First time plano player, this teacher really knew how to sit down with a beginner and make them feel comfortable when learning a new instrument, in this case a piano. He has fairly nice studio to practice the guitar, violin and the piano. His rates vary between the instrument you would like to practice. But I think its very reasonable. Edmund is a fantastic teacher!! I would recommend him to anyone who is interested in taking piano (or voice/guitar/violin) lessons. I started taking piano lessons with him shortly after I turned six years old (back in 2002) and continued until I was 18 (and left for college), so I'd like to think that I can speak honestly about how amazing Edmund is as a music teacher. He was extremely patient with and encouraging to me during lessons, even when I was facing a challenging piece that I wasn't sure I'd be able to play (and I was eventually able to play this under his instruction and many, many hours of practice). I had not always loved playing the piano (parents were very adamant that I learn--it was not something I had initially wanted to do), but I grew to love it over the years of lessons I had here. Looking back, I want to thank Edmund for being so, so, so patient with me. There were so many reasons for why he could have gotten frustrated with me during lessons (e.g., occasionally came in without practicing enough, really did not enjoy playing Mozart pieces when I was younger, etc.), but he was ALWAYS calm and understanding. The best part about having Edmund as your music teacher is that he works with you. As I said before, I hated playing Mozart when I was younger for some reason or another. Many other piano teachers would force you to do that anyway because Mozart's pieces are so iconic, but Edmund gave me different options and allowed me to play other composers' works, which made me so much happier and excited to play the piano. He always keeps in mind what the student wants and needs, and this is something that is so important when choosing a music instructor. I have seen Edmund work with all types of students throughout the years (different instruments, all sorts of ages, etc.), and he works well with everyone. He works with his students at each student's pace but also pushes them just enough so that they grow without feeling overwhelmed. SUMMARY - I highly recommend Music and Method. Edmund is an amazing and patient professional music instructor who works well with his students. I started taking piano lessons for the first time with Edmund about a year ago, at 27 years old. I had taken music lessons on different instruments as a child and through high school and college but had never received formal instruction on piano. I chose to begin lessons with Edmund based on the rave reviews I had seen on Yelp/Google and I'm happy to report that he lived up to the hype. Additionally, I found Edmund to be very affordable as compared to some of the other local music stores/studios that offer lessons. As mentioned in previous reviews, Edmund is patient and really does work to tailor each lesson to the needs of the individual students. I have seen him work with very young students who are just starting out, as well as with older kids and adults who are more advanced and his teaching style seems to transcend all age groups and skill levels. Having taken music lessons before I have had experiences with teachers who used a variety of tactics to keep students motivated, including fear. Edmund's teaching style is one of understanding and growth. He uses positive reinforcement and observation of student growth to keep students motivated to see how much progress can be made if they simply put the time in practicing. As an adult student, it is sometimes difficult to find the time to practice and his patience and positive reinforcement during those not so great lessons has been significant in keeping me motivated to grow as a musician. Additionally, as an adult student it can also sometimes be difficult to maintain a regularly scheduled lesson time due to last minute obligations. However, with advance notice, Edmund has always been accommodating and worked with my sometimes hectic schedule when it comes to rescheduling classes or scheduling make-up classes. I feel like the consistency of scheduling has been another factor in keeping me motivated to practice each week, knowing that I regularly have my lesson coming up. read more

My son has been learning piano for almost 6 years now. We used to change teachers a lot because of their availability and we are so glad we finally met Mr Edmund last year. I have to say Mr Edmund is the best among our experience in the past few years. He is very patient with kids, knows the proper way to teach them. Edmund is great and patient. I have 3 daughters who started taking lessons with him in 2012, they were 5, 7 and 9 at the time they started their lessons. My daughters advanced differently due to their age difference and Edmund patiently worked with each one of them based on her ability and dedication to her practice. My oldest daughter then started taking violin lesson with Edmund when she joined orchestra in 7th grade. I love that she was able to take piano and violin lesson from the same teacher, he teaches her how the 2 instruments compliment each other. My husband and I also took guitar lessons with Edmund for a year as well. Now my husband and my oldest daughter both play guitar in our church's fellowship. This review is long overdue. I went to Mr. Yu to learn to play the piano - I am still a beginner but not completely new to the instrument, since I took lessons as a child. He is a patient, methodical teacher who clearly teaching others to play as much as he loves playing himself. He was able to assess my level quickly and provide methodical instruction that allowed me to progress rapidly. He wants to be sure you understand what you're doing; he really cares about your learning. Even when I came without practicing, he was unbelievably patient and kind. Both my daughters took piano lessons with Edmund for many years. They didnt want to stop. To see their progress since that first day, when I sat on that couch listening to them for the first time, was just remarkable. He has so much patience and grace, like he's born to do this.
