The first one wouldn't even get a guitar down for me, so, frustrated, I drove here. I had a budget and was ready to buy a Telecaster. Jack talked me through my options and gave me an extensive breakdown of the Fender line. I explained what I was looking for, and it came down to a $1,400 used Ultra Tele or a $700 Player II. Jack gave me the pros and cons of both, and I decided on the Player II. I freaking love this guitar. It's exactly what I wanted, and it's the second guitar I've bought from this location this year. Also, a shout-out to John--he's always great on the phone and helpful on the floor. Thank you too the staff here for keeping my hope in Guitar Center alive.

Went back to pick it up, didn't really need to strum it - one look told me it was set up properly. Paid the gent (pretty nominal fee BTW), took it home...massive difference in playability. The store in Palm Desert Ca. is very small but considering the smaller music scene here does it need to be bigger? They pretty much cover all the bases with a little bit of everything and adequate stock of the every day essentials such as strings, cords, pics and doodads. The staff has always been welcoming, friendly and the "appropriate amount" of helpful in that they ask if you need help and if you say no or just looking they leave you alone. But they are always right there if you do ask for assistance or information. Seeing some of the reviews stating "no body to help" or "I was ignored" makes me wonder because I visit frequently and have never found that to be the case. I've made two sister store purchases shipped to the Palm Desert store and everything went smoothly. One guitar I decided I didn't like and was able to return no hassle-no questions asked. I know that is store policy but I've never had to do that before so was pleased they are true to their word. Only disappointment I've had in the 6 years since moving to the area was I needed some string tree retainers for a Strat I bought off CL and though the website said they were in store stock, they weren't. And I can say that was my bad for not actually calling and confirming first. But the location is only 10 miles from me so no biggie.

Now I'm getting up there in years and bequeathed these magnificent beauties (both with sounds that far surpass a Martin) to a young guitarist who lives next door. My friend visited Jim and the guys at the Guitar Shoppe to get appraisals and I guess when the guys opened the cases all work at the Shoppe came to a halt although they knew Kirk's work and attention to detail still these guitars well deserve the awe that was expressed as to the level of Kirk's craftsmanship. The guitars appraised well, which surprised my friend but wasn't much of a surprise to me at all. This was my first time using the shop, and I was really looking forward to it, especially after…read morehearing so many positive reviews. I brought in my Taylor K24ce, and I also left my Taylor GS Mini that day for a neck reset. At drop-off, the front desk tech assured me the low E buzz on the K24ce would be addressed and handled as part of the standard setup. Both guitars stayed with them for nearly two weeks. I called a few times since I wasn't getting updates, and eventually was told both were ready for pickup. After driving 30 miles, I tested them in the shop. The GS Mini was done well--I could see an improvement in the neck, and I appreciated that. But when I took out my K24ce, it wasn't tuned or wiped down properly. After I tuned it, the exact same low E buzz was still there. How could that go unnoticed, I wondered--had the guitar been played after it was tuned, they would have then noticed the buzz and should have informed me by email, rather than having me come all the way down. I mentioned it to the owner, and he took the guitar to the back for about 10 minutes. When he returned, he told me that if I wanted to leave it, I'd need to pay another $90 for a deeper inspection, since it might be a more technical issue. The tech who reassured me at drop-off was right there but didn't say a word. It was close to the end of working hours, so I figured James would just have me leave it at no cost. When he didn't, I didn't feel comfortable leaving it again. I really expected a more thorough check right then or at least a suggestion to leave it at no cost. After all, I 100% mentioned the buzz to the tech at drop-off. In the end, my K24ce is my primary instrument--it's the one I rely on most--while the GS Mini is just a backup. I ended up paying close to $400 for both the setup and the neck reset. The GS Mini was done well, but the whole experience left me feeling like I spent $400 just to fix a $600 GS Mini, while my main guitar's issue was never resolved. Considering all the time, effort, cost, and travel, I really expected a full assessment and clearer communication before it was marked complete. This place has a great selection of records covering wide range of genres for such a small place…read more It doesn't sell much merchandise other than some stickers and posters, but makes up for it with its selection of vinyl records and 45s. It has numerous categories, but I just focused on my favorite ones - punk, 80s, alternative, and rock. I didn't buy anything today because I didn't want to walk around the area with bunch of records, but I already have an idea of few records I want to buy next time I'm here (assuming someone doesn't buy them).
