I was not welcome and should leave because he was not going to look up. I asked if they did guitar lessons and again the guy hesitates and does not look up . He says "No not really." But they do over 375 a week on a good week of lessons I was informed. That was nice to know as I was looking for a market that needed a friendly music environment and this sure seems like one! Maybe it was a bad day but the 375 students were not there only me so I feel this rating is appropriate especially seeing it looks common in other rating.

We rented an alto sax and the nicest guy ever explained what my son would need. When you rent an instrument for the school year, you pay in full up front. The guy made it clear that you won't pay a penalty if it's past the May deadline because schools have end of the year concerts etc. Near the end of the year we got a card in the mail telling us if we paid for next years rental we could keep the instrument over the summer for free. We did that. Also, a rental includes a yearly "tune up". While the sax was in the shop, our son announced he needed it TODAY for school. Of course. I called the store and talked to the woman who was repairing it. "Oh I'm working on it now, I could have it for you in 20 mins." Perfect

House of Note recently restored my late Grandmother's 140+ year-old violin and did an excellent…read morejob. It came out much better than I ever thought it could. A small crack was repaired, bridge and tailpiece replaced, new strings, some rough and chipped wood cleaned up, and the varnish was cleaned and restored. It looks and sounds 100% better, but still has the look and feel of an old instrument. Technician Ty did the repairs and worked with me to hold the costs down and restore this precious family instrument. All costs were explained up-front and everything was clear. Plus it was done the exact day when promised. I'm very happy with the work and service. THANK YOU!

My cello was "born" in 1970 in West Germany. I've had it for over 20 years and it has been through…read moreeverything with me! My cello is a real workhorse and I've played gigs all over the country including many places outside: the beach, farms, orchards, gardens.. I even did a wedding in drizzling rain where I had to walk a quarter mile through the forest without my case. So naturally it has gotten a bit dinged up along the way. It has always played good and although I knew eventually I should take it into a shop, I was never able to afford to until very recently. I came to House of Note with my concerns: some new cracks, the neck was all messed up, the wood needed to be cleaned and conditioned, my fine tuners were so full of rosin I could barely use them, new strings, and my bow needed TLC. Everyone was super helpful at the shop and over the phone. It took about a week and $900 later (totally reasonable considering all that they did and how much work it needed), my cello looks and sounds better than ever!! They even helped me fix an issue with my case so that I didn't need to purchase a new one. I'm new to Minnesota and am going to begin teaching again. Although it is about a 45 minute drive for me, and probably over an hour for my new students, I am definitely going to send them here. Highly recommended for all your string instrument needs!

I checked out Groth Music because I love music and this is a music store. It also is a Minnesota…read moreinstitution. I wanted to meet cool employees, have great conversations about music, and honestly, I wanted to buy something. I have a lot of money (well, not really) and I am genuinely in the market for... music stuff. Groth Music has guitars, but guitar is not its primary focus. Instead, Groth is the spot to go to when you want to find sheet music. I think there's still a lot of value in this despite e-commerce. A lot of times, the quality of sheet music isn't clear, especially for pop music. It's very useful to be able to look at the pages for yourself. I'm rating Groth 3 stars because no employee felt like greeting me. I was especially disappointed that the guy in the guitar section simply sat at his desk without even trying to engage me at all. He semi-grumpily said "let me know if you have any questions." I genuinely could've bought something, even a guitar, if he took the second to chat with me like many local music shop workers often do. Instead, I got Guitar Center-level service.
