This Music Go Round is always a place I check first for any used equipment. Flash back to Spring of 2025. I was looking to buy my first ever Larrivee guitar. They had one listed but by the time I got there it had been sold that morning. Sigh... Anyway I thought I would look around. They have two acoustic guitar rooms. First room had lots of Taylors, Martins, Gibson, etc., but wasn't impressed by the "playability" and the costs were a bit spendy. The "other" room had all kinds of violins, cellos, and a few acoustic guitars. And there hung a Larrivee LV-05 with crusty strings and looked like it had never been played much. I brought some testing equipment with me. A lighted mirror that fit through the sound hole to check for any cracks or loose bracing, 24 inch straight edge to check the fretboard against the height of the bridge. The finish was a beautiful glossy mahogany back and sides with a spruce top. Had a clear pick guard so the nearly 25 year old patina really showed through. Anyway, I bought it on the spot. Turns out the deal included the original Larrivee case also in excellent condition. After the sale I was presented with a 100 dollar gift card to be used in the store. Bought a nice looper with that. Now, I am looking for a steel string parlor type guitar with 12 frets to the body and a slotted headstock. read more

Went in to try to sell a 1969 rare Yamaha solid state amp (A TA-30... with real spring reverb in a 1.5 foot enclosure for a real lush sound, very cool optical tremolo built in, and a rare flat styrofoam trapezoidal speaker that doesn't distort when cranked). This thing is an amazing pedal platform and was big with 70s jazz artists and psychedelic artists. Was any of that information asked for? No? After about 4 minutes of searching, the guy whose chin looks like a minnow's with the faintest of caterpillars on his lip said he could give me $150. This amp had just been valued by a much more well known shop for $700. He told me take it or leave it. I felt so dismissed and what sucks is that I've done $1000s of dollars of business there. I bought my first bass there in 1996 and have probably been in the store to browse, buy, and sell every month since then. If you're looking to sell or consign, go elsewhere because they'll only give you 20% of what it's worth. There's a Pleasure Trem 5000 in the case they're selling for $230, and it used to be mine... The older gentleman that helped me was very unhelpful and terse, the tech was OK and personable enough but when I bought a $2500 guitar, they forgot to set up my rewards for that purchase and the gentleman that rang me out told me afterwards after my credit card had been run, that I couldn't do a return because my sale involved a $200 trade-in. Now I don't plan on returning the guitar, but that's not the point you don't tell somebody that after they make a purchase you tell them before you let them know what your rules are before you process the transaction. Doing businesses like this is not ethical or upfront. You say "before I ring this out I wanna let you know because your transaction involves a trade-in you're not allowed to do a return. Are you OK with me proceeding?" That's how you run an ethical business. I also saw the guitar I purchased online at a different music store for less and was wondering if they had any wiggle room in the price and they said no, which was reasonable, but it seemed like the person making the decisions was very unwilling to negotiate to make a sale. This is such an awesome music store! It is huge with an inventory that can take over an hour to browse through. They have a lot of second hand instruments that are in good shape! I go in frequently to check out their huge selection of used guitars and pickups. They also carry various parts and accessories for when I'm testing out mods. The staff is always helpful and knowledgeable. Trade-in values have been fair, and their prices on used equipment make them my preferred choice over Reverb or eBay. read more

My son saw the negative reviews and thought we shouldn't go to the store, but I encouraged him we should try it out for ourselves before coming to a conclusion. I called ahead and asked if they had saxophone straps and care kits. The person answered on the second ring, was very helpful and courteous, and double checked the products were in stock. I've been going here for many years. I have always been treated fairly with the items I have purchased... Multiple guitars, a couple amps, keyboard and accessories. The staff has always been friendly and have answered my questions as needed. They do a LOT of business and the stock is always changing so they are obviously doing something right. read more

Everyone in this location has a chip on their shoulder. Read the reviews. It is clear what your going to get before you walk through the door. Especially the 'manager' or employee with green hair. The store would probably turn a better margin if the employees actually knew how to buy and sell product geared towards the satisfaction of their customers. Used shops always used to be run by the best staff, they generally knew an answer to whatever questions you might have. This place is all kids, and if you ask a question they don't know, they don't tell you who might have an answer, they just say "I don't know" and walk away. I've been going there since they opened, and it gets a little worse every year. The other locations are a little better than here, but even those shops are losing all the good staff. I'm not sure if the shops are all starting to go under, and they just won't pay people what they deserve, but it's really not worth the effort to find out. I was out driving around one day and saw a "Musical Instruments Store" I had not seen before. So I thought I'd stop, to my Surprise they had 2 things I had been looking for, for quite some time: a Vox Speaker Cabinet & a 60s "Polaris" Yellow Sparkle Drum Kit, just like my Dad used to play (not long after he subbed with the Trashmen) So I started talking to the Staff and found Vic to be uncannily humorous and you can not find a nicer guy than Pat. went to sell powered PA speakers, very good condition. 2 way with 12 in. spkrs /horn 2 channels eq, line out, rca inputs for audio devices. mount on a stand capable was offered $25.00 a speaker. 50 pair. the same used speaker advertised online on multiple websites. same exact used speaker (1)is advertised today at guitar center Roseville, MN. for 159.99. get your calculator. $25 dollars is appx 15.63% of 159.99. the website states an offer on fair market value. 15.63% is nowhere close to fair market value. a 80 dollar offer per speaker would be 50% and 50% profit for them. I found guitar i was looking for on music go round online. Website stated great condition. I called music store just to make sure, asking specific questions. My first question was a about frets condition. Salesperson told me that frets are fine. I ordered guitar paying for shipment. Guitar arrived with deep groves on first 5 frets and very high action and buzzing. Immediately i sent email to music store. They response....sorry that you dont like guitar sent it back to us. Shipping cost me $140(both ways ) money that i never got back.....i am very disappointed for wasted time and money.....i did my homework: i red item description(inaccurate), called music store , and salesperson hold guitar in his hands and gave me ( another inaccurate )description. ...will never, ever buy from them again ..... read more

