I responded in surprise so what what is your 90% ballpark estimate as we discussed (understanding minor adjustments and design changes can change cost as well as materials prices). His response was 30k so I asked he email me it as we discussed to confirm the size and design and again he said I don't do that and if you want to move forward we can get more detailed. I asked him directly " am I detecting an attitