without any notification, and yet he was still charged for lessons he never received. When he tried to resolve the issue, the store manager, Brett, refused to provide a refund, citing that my family member should have notified them. This logic is completely flawed and demonstrates a lack of accountability and customer care on Guitar Center's part. Due to this incident, I will no longer be patronizing Guitar Center and recommend that others steer clear of this establishment as well. Chloe and Ana went above and beyond for me. April 4th: I go to buy a slaptop cajon and Chloe assists me. She is very friendly and helpful when the store doesn't have any new ones in stock (the only one in stock was the display, and it is kind of banged up). She orders one for me from a different store. April 8th: My order is ready and I wait at the curbside. An employee brings it to my car. I'm ecstatic. I go home and open it hours later. AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW? SHERMAN OAKS DECIDES TO SEND ME THEIR HORRIBLY-DAMAGED DISPLAY, DUST, SCRATCHES, AND STRAIGHT-UP BROKEN (pictures included). I'm outraged. This is terrible. The display at the Orange Guitar Center was in MUCH better condition than this pile of wood. I call this in. The unnamed employee says to bring it back in. April 9th: I go in, ready to throw some verbal hands. Chloe is there and she remembers me. She is appalled and what Sherman Oaks sent me. (TURNS OUT, THIS IS ALL SHERMAN OAK'S FAULT.) Ana is there, too, looking incredulous. They do everything they can to make it right and apologize 3893485 times. I know they're super apologetic, and it's not even their fault. I love them for trying to make things right. In the end, I got the color I wanted (which wasn't on sale), for a discounted price. Free shipping to my house directly from their warehouse, so we know it's not going to be damaged. April 12th: My beautiful slaptop cajon arrives to my house, undamaged and in perfect condition. If you wanna waste 4 hours of your time and leave the store with disappointment this is the perfect place for you, I found a guitar I took the guitar to the register and I told them i want this guitar and the person who was telling me he said ok wait here i need to bring the original case for the guitar and then he came back after a half an hour and said we can't find the case but we will give you a discount instead,then they went scanned the guitar and increased the guitar price $300 then the manager came he said if you want it take it with the higher price other wise if you don't want it just leave.I told the manager that i did not put this price on the guitar this was the price that was marked down on the guitar and he only wanted to give me $130 off for the original missing case.He said just take it or leave the store and he had a really bad attitude and he said it 4 times and he left,that is not a way to treat a customer.The managers name is Ralph he was very rude. read more

This place sucks, don't order from them, don't go there. I ordered multiple days ago, my order gets cancelled for "not verifying" but they never emailed me about it. I order again now they need me to call the verification with the phone attached to my card, I gave them all the info EXCEPT calling from that phone number because it was not possible. When I get home and use the phone, the verification is closed. WTF, why does it need all that verification and me to call from that phone number? Spencer is a terrible salesman. I came in looking for a crash ride cymbal and I asked if he had any. He then said, "I wouldn't know, I don't have a cymbals guy today, and if we do they're all hanging right there. He then tried to walk away and I had to pull him back for my next question. These guys like to pretend they're so busy, they're not. The customer always comes first. I found this cymbal an online at their store this morning. I want to add that GC is my go to for all of my gear needs. I have bought guitars, basses, synths. I have sold guitars and many gear in hopes the gear gets into the right hands. As I do buy used gear. I am not sure what has happened to the customer service at GC. All I can say is that, I felt like I was being helped by ignorant teenaged retail associates hanging out the kiosk of a hot topic, Than, the trained luthiers and experienced sound engineers/designers that I have come to know well at guitar center. This is probably one of the worst guitar center locations I have been to overall, and I have been to most locations in SoCal. Spencer left me on hold for almost 20 mins waiting for the guitar tech. At first I didn't mind waiting because I understand they can get busy at times. It turns out the guitar tech wasn't even in the store and was in the middle of their lunch. After reading other 1 star reviews here, I am no longer surprised that this happened specifically with Spencer who as also been called out in other reviews. Literally everyone at the store complains about being understaffed and seems to be taking out their stress and frustration on the customers. I came in yesterday as well and asked to see the tech and spoke to a young lady who was at the front. She rudely told me that the tech was already gone for the day so no one could help me. She also seemed upset and frustrated that I did not know the tech's name was Alex for some reason, which really doesn't make sense. Also, I asked the tech how much it would cost just to lower the action on a new guitar that I bought from guitar center and they said changing the action would constitute an entire set up so they would charge me around $65. That doesn't make any sense at all because every time I get my guitar set up I always ask them to leave my action alone. Therefore by guitar center's own definition they have not performed any setups on my guitars in years and should refund me the appropriate amount. A set up does not only include changing the action, so charging me the same price for one is ridiculous. If you call in to another store like fountain valley, you can see they they are probably just as busy, but at least their staff is patient and friendly and don't treat their customers in a terrible manner. If you are still reading this I highly recommend you check out other locations like Fountain Valley or Lake Forest. I can almost guarantee that you will have a significantly better customer service experience at either of those locations. read more

I kept trying to get some kind of help in an empty store and was ignored several times only to watch the employees immediately walk to the men who had just stepped into the store.
