I contacted Brian Henselman again to tune Things Two's baby grand piano as it was recently moved as I purchased a new home. Its important to tune a piano after a move and on other occasions such as: 1- When a piano is not played, the strings will gradually stretch with the passage of time and the piano will fall out of tune. Pianos need regular tuning at least once a year to keep them up to pitch and playing the correct notes. 2- When fluctuations in temperature and humidity occur which cause the wooden parts of the piano to expand and contract, affecting string tension. 3- When a piano is not tuned regularly. Pianos get set in their ways as they age. A piano that hasn't been tuned in a long time will go out of tune again very quickly. Pianos are temperamental and should be tuned at least once per year. I like to think of a piano like a car in that, cars require regular tune ups, oil changes etc. Brian showed up on time, was efficient and gave some great tips on piano care. Brian has been great to talk to. Obviously very knowledgeable and sold me a "used" premium Yamaha upright . The quotation marks are because NOTHING about it appears used, insignificant wear on the hammers, none visible on anything else. I had found a "Rebuilt" Yamaha upright cheaper elsewhere, and indeed it had lots of new parts but the workmanship was suspect and gave me a bad feeling. One from Brian at MusicMasters I connected to instantly as the piano I wanted. It was delivered yesterday morning. Between the acoustics in my front hallway room and the nature of the piano it was considerably brighter than fit my (probably unusual) taste. 7:30 this morning Brian was here to do a touch up tune and voice it much mellower. Very thorough even though the real tune-up is scheduled two weeks out to let the piano settle from the move. WOW!! Sounds really good now! But he is not through: that will be in two weeks. Both today and two weeks from now are no charge. Now I have several old pianos including a family heirloom Steinway upright that has history but is sort of rough. He took it upon himself to check it out and noticed a bass string that had slipped way low so couldn't resist fixing it and gave me good advice on what I needed done to bring it back to snuff. I had three other very old uprights that I had made a project out of making playable by DIY and the help of an excellent tech. I was ready to move on to something not quite so rough so two of these had to be rehomed due to no more space and my desire to avoid divorce court. Brian's wife was on a free marketplace forum and one of the pianos left when mine was delivered. Someone else referred by Brian's wife is taking another piano for free. Wonderful experience from purchasing through after sale support. We purchased a wonderful new upright piano from Brian. Really appreciated his candor and his approach. Never felt pressured or anything. Could really tell that Brian just loves what he does. That itself was impressive, but I'm pleased to report that he's just as good after the sale. He's come out several times to fix/adjust the piano as it's settled in and the experience there has also been wonderful. We (embarrassingly) strayed to have a cheaper piano tuner come and tune the piano -- that person, while very professional, wasn't familiar w/ our specific model piano and its nuances, and actually ended up messing up the piano. I found them to be very responsive to our needs. We stated our budget, and the size/style of piano we wanted, and he directed us to exactly what we were looking at. We had been to other dealers and quickly knew we liked the sound on the Kingsburg model we purchased. The purchase was a smooth, easy transaction, and delivery was on time, with no issues whatsoever. I have had them out twice a year (on average) since we've purchased the piano, and each time, he schedules me for within a week of when I contact him, arrives on time and has the piano sounding great.
