It's a good place to shop for gear, but you need to look closely and have a decent knowledge of the gear you are seeking. Some examples, I recently looked at a Peavey 2x12 stereo chorus amp from the 1970's. The problem was that it was listed as that a 2x12... but it had been changed to a 1x12. This was apparently not caught when inspected and priced. Several times items are advertised as 1 model but are in reality another. Often the speaker size in amplifiers are wrong and the model of some guitars are incorrect. Take what's advertised with caution. Still, there are some good deals if you watch closely. read more

I've tried multiple times to try this place. HORRIBLE customer service. I drove over an hour and got there at 5:07 pm on Saturday. I asked Adam about selling some gear. He never moved off the stool. He seemed aggravated and said they stop buying gear an hour before closing. I explained about the drive. He asked what I had, and told me that people aren't buying the gear I was selling. Never even offered to look at it. I also asked about selling a Zoom R16 recorder. He said it would be cheap. Obviously didn't want to move off of his stool to even take a look. There wasn't a single person in line, and only a handful of folks in store looking around. Do yourself favor, and avoid this place and buy/sell your gear online from someone that appreciates your business. I didn't want cash. I would have either took an in store credit or just traded for drum gear, but I never was asked any of that. read more

I've spent tens of thousands of dollars here. Nothing but the best treatment from the staff. On the rate occasion I purchased an item with issues they always had no issue taking it back. That said, I took off a point because their return policy changed to store credit only. This makes me far less likely to shop here. Otherwise, this place is fantastic. read more

WORSE EXPERIENCE OF my life in customer service. These three guys not only said they had lives outside of this store. We got here 6:53 and they said that we had 7 minutes. TOTALLY disrespectful and turned the lights off on us. So I pulled the floor supervisor or whatever he was aside and he continued to tell me he had heart surgery ok what did that have to do with us looking at equipment. The third guy told us if we didn't like it we could go somewhere else and then gave us the finger going out the door. Firstly, I've been buying from Doug and company since they had two locations and this location was next to Chuck E Cheese further down Hurstbourne. I've spent thousands of dollars with this company and it's because they are a genuine local business. I've had nothing but good experiences. Even if I had something fail, they've ALWAYS fixed it, replaced it, or given my money back. It seems like some of the bad reviews are from folks that are entitled and when they don't get their way they want to write a bad review. That's pretty pathetic. I looked online for days for a Takamine 12 string guitar and stumbled across Music go round. They had the exact model I was looking for. Since it was a used model, I called them to ask about its condition. Jeremy was extremely helpful. He went and got the guitar so he could give me a first hand description and answer any questions. He told me it looked like a new guitar. The guitar didn't include a gig bag so I asked if they had a used one they could put it in for a few bucks extra. Jeremy said he'd see what he could do. Imagine my surprise when the guitar arrived in a brand new hardshell case for no extra charge!! When I opened the case I found what appeared to be a brand new guitar. The factory plastic wrap was still on the pickguard! I highly recommend a visit to Music go round either online or in person the next time you visit Louisville. read more

