The owner is so rude! We have come in several times for things we need for drums or guitar and are always met with an attitude. Now we gladly drive to Missoula where we are treated with respect. An update on the previous review that I left. The professional cellist that I mentioned did go by to talk to the people that worked on my cello bridge. This was what he texted me afterwards: "I talked with Music One and understood that they only claimed to make it workable, not ideal. He said the violin family is not his specialty..." This certainly wasn't what they told me when I dropped my cello off. They certainly didn't give me any indication of this when they charged me the full price of $250 dollars, even when I was surprised respectfully asked if they would consider giving me a discount. They unashamedly charged me full price for a job that they knew was only "workable and not ideal." When I came back to talk it over with them, rather than working with me they made me feel foolish and rude for holding them accountable for their work. This is classic gaslighting. I previously gave them two stars--wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt. However, after discovering that they knew that they were doing subpar work I'm dropping it to one star. This brings their characters into question. It appears to me that they are dishonest and inconsiderate. I certainly won't be giving them any more business. read more

I walked into this very nice music store on Saturday to ask about some guitar strings for a Fender T Bucket 400 blonde. I've never really liked the sound of this guitar trying other strings but the strings this gentleman recommended were spot on. I am really enjoying this guitar more than ever. Really nice store, really nice people. Good selection of quality instruments, as well as a little of something for each budget. They do not hover around you, or and do not mind if you just came to see what they had for selection. I live two hours away, and when I go to Kalispell, I drive right past it. I have been wanting to stop in, and I finally did. Personally, I did not run into any of the negative things in the one star reviews. I got there around 4:30, and actually while talking to the Lady, I was there after 5. I had bought some small items, and left while they locked up. I am going back to see about some pedals. My experience was great. I hope I don't run into any of the negative problems listed by others. I travel to Missoula as well. read more

I have been trained in piano since I was five and a half years old. I am now 72. Trained at the S.F. Conservatory and with individuals who are invited Kennedy Center performers. I think I understand music. I play French horn, violin, and self-taught on recorder and guitar...fingerstyle guitar. I have been invited to perform on guitar. I have not ever walked into a music store...and I've frequented many throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe...where someone talked down to me as happened here. I took a deep breath, said "thank you", and will never again return. I once had three staff members corner and threaten to not work on my stuff for voicing similar concerns about wait times online when i was younger. I have been a customer for 15 years and yet I have been talked down to, brushed off, and made to feel like I dont know anything. I custom wire my guitars with inner outer coil taps, color changing kill switches, and even lazers and leds so I know my way around a guitar. They have sold me strap locks without retaining clips, lost brand new screws on a $2000 guitar and didn't inform me (I only discovered it in pickup when 3 screws were no longer OEM), and take weeks to provide updates on repairs. They seem to not really want to help anything related to headless guitars or 8 string guitars. The last year I have only gone there out of sheer laziness for accessories, and from here on out I'd rather just wait for shipping times online. I was just in with a GOC custom one of a kind headless multiscale 7 string with a polymer top and a staff member referred to it as an Ibanez, which it looks nothing like, immediately didn't care to help or offer to order a part, and had an "I know it all" attitude. He brushed me off in under a minute. I have tried to support them over and over again to get slapped in the face. I'm not going back and recommend largely the same for serious musicians. P.S. I bet instead of learning and trying to professionally address this it'll get brushed off and I'll get 86'd. read more

