As a long-time Strait customer I was really looking forward to the new store opening in Westlake, but when I went in recently, it was the same old thing. I was totally ignored. Several people behind a counter when I came in, but no greeting or acknowledgement of any kind. I then tried out a few guitars and amps, and listening to the staff talking to each other it seemed they had little to no real interest in making a sale or helping customers in that moment. I played for about 20-30 minutes and was very careful and respectful with the equipment, but nobody ever approached me or said a word to me, even as i left. They were not busy at all, I was the only person trying out guitars at the time. I wasn't looking for any type of special treatment, just not to be ghosted. read more

My husband and I visited the store to look at a specific digital piano I was interested in purchasing and to explore other possible piano options. The showroom was impressive and gave us the opportunity to try out various digital pianos to see which ones had the "right" feel and sound A big shout out goes to David and Wesley in the piano and the pro-audio/keyboard departments. They were both extremely helpful and generous. Wesley gave us a significant discount and David gave us tons of free sheet music he found inside a piano bench. Wow, the crew at Strait Music gave great customer service today! I was very impressed with how helpful everyone was. Beyond the service side of things, they also have a nice selection. I am a percussionist, and they have all the essentials. They have quite a lot of options for guitar players. And they have a good amount of sheet music for piano players with several interesting things I had never seen before. I had to take some time out of my day to write a STELLAR review for the guys (and gals) at the new location in Bee Caves. I went in there to procure a Mood expression pedal and ended snagging a few other necessities as well. [Side bar: I called the previous evening to check stock for the pedal and Mitch assured me they had it, but would have to dig it out of inventory and call me back. Surely enough, he called me back first thing in the morning with it already set aside for me. Great customer service.] The total cost of my items was a little over a hundred dollars but all I had was a hundred dollar bill and apple pay, no cards unfortunately. Instead of removing items from the transaction or turning me away, in the kindest way possible he quickly discounted my items just enough to get me to $100 even. That is the kind of customer service that will bring me back time and time again. Not to mention their high quality selection of instruments and gear, and a beautiful new store! I took my guitar to be repaired before I left town for a month. When I came back it wasn't finished and it would be two more weeks before I got it back, only after requesting a hard deadline. They said they had gtrs in there from May and were short-staffed. Ok, then stop taking in work and misquoting turnaround times. I picked up my guitar and took a look and they hadn't done the repair, they just did a setup on my guitar, which I can do myself. So they apologized and did the repair while I waited. Took like ten minutes. Ok so, I waited 6 weeks for you to do the repair in ten minutes right in front of me? Glue still drying when I took it to my car, and in this heat what could happen? Regretting the $100 price tag. Problem is fixed and guitar feels good. They helped me figure out which string gauge works best for my playing style and tuning. read more

Horrendous customer service. Brought an oboe in for a pad replacement and was told it would take 2-3 days. After three days I received a call that they hadn't even started to work on it and it would be done in 5 days. When I called them after that time frame, I was told it still hadn't been worked on and would be another two days. On top of this $110 for a singular pad replacement that takes almost two weeks is entirely ridiculous, especially as a collegiate music student reliant on that instrument. read more

I took my #1 guitar in for a setup and Nik did a great job. The guitar played like a dream and it was ready sooner than promised. I have also bought two pianos there (Yamaha P22 new and Yamaha C3 used). The C3 needed a little work after it was delivered and Strait took care of it no questions asked. Recently my daughter's private lesson teacher noticed that Strait music gave us a broken clarinet,we paid so much money and in result we get a broken clarinet.Yesterday we went to Strait to get repairs,and instead they gave us another clarinet.The clarinet was very old even at the point where the keys were rusting,the company gave us a case that had a hole in it and was not properly cleaned.My daughter was not comfortable putting her mouthpiece in the case by how dirty it was.We were very disappointed in Strait music and we hope things get better than what we have witnessed. read more

