Is this store owned by or affiliated with the Rhino Records label? I don't know. It would seem so. It doesn't really matter. This is a an excellent shop. You walk in and vinyl, some merch, cassettes, and books are to the right and CDs, DVDs and posters are to to the left. The vinyl selection is very nice. Don't sleep on the books. They are excellent. Do people actually buy cassettes? I don't think I want to meet those people, no oiffense. The CD collection was bigger and better than I expected. They have both new and used CDs. The prices on the used CDs were reasonable. Music will be playing during your visit and it will probably be good music (on vinyl, of course). The store is spotless and the workers were very friendly and helpful. The vibe here is very good. If I lived closer, I would come here a lot and I would buy a lot. Free and easy parking in the lot. In this day and age, records are not practical anymore and stores are scarce, but Rhino is still around and they make it feel cool again to physically see vinyl, and CDs in person. This place gives a slight feel of Tower Records, Sam Goodies, etc. just like it did 30 years ago. Prices are a bit steep, but vinyl is back because kids right now seem to think they are cool. Rhino has a wide selection of albums, singles, and EPs of all genres, including special editions and imports. Probably everything you are looking for might be here. Or if you're like me you'll find stuff you didn't know you wanted. Another cool thing is finding used records for cheap, or on sale. They also have books, posters, and all other goods sold at record stores like back in the day. The staff is also pretty knowledgeable on your music needs, and overall it's just a nostalgic experience coming here. Can't wait to listen to my vinyl now! read more

Awesome place. Actually glad it's in the current location as I could never really get comfortable trying to fight the traffic in Claremont. But I stopped in to see if they had a CD that I had been looking for over a couple of years. I like to burn the files to MP3 for my cell music player. They had it but it was used and a fraction of the cost I expected to pay. Used but in nearly mint condition. I say nearly because I inspected it in the car before loading it into the stereo. No magnifying glass but I didn't see any defects and it played perfectly. I returned a week later to see if they had another in stock but ended up buying about 5 CDs, all perfect shape. Heck, saving a lot of money and the people workers there are very cool and helpful. read more

Located not to far from Montclair plaza in a strip mall, Rhino records has a good selection of dvds and blu rays with an even better selection of records. The staff was friendly upon arrival and at check out. We went on a whim and closed out the store. They have decent prices and their bargain selection is well worth it. Found more items on the $1 table of what I was looking for. Defiantly worth the drive to check them out if you're a media collector. read more

This store is terrible, the selection is just terrible. If you're very invested in collecting and take it serious, don't waste your time here. It was my first time going to the new location and it was actually depressing to compare it to the old one. The old one actually had selection, and you could spend time digging for records. Not anymore. And the workers are so rude and follow you around like you're going to steal something. There's nothing worth stealing. What a mess this place has become! The staff are horrible. They think they are Rock stars or something. The ZZ Top looking old dude is beyond rude. He just stands around and tries to hit on the girls that work there. Watched it happen today. There were customers needing help and he's just spaced out totally stoned. Lol. Won't spend anymore money there for sure. Over priced also. $22 for used cd's is a joke. Also, watched someone try to sell used vinyl and the guy sent him away saying he had a few customers ahead of him and it would be a long time before he could get to him and just come back another day. There was such a large selection of records at this shop. I've been to some vinyl stores in the past, but this one was definitely much more organized than others I've seen. They had everything sorted by genre which made it easier to find specific titles. There was a wide variety of cassette tapes, DVDs, and VHS tapes as well. so there's definitely something for everyone. I even saw some board games and books displayed on the shelf to appeal to different interests. I also found that the prices were at or below retail, which was a pleasant surprise. They even had multiple clearance sections where you could get two items for $5 which was great. It was a bit busy when I went, but all of the workers seemed very approachable and open to answering any questions. Their new Montclair location has plenty of parking since it's located in a smaller plaza away from the main roads. This place is definitely a hidden gem. Overall, I really enjoyed coming to this record store and I'll definitely check it out again if I'm ever back in the area! read more

They have a good selection however the price is higher than other places. Besides the point, I came in for a vinyl and since artists produce them in multiple colors, I asked the cashier if the one I'm purchasing is black, he said yes because if it was colored there would be a sticker. Came home and discovered that the vinyl is yellow instead. I called to ask if there's anyway to return it since I wanted a black version. The same guy that helped me out answered on the phone said "what we have is what we have, there's no way of telling if it's colored or black" What in the gaslighting? Man literally said at the counter that it's black since there was no sticker. Anyway I was offered to do an exchange for something else in store. The same vinyl was on Amazon for $30, I got it at $38 from their store because they said it was black. If I had known it was the same color as the one Amazon has I would've never made the purchase in the first place. read more

