They kept all of our guests (Indian and non-Indian) dancing for the entirety of each event, beginning with Friday morning's Haldi and ending with the Saturday night reception. He also spent a lot of time with us on the phone in advance of the wedding to make sure he played everything we wanted, when we wanted it. My wife and I were planning an Indian wedding and those of you who aren't aware, it entails multiple events across several days. We were looking for a DJ for Sangeet night and for the reception. I love music, so I took on the responsibility to finding the DJ for our events. Our wedding festivities was over Labor Day weekend, so I started my research quite early knowing many DJs will be booked for the long weekend. I must have reached out to over 10+ DJs to compare quotes/services/reviews etc. Some I found on Yelp, some through WOM, some through online search, all of the above. After several conversations with several DJs, I got the lay of the land - DJs not only provide music but also can help with other services such as lighting, custom logos, fog effect etc. Once we narrowed down what services we wanted and didn't want, it was time to narrow down the DJs, which was quite tough to be honest. Solely going off reviews for a service that can make or break the event(s) can be nerve-racking. A lot of the DJs I came across primarily focused on Punjabi and Bhangra, which are fantastic, but we primarily wanted someone whose specialty is top 40/hip hop and Bollywood. I first met Raj at the venue where we were supposed to have our reception. From the get go, he seemed very professional, kind and courteous. He also happened to be available on the dates we needed him. Soon after, I e-mailed him explaining everything that we're looking for, type of music, budget etc. Raj was prompt in his response. We even got on the phone and he was honest and respectful of our wishes while making recommendations without overselling things/services we didn't need. Best part, he focused primarily on top 40/Bollywood! He stood out not only because of his professionalism, but his reviews and my interaction with him gave me the confidence that he'd be the perfect fit for both our events. Within a week, we decided to go with him for both our events. Raj arrived in a timely fashion to make sure everything was setup properly at both our venues and let me just say, the crowd was on their feet the entire night! Raj and his crew went above and beyond! I was communicating with him via text to coordinate our entrance/songs. We worked with Mrunal for our wedding on October 13 in Santa Cruz. This was no simple event, since it included a Baraat, an outdoor Hindu Ceremony, a cocktail hour, an outdoor Secular Ceremony, another cocktail hour, and then dinner, speeches, and of course dance floor (first dance, Bollywood performance, and couple exit), and a few more things... Mrunal was great in guiding us with planning the entire day. He joined us at the venue a month before the event to check out the different locations, and also the existing sound system that could be reused or that needed to be augmented. He was very detailed oriented and helpful in giving us options to achieve our event goals. The timelines were very tight, there were many events packed back to back, with audio and video system needed. So it was quite complex, but Mrunal planned it very well and communicated with us and other vendors perfectly! Raj and his partners DJ'd and provided equipment for a couple of events as a part of my Wedding, including the baraat, ceremony, and the main reception. They did an outstanding job in every aspect at a very reasonable prices. Given that this was a multi-cultural affair (Cuban/Jewish/Indian), Raj did a superb job in understanding my needs for a wide genre of music (Spanish lounge, American oldies, Top 40, 90s hip hop and R&B) and even found some very specific songs I wanted to play during some key parts of the celebrations. He excelled at mixing and keeping the crowd going throughout the day, with just the right balance to keep things hyped but not annoying. In terms of service, his entire team was super organized, showed up early to both events and were very responsive starting a year prior when we first got in touch, exceeding all of our expectations. My friends and I Hired them to play an event. After reviewing their FB page, I found out they play the same mix at multiple events. Made our bride cry. When he was approached by reasonable people to find out why he shut down an hour early, instead of offering an explanation, his response was literally " you need to [expletive] off". Insanely unprofessional. Would sooner throw on an Internet playlist then hire them for anything. Would give fewer stars if possible. Seriously, do yourself a favor and hire a real professional, not a prerecorded hack with a complex. Also, please note that there are 7 "removed" reviews all with one star. THEY ARE NOT A 5 STAR OPERATION. Save yourself and your event and hire someone else In response to that less than eloquent reply (although why I'm giving you such cadence, I don't know) As to influx of negative posts: I can't really speak on them, as I haven't seen them because they were flagged. I don't know those review writers, or their grievances. Now, I'm no DJ, but I know DJs. Usually when there's an influx of bad reviews, it's because you're no longer impressing people. The only thing I'm looking to accomplish by writing my review is to educate anyone who may turn to Yelp as a guide stone of decision making. *the person that you deal with face to face isn't necessarily the only consumer in that transaction. Money from sources other than the people you met were tied up in that transaction. If I (or anyone, for that matter) choose to incorporate money for someone to hire a (6th choice) DJ, that's my prerogative (unorthodox as it may be). It also, by proxy, makes me a consumer. Leading me to my next point; If a grievance with fulfilling a job you were paid to do arises, it is your duty as a business to articulate the problem. Your representatives were approached about it and all inquiring parties including the parties that did the actual hiring, were told to "eff off" (without the verbal clean-up inserted for the benefit of Yelp). That's not only Crass and trashy, but HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL. If your business is generated by word of mouth, you should probably make sure a room full of potential clients, and word-spreaders don't hear you cussing out a bride on her wedding. *i should note that I'm only making the assumption that your collective pre-records because the videos posted on the social media that I've seen since the event have an eerily similar lineup and transitions to that which was played at our event. If it's not pre-recorded, than the collective is deeply lacking in originality. To your point