If zero stars were an option, that's what I would give. Sent in a clarinet for evaluation, gently used. Quoted a week. Week come and gone and no idea when this may be completed. So I take the rental option to cover me for a few days. Wow. You want my social security number and run a credit report?! You have lost your mind. Well, the alternate option is run your card for $1.000 deposit. I'm not concerned about that, except that it's x5 the amount I can buy one. I have previously recommend my sales experience at Strait. Now I can comfortably talk about service...and I can not reccommend Strait Music and the guitar repair work provided to me by Sean Haydon enough! My 1952 Gibson LG-1 was handed over to Sean for a major restoration in late 2020. It had been previously worked on by Mark Erlewine in the 1980s, but now needed a neck reset, bridge replacement, refret, and a qualified luthier who wasn't learning along the way. What I got back plays better than new in 1952! Sean Haydon is an artist. Enough to nearly make a grown man tear up in the store when seeing it for the first time again. So, this review begins "after" I walk out of Guitar Center, Sunset Valley, TX. I'm a little miffed about receiving poor quality customer service at GC, but on my way out to my car, I remember Straight Music Company and decide to look them up. I call them from the Jeep and ask if they had any hard-shell guitar cases in stock. I'm catching a flight out the next day and really need one. He says he has one in stock that he thinks would suit me perfectly. I ask him if he would be kind enough to set it aside for me. I said I'd purchase it over the phone if he needed me to. He said it was no problem and that it would be there when I arrived. Less than 10 minutes later, I walk in to SMC and I ask the guy at the reception area where to go, that I had just called for a hard-shell case. He already knew about me and pointed me to the rear counter and at a gentleman in particular who was the one who took my call. Pleasant, friendly, they hit all the high notes when it comes to customer service. The next time I have any guitar or other music needs, I'm going to skip over Guitar Center and head straight to Straight Music. read more

I've owed Strait a review in quite some time. These guys, specifically Chris Cowart were just awesome. Chris is also in a mighty fine rock and roll band name a Scorpion Child. Everyone from the reception to the teachers and the sales guys and the repair guys are incredible and nice.

I had done a quick search to find the nearest music shop, my base was having trouble and I wanted to pick up a new guitar. Most places don't often look at instruments without having it be a paid service, so one of the workers helping me out was so sweet. You can tell a lot of the workers in there are music lovers, and know a thing or two about the instruments in the store. The place is super well kept, and there's a very welcoming aura. I could have just wondered in there not knowing a single think about music, and the employees would still be a delight to talk to. I didn't end up getting a new guitar, but it definitely doesn't mean I won't be going back to pick one out. I don't normally leave reviews, but if it means more traction, then I'm all for it. read more

Had a few issues with my guitar, took it to Strait to have it looked at. Being a novice musician, it can be intimidating going in a music store with so many professional musician staff members and customers. I met with Chad who was super cool and welcoming. He explained everything that was happening with my guitar and the fix needed. The work was done super fast and I picked up the guitar an hour later. The price they charged seemed very reasonable to me and all the staff was welcoming and friendly. I had a positive experience here and will give them my business in the future. Updating my previous review. The owner Clint Strait reached out immediately to apologize and addressed the issue with his staff. Also offered to help me find the guitar I was looking for. Nope. My daughter wants an electric guitar for Christmas. Found the one she wants online but would much rather support a local business so stopped by Strait to see if they had it. I got there just after opening so there were a few other customers in the store and lots of employees standing around. Not a single employee acknowledged my presence or asked if I needed help the entire time I was there. Just stood behind their counters having personal conversations with each other or avoiding eye contact. A bit of advice-a simple "let me know if you need help" would go far. read more

I've had instruments repaired, bought new instruments and wandered for hours in the sheet music section. Everybody I've encountered has been knowledgable, friendly and welcoming. Recently I went in to upgrade my digital piano and Roland Roberts helped me decide on one. He didn't have it there so sent me to Chris Baldridge at the North store. Chris was set on making sure I was getting the piano best for me and gave me a thorough education while showing me alternatives. I bought the piano--- and I would buy a used car from Chris. I went in yesterday to get a trombone for my son starting sixth grade band. I was a bit nervous, because I wasn't sure what to ask for. I came in, was greeted right away. I love that when you walk right in there is a table with sanitizer and masks. Everyone must clean hands when they walk in. Right away, I told Ashleigh what I needed and she got right to it!