What a fantastic store Visited Rhino during the Thanksgiving weekend and they made it very hard to stay within the budget I set before walking through the doors. They have a fantastic selection of new and used vinyl (as well as CD's, movies, t shirts etc). What I like most about this spot besides outstanding selection is that the prices are fair. Everything I got checked out to comparable with Discogs (and I am very mindful of the fact that stores need to pay employees rent etc when looking at sales price). They always have something I **didn't** know I was looking for on vinyl- from an obscure used album to a live recording of a favorite band, plus harder-to-find vinyl by certain bands that other stores never seem to carry. Red Hot Chili Peppers? Pink Floyd? Pearl Jam? Rhino's always got 'em! The store is bright, clean and spacious. Management is incredibly helpful to all patrons. Throwback to a time simpler time when the discovery of the B Side meant something. It has been decades since I sought after my first Weird Al and Dr. Demento compilation record and tapes, but this place brings back some fond memories. The used record selections here are good, and the variety of musical items is impressively available in one place. my 4 stars is for my overall experience and history with the store since the mid 80's. i'm glad rhino is still around and now in montclair and i personally never had bad experiences with the rhino staff (except 1 issue which was outside the store) but i've seen some serious s**t go down with one employee (who may or may not still be there) on multiple occasions directed at other store employees. i'm not going to trash the store but i would say that the crew from the 80's thru the early 00's were more communicative. since 2010-ish the crew seems less interested in helping you (generally speaking of course) such as "the big guy" there. sometimes i would ask a question and the answer would be only a few words and that was it, back behind the counter and you become invisible. another time i asked him about the old rhino shirts after they moved and he walked away. selection has always been better than most but in TODAY'S store climate media isn't as available as it used to be. usually if ANY store doesn't have it they have to order it. overall just about any music store is going to have an elitist / arrogant crew in some form. its always been like that and it will always be. but in a time were invisible / soulless online sales dominate with one click, stores should realize that customer service matters today more than ever. read more

Rhino Records has really made an effort to nose its way closer to the tip top of my list of preferred record stores. I have always been an off and on fan of the store that boasts the most proboscis. I would like to explain why poking one's snout into Rhino is probably going to be a better and better ideas as time elapses. Rhino has stepped up its used record offerings. There is a whole section that the staff keeps stocked from Warner Bros. records inventory and whatever the store buys from local sellers. The used records are reasonably priced and plenty of relatively tough to spot singles can be found. I have picked up a few quasi elusive singles here. The 45 section needs to be sung about too. Lots of top shelf 45s to be found. Rhino might have one of the better 45 sections I can recall. For one, the section is actually organized, and the staff appears to gave done some due diligence to include only the highest graded and more desirable 45s. I believe they even have a category just for rare 45s. The employees at Rhino have always been friendly and/or polite to me. This is definitely a plus for Rhino because record stores sometimes attract applicants people who look like they're trying too hard to audition for the next Kevin Smith flick. I would not say that the staff is impressive here, but I don't imagine the wages for working at Rhino are much of a motivator. The staff at Rhino loves music and does its best to help records find their forever turntables. Although I have more or less limned the praise of the odd toed ungulate, I hazard Rhino could be a tad more generous when buying records. Sometimes I have been given some real lowball offers for a record or two I've brought in. I realize anyone can sell/trade elsewhere; thought I would post that Rhino may not be the ideal location to sell a record collection. Look elsewhere for fairer or trades or for getting more for selling a collection. Do go to Rhino for used records, 45s, and any needed new vinyl or reissues. The inventory at Rhino is what makes it stand out like a spiky snout. Thanks Rhino for always upping your game. read more

I'm glad Rhino Records is still around, it's a cool record store that's been in Claremont since 1976! They sell a bit of everything: CDs, books, vinyl and other merchandise. The store is big, the selection is just OK, prices a tad high. Customer service could be better, we're actually in line for so long (just one person ahead) that we gave up buying the CD we found. There was another customer service person behind the counter but he didn't do anything, just stood there. Otherwise, if you're in the area, like music, check out the store. Great record/CD/DVD store. music is arranged by genre, so you don't waste time looking at things you have no interest in. they also sell books, turntables and accessories. prices are generally very reasonable. they also have a frequent buyer program where you earn points for each purchase and redeem them once you reach a set level. my only complaints: they don't pay very well if you are trading in used items, and they are closed on Monday. all in all a very good little shop. read more

This is our first time coming to this location. I don't love it, to be honest. It fit much better in the village and it was way more convenient so we went more often. They have a lot less of the fun kitschy gift stuff. In fact, they have hardly any at all. And, something I really don't understand... like the old location, this one gets hot and stuffy, too. Even on days where it really shouldn't be. They need to circulate air! The best is when they have their $1 sale. You really can't beat that. Vinyl, CDs & DVDs that were priced at $2.99 are all $1 during this sale. There's a big mish-mash of stuff, but you can definitely find some gems. They have a decent selection of hard to find and collectible albums. Definitely call if there's something specific that you're looking for. read more