AA @Qmerry go roun I purchased a 2016 epiphone explorer bass from Music go round on Hurstbourne Parkway in Louisville Kentucky about 2 weeks ago. It looked literally brand new except For a ding On the headstock. It had some Fret buzz which I mentioned to the guy helping me. Keep in mind, I just moved to KY from Las Vegas and I was unfamiliar with their services. At the time of purchase when I mentioned the fret buzz, the guy helping me said he thought all it needed was a new Set of strings. He did not offer To sell me strings, put strings on it or tell me that they even had Guitar set up and Intonation services. So I took the bass to Guitar Center in Louisville Kentucky. Asked them to do a set up and put new strings on it. When it was completed and I went to pick it up the gentleman told me that he could not do a complete set up on it because there is a problem with the tongue? And/or the truss rod? and that he couldn't get it fully intonated because of a problem in the neck of the guitar where it attached to the body of the guitar. He recommended that I go back and get my money back from music go round. So I took the bass back And low and Behold I'm two or three davs past the return policy of 7 days . I Explain to them that they sold me something that was not in proper working order and I asked them if they set up all their guitars before them, if they had guitar intonation services there why wasn't this issue caught before they put the guitar on the floor. "leave it with us and we will have our guy look at it and set it up for you properly." Fast forward three days later when I have to call them to find out if it's done and they say yes, it's done come on down. I go back down I pick up the Bass and there's still fret buzz all over the thing. They tell me they did a complete set up on it and found no problems with it and it's perfect. I told him I'm not happy and I again ask them about implied warranty? In other words they sell me something that I assumed was in working order. In my opinion it's not, therefor under Kentucky state law they should give me my money back regardless of their return policy. They were unaware of this law. Some guy behind the counter who was not the guy helping me says to me very rudely, "that ain't Gonna happen man " then he says "your fingering the bass too hard, that's why it has fret buzz. Wrong again. This Bass cost me $800 at music go round Supposedly never played before and the fret buzz is normal according to them. Well, this week I also bought a $250 squire short scale bass from Guitar Center. Not only is it already a challenged instrument because it is a squire model but it's a short scale Bass to boot. There is zero fret buzz on this $249 bass anywhere on the neck compared to fret buzz all Over the $800 Explorer. So I said "hey man behind the counter you have a guitar that I like for $750 that prophecy Extura . I said to him I'll tell you what I'll give you this base back since you're saying it's perfect and you give me the guitar that I like that's $50 less than the base cost and I leave happy and you keep a customer. He told me that that was not going to happen And that the trading amount he would give me on the bass is $480. So clearly this guy is not an owner of the store or he would've probably practiced a lot better customer service. So now I will be Obtaining a copy of the attorney General's law on implied warranty and checking to see what my recourse is. Or hopefully somebody will see this that works there or owns the place and will make it right and keep me as a customer. One can only hope. I read more

Their products do not work. They sell them claiming they are in excellent condition but sell them broken. Many attempts to contact the company have been completely ignored by "wonderful" staff (that was sarcasm) that so KINDLY decided to ghost my band and I after claiming that what we spent our hard earned money came with no use. I am a professional musician (singer songwriter) - I live in a couple places, including now also in Louisville and come and go every few months, leaving a couple guitars in each location. Was sad to discover on my recent return trip to Louisville that the Martin road series I left here in 2020 was really whacked (fault totally my own- kids, humidify!!!). Anyway, I needed a basic six-string acoustic with amplification for some work i'm doing here but didnt want to break the bank as there is not much $ coming in obviously on the music side at the moment. I shopped at GC and their options were limited and also way too pricey for 2d hand; also they wouldnt give me much for my Martin (which was a decent mid-level guitar and could be repaired with some investment in it). I was told by a couple friends to check out MGR and was glad I did. They had a Taylor 114 CE (I think Taylor stopped making these a couple years ago so you can only get them used at this point) that was in excellent condition; played very sweet when I was test driving it at store and has played just as sweet every day since. I got a fair trade on my Martin too so all in only spent about 300 hundred and change for a very respectable performance worthy guitar - YAY. This past Saturday night I had a gig, and when I started to unload my equipment from my vehicle I discovered that the top tier of my keyboard stand had broken. Without it I would not be able to set-up or use my synth. I immediately called Music-Go-Round to see it they could help me and if they had something that would work for me. They said they did. BUT... the store was only open for another 15 minutes, and I was 20 minutes away. I told them this was an emergency, and could they please wait the extra 5 minutes for me to get there. I was promptly told "No, sorry." Seriously?! You can't stay open an extra 5-10 minutes to help out a local musician and make a sale? I had to drive all the way to St. Matthews, to GUITAR CENTER, where they were WONDERFUL help. They even helped me assemble the new stand together in the store so I wouldn't have to do it back at the gig. The only reason this review even has 1-star is that's the lowest I could pick. Shopping at Music Go Round was a negative experience in every way. It's horribly under staffed, and the people that do work are both rude and not at all knowledgeable or helpful.The store is a god awful mess, the used equipment is absolutely trashed and filthy (because the higher quality equipment is sold on-line) and prepare for very long wait times, especially if you are trying to sell or trade. To add insult to injury, don't expect to pay, or receive a fair price (or less than fair if you're willing) for anything. A monumental waste of time, but it's not difficult to understand how they survive with virtually no competition, while taking advantage of people only asking for fair and reasonable treatment. read more