The shop's guitar and amp inventory has impressively increased in the past year, and I've noticed a strong uptick in attention to customer service with walk-ins and idle browsers. Called ahead a to insure they had what I needed was told yes. Get to store and in fact they don't , Recommended a diff set so I took it up front to pay for it, and the clerk was in conversation with a local about personal things and for 10 -15 minutes never looked up at me . Almost no one in store but by ignoring me for so long I left without my product. A little nod or some indication they knew I was 3 ft from them woukd have been courteous! Where to begin? I don't write reviews unless I feel especially moved. In this case, I feel like I owe it to the public to warn them about this place. Like being treated condescendingly or bullied? Paying high prices? Or like you're bothering the employees with your presence? (the lady was actually really nice) If so, then this place is great! In all my years, I've never been to a shop with such a negative vibe, lack of product knowledge, and general lack of humility and professionalism. I've traveled the country, owned and played some of the finest guitars from the likes of Froggy Bottom, Huss and Dalton, Collings, Martin, Taylor, and the list goes on. I love guitar shops and I love guitars. I do my research before I go to a shop and I research the model(s) of interest prior to arriving. In this case, it was a Yamaha JR2. It has a solid top and is great for small people, kids, or my tiny wife. I was planning to surprise her for our anniversary and I was excited that they had one "just getting set up" when we spoke on the phone. I arrived and they told me it didn't have a solid top, but that it would be finished shortly. I waited, but mentioned that I was sure that guitar has a solid top(it does). When politely challenged on this, I was met with an attitude and what I thought was going to be the new guitar they set aside for me on the phone ended up being a beat up old used one instead. They wanted too much for it, and as I attempted to explain that I could get a brand new one for a little more money, and that their custom "setup"(it was actually pretty bad) was of no value to me because I prefer to set up my own guitars, the guy scoffed and walked away from me as I was taking to him mid sentence. Great customer service!...Totally unprofessional. I have never been treated so poorly or been left with such a negative feeling after leaving a shop. After leaving a quick review on google(link below), I received a personal response from the owner shortly after. It was defensive, full of lies, and not surprisingly, it lacked any shred of professionalism or humility. Go figure. After 41 years in business, which they so proudly pointed out, you'd think they would see the irony in the tone of their response. Nope. I am as easy going as you can get. I just love music and I play Bass, Guitar, Keys and Drums. One time I went in and they had a "Stage" with a drum set on it. It was a 6" "stage" and I just stepped up on it and looked at the drum set... I did not touch anything. But Larry came over and yelled at me for getting on the "Stage" and kicked me out. I have spent thousands of dollars on instruments at Music Villa in Bozeman because of this. I refuse to go back to this shop. So rude. I have heard horror stories of people bringing in rare guitars, and without any scruples, they suggest that they trade that "old thing" in for an updated student model worth hundreds, then they sell the rare guitar for thousands and totally hose the people. They do not wear masks in this store during COVID-19. They had one of those stupid signs stating that they were not enforcing because of the Americans with disabilities act, which does not apply... That was the first issue. The second issue was the clerk didn't know anything about the music that was on stock. Third, the shelves containing sheet music were mostly empty, even though the owner said there were 20 boxes in the back. Boy, that's not very helpful. read more

Everytime I have visited this establishment, throughout these many years they have answered all my questions, and directed me to the best products for my children to get started on their musical journeys. I walked in this shop. Asked a couple of guitar related questions and the guy behind the desk assumed I was not a serious customer and said I could play their beater guitar rather than anything they had on display. So unwelcoming. The shop had one interesting instrument that was not a factory fender or it's ilk. That was an overpriced 70s vintage Gibson acoustic (sj-200) priced at $6500, can get one from reverb for $4500. Nice to see but not worth what they were asking. No jazz guitars at all to speak of. Not one archtop. Find a better place. This one is not worth your time. read more

In recent years I've had setup and somewhat tricky custom pickup retrofit work done at Music One Workshop on two different Fender electric guitars. These guys know their business--the craftsmanship was superb, the setups beautifully tuned to my playing style (which they quizzed me about ahead of doing the work). The owners showed a positive personal interest in the modifications and resulting performance of the instruments they worked on. They did the work promptly, and communicated status and outcomes clearly, despite a pandemic-related staff shortage the last time around. It's a blessing to have a local storefront run by expert guitar guys who really play, and truly care about the instruments they sell and work on. read more

I understand that people have bad days, but there's no excuse to be rude and condescending to customers, especially children who are new musicians. This isn't the Kalispell that I know. I purchased a high end fender guitar and decided I wanted to use a credit card intstead of debit, but they could not get the machine to work. I paid for the guitar, then called the credit card company. They advised the store should call them to finish the transaction. The woman at the counter refused, saying it would be too difficult for them. My bank was right across the street and they had not closed the batch for the day. There was no reason they could not have accommodated my request. I felt as though I got caught in a small town tourist trap situation and wished I had purchased the guitar from someone else. read more

I don't love taking my business here. Twice I've had work done on my instruments that later had to be corrected by other luthiers. I've found Larry and George condescending and rude, and they tell me what I need without listening. I don't really have much faith in their integrity as business owners - recently, I had $100 worth of in-store credit just go missing (no record of any transaction.) I'm not sure if it was shady, or just sloppy bookkeeping. But it pains me that this is one of the only places in town that serves string players. read more

No music stores where I live. I was making a trip to Kalispell so called ahead to see if they could handle some work on my guitar during the one day I would be in town. They agreed. When I arrived they quickly showed me what needed to be done with my instrument (which was NOT what I thought.) What needed doing cost me less than what I had expected. They did great work and my guitar is much more playable now than it had been. Quality work backed up by ethical behavior. I'll definitely have them do more work for me in the future. Oh, and they told me to bring the guitar along the next time I am in town and they will give it any minor tweeks it may need after its adjustment; no extra charge. read more

From Gretch to Fender my guitars are all bought in Kalispell from the brothers. I live in Jolon Ca. so they must do something very right.