about $4000 worth of music gear was stolen from my studio and sold to this Music Go Round. they sold the majority of it, and were incredibly difficult to deal with when trying to sort this out. the thief actually went into the store again after i had called Music Go Round and confirmed with them that they had my stolen gear, and they didn't do anything about it, knowing that it was him. when i asked why they didn't call the police the manager told me they were too busy. it took them about a week and a half for the manager to contact the police so that i could retain my stolen gear that hadn't yet been sold. in the end, they made money off of my stolen gear and i lost a bunch of my personal property. they didn't take down serial numbers of my gear or even think to question the suspiciousness of someone selling them $4000 worth of gear. read more

This location is very dishonest. They sold me something they knew I wouldn't be able to use, even when I asked specific questions about whether it would work with my system. The manager at this location is a complete jerk! Very unprofessional, sarcastic and condescending - and I've had more than one experience with him where he's been this way, so I know it can't be attributed to him having a bad day. This location is horrible. Don't shop here, unless you want to be lied to and treated very poorly. Be very careful before you purchase equipment at this store. Purchased a guitar that couldn't have the intonation set correctly since the saddle was up against the bar. Went to return next day and had to pay a 10% restocking fee on an $1100 guitar. They said they could send it out for repair but couldn't tell me exactly how they were going to accomplish this. Didn't want to take the chance on it not being done correctly. Since it was a one year old guitar it obviously came from the manufacturer in that condition. Don't believe their website that states "This item has been tested and is 100% functional". The item was immediately returned to sales floor without being repaired and relisted on website. Purchased an item from this store (store B) and could not use it until an item from another music go round sent a missing power chord. Contacted the store to ask to return the item when I tried out the item from store A, within 48 hours, that I wanted to return. The Roseville store would not accept the reasoning why I wanted to return the item when I couldn't try or test it until after their 48 hour window. This is the worst customer service when they can't accept special circumstances whether their policy states it or not. I would not recommend doing any business with Music go Round Roseville MN!!! Staff is unfriendly. Bought an amp there in 2015 they kept the footswitch. Then they gave me a defective one after I came back and demanded one. I have been there countless times over the last 15x years with $$$ in my pocket. The vibe is so lame I just leave and order from Sweetwater. Shops don't realize if they want to survive they have to be friendly and have sales skills. Last but not least completely over priced used gear and they won't budge on anything. Great amp selection but the guitar selection is crap starter stuff. Acoustics about the same. What makes the music go round? The customers kids! read more

This store and the store in Burnsville are the only music stores I recommend to anyone. They always treat you fairly and are extremely knowledgeable. I was a happy customer when it was called Hi-Tec Consignment decades ago. Their Burnsville and Roseville Music Go Round stores are candy shops for any musician. They usually have something interesting that I didn't know I needed until I found it there. Prices are fair. ( they have to make a living too) I've purchased 75% of my gear there. I live in Florida. I purchased a Roland 76 key controller for $169'99 and shipping total cost $229.99. I wanted to Midi the Roland out to my Korg Kronos 61 key Midi in for the Kronos combination mode. When I got it I spent all day to get it to work right. It will worked some what on the Kronos Poly mode, but the combination mode it was changing to program within the Kronos combination mode. I read the manual on my computer and did what it says. still nothing was working right. I was frustrated. I have a friend and he has one for many years, he came over and he couldn't figure it out. he said there is something wrong with it. I have worked with midi keyboards ever since they came out with midi. I call Music go Round and told them. I sent it back to them and it cost me $108.00 to ship it. When they got it, they told me it was working fine. I know I was lied too. They refund my money for the Roland controller, but I lost $168.00 from all the shipping from me to them. I Got Ripped Off and that Pisses me Off, it makes me Sick and why they want to treat me and customers this way. Go to Hell Music Go Round. Since I live in Florida there is nothing I can do except Complaint to the BBB and write bad reviews everywhere. I will never buy anything from any Music Go Round again. There was an Epiphone ES 175 for sale and in the Craigslist ad it said to call. "We remove all items when sold but call to be sure". So I called on Friday, because Roseville is far, far away from me! So when I called, I was told "if it was still online, it would be in the shop". So when I went there it was NOT in the shop, nor even for sale anymore!?! WTF!