This is a great, laid back music store. Locally owned. They have a wide variety of equipment in all price ranges. They have an awesome true sale twice a year on the Weds. before thanksgiving and around July 4th where the entire store is on sale and the older the stock number the larger the discount which helps them clear out old merchandise. The website is kept up-to-date and you can see most of their inventory. The sales force will let you play instruments and won't bother you if you just want to browse. I have sold them guitars and received a fair price considering the amount of work and pain of selling on ebay or Craigslist. read more

Awful, AWFUL store. I always take my business to Guitar Center. Employees are awful at this store, and that's what makes it so bad. I can't rag on the instruments too badly, as the store is only for used equipment. But it seems even on that note, that they'll literally take anything anyone brings in. But this is easily the worst store in Louisville just because of employees. Go to Guitar Center. The employees there are friendly, and will help in any way possible, and if they can't do anything, they will steer you in the right direction. read more

I have been buying things from this store for many years (even at the old location) and I have noticed a disturbing trend. The last 3 times I've been in there they have been quite understaffed, people were standing in line just to be waited on, and vocally complaining. On top of that, the staff has become quite surly. Very well pleased with MGR. I had been a Guitar Center,Sweetwater, Interstate Music and even E-Bay customer. A friend told me about Music Go Round so I thought I'd give it a go since I was looking to upgrade and add gear to my drums. So after the 45 give or take minute drive and consideration of shipping cost from elsewhere, was not sure what to think. I was surprised by the greeting though, made me glad I endured the trip After my inquiry of them purchasing various gear I let them look it over so we made a deal of trade and purchase. Things went so well that I have returned, traded and purchased more gear and saved. My daughter even bought an instrument. The venture was pleasant, the employee that assisted me knew what he was talking about and went, in my opinion out of his way to find what I was looking for and found even the color I wanted. I understand some people have had problems at MGR, not sure about Louisville's store since I've had only pleasant visits, I will return. read more

A very rare guitar was stolen from me and sold to this store. I've followed the legal process to get this guitar back. They would offer me no help at all when I initially called. After that I had not choice but go the legal route. They still won't provide information on who the guitar was sold to so something can be worked out. We have to subpoena them for this information. I've provided documentation proving it's mine, and they still won't. I hope no one ever has to deal with this store if a stolen item of yours is sold to them. So sad they're treating it this way. So here is a heads up to future customers. Most likely this will be deleted before it's even read, but at least I tried to warn others of this store. read more

I bit the bullet and drove the 30 minutes out to Hurstbourne to Music Go Round, bringing with me two small items to trade in toward the purchase of some new pedals. To be fair, an employee did let me know that it would "be a while" before someone would be available to help me, and that maybe I should come back later. "Nah," I decided, "I'll just stick it out," -- not eager to make the long drive again. I browsed their selection of effects pedals, while about 30 minutes passed. The customers in front of me filed slowly out, and when the last ones did, I made my way to the counter to see if I could finally get some service. The three employees were gathered around a smartphone, engaged in conversation about something that I'm sure was of utmost importance. I cleared my throat a few times before collecting my trade-ins, and leaving the now empty store unnoticed. Thank you for letting me know how little my business matters to you. I brought my Selmer Signet Cornet to Music Go Round who said they would trade the cornet for an intermediate clarinet. When I got to the store, the sales clerk told me the horn is only worth $90. This cornet is in great condition, and was worth considerably more than $90. I contacted a professional trumpet player who told me that the Selmer Signet cornets "were pretty good horns ... worth around $500." Music Go Round obviously doesn't know instruments. This is my second visit to this store. The first was to buy a clarinet. They let me handle many clarinets, but they couldn't tell me anything about any of the instruments. Ultimately, I bought a very good clarinet from a clarinet specialty shop. Don't waste your time at Music Go Round. They're staff is ignorant about instruments AND their worth. Go to Miles Ahead Music or Mel Owens Music. I've dealt with both of them and they are very knowledgeable about all musical instruments. As soon as you walk in, turn about face and run. Don't buy anything from them. They are overpriced and don't know anything about the items they sell read more

Went to go pay for a bass that had a $400 price tag and the dude changed the price to $2000 when he rang it up. Argued with the dude for 5 minutes that it was false advertisement and he said whatever and walked away. Hope these guys get sued for falsely advertising their stuff! read more