of years and clientele: I don't know what kind of people your clientele are, as it stands I've never met one personally, which for a business based on word of mouth, is saying something. As to your "accolades": playing in major cities is only an impressive point to those who don't really know DJs. As I stated before, your collective was the 6th choice because choices 1-5 were all booked (3 of which were personal acquaintances booked in studio for Grammy winners). The reason for your response was because you couldn't do to me what you did to the other negative reviews, which was silence me. I still refuse to be silenced. We had been planning our son's wedding reception here in San Ramon for many months. We were introduced to DJ Raj a couple of months ago. Raj was thoroughly professional. He had a couple of phone calls with us to understand our agenda, our music preferences, and what we were looking to accomplish. He sent us a detailed spreadsheet to provide him our music tracks, timing etc. We had especially an intricate dance and song duet sequence with the bride and groom and Raj took the time to understand the whole program and even had a phone call with the couple. As a vendor, I have worked with Mrunal several times. I am just getting around to write a review. Mrunal is not only a great DJ but an amazing co vendor to work with. I think if you are hiring different vendors for a party like most of them require, it's always great if they all can work well together. As a dancer/ entertainer at the parties co working with Mrunal had been extremely pleasurable. He not only made my job easier but handled a demanding crowd with several different song requests from 80's and 90's impeccably. Before the events, Devin met with my fiance and I, in SF and laid out all the rentals, fees, schedules in such an organized way; it made it really easy for us. He is honest, creative, and understanding of budgets. He really listened to what we wanted and goes above and beyond the traditional 'wedding DJ.' Devin is also really honest. My fiance wanted a genre a music thats not as common at weddings; as well as English music in the Baraat. From the point I first talked to Devin about DJing at the party till the event, these guy's are so professional, very accommodating and really know their business well. We booked these guys for our wedding and oh boy should we have thought twice. Yelp says businesses cannot buy reviews, but I have my doubts. Booking process and communication was clear enough and they were quick to take a deposit. It later turned out that they could not mix in some of our requests into the days playlist and apparently, turning down their services at this point would mean we forfeited our deposit. This was almost 9 months before the date mind you. Despite this, we consider the positive reviews and bit the bullet. This is where it gets worse. The "coordinator"; Mr. Raj turned up on the day and first thing he did was demand bottled mineral water and silence from everyone at the venue. With a busy venue with decorators, family etc. this was something we couldnt adhere to. "I can't work in an environment like this" was his response. He proceeded to unpack his equipment, argue with the venue supervisors about where to put his equipment and then stormed out to his van for what seemed like an hour. He came back, set up his equipment, plugged his headphones in, put them on and then cranked his speakers up to max volume. Blasting out music while other people were trying to get their work done. Any requests to turn the music down were met with angry stares and muttering under his breath. It later became apparent that he was lining up music to play that we had not agreed on before. Questioning him about this, he told us that we only told him what we wanted on the playlist and not what we did not want. It was apparently too late to change the set now. You may think this is me being nitpicky, but imagine if on your special day, you hear snippets of "We the best", "Gucci Gang" and "Esskeetit". I know these songs are popular and would suit a boozy wedding reception, but they misread the venue and event completely. Absolutely embarrassing. My wife was trying her absolute hardest not to storm over to his set and telling him to go home. We asked for our money back, but were met with "you signed an agreement/contract". Another friend of ours had also booked these cowboys and after witnessing the shambles that was our wedding, immediately asked to cancel and for their deposit back. They are still waiting. Don't take everything you read on yelp at face value. Do your research. read more

My sister and brother-in-law worked with Music Mantra for their wedding two years ago, so I knew exactly who I wanted for our wedding before my husband and I even got engaged. Raj was so easy and fun to work with - he sent us a music/event itinerary to fill out for our wedding months beforehand (we didn't need to give it to them until much later, but as somehow who liked being proactive with wedding planning, I greatly appreciated this), was easily reachable by both email and phone, spent more than enough time combing through the itinerary with us a couple days before the event, and made a beautiful digital monogram with shooting stars for us! Our sangeet, baraat, wedding, and reception music was all done by Music Mantra along with the reception lights and photobooth. The sound and lighting consisted of a multi-watt VRX setup, six light up towers with moving heads, gobo projector, and 55 DMX controlled programmed up-lights. DJ Kidd Prodigy was easy to work with and professional. The up-lights lit up the wedding ballroom and the moving head towers were utiized to wash the wedding stage (mandap). Raj and his crew certainly made our wedding a fantastic party. Raj played the dohl for our wedding processional and provided music services for the wedding and reception. Before the event, Raj and I met up to walk through the details. He asked for example songs for different segments of our event. He used those to examples to find other similar songs. During the wedding, Raj was a fantastic dohl player. He helped us to rally the groom's processional and walk us into the wedding ceremony. He kept to a fast beat and everyone loved it. During the reception, he played all of our pre-event day requests and found other similar songs. He and his crew were adaptive to the crowd's needs and changed songs to keep everyone on the dance floor. There were two instances where Raj went above and beyond. First, Raj let our friend (who is a professional Bollywood musician) connect his ipod and gave him mic, so the friend could sing. In another instance, a family member made an unusual song request. Raj downloaded the song with 10 minutes and played the song. I highly recommend Raj and his crew. They were professional, responsive, and very helpful. read more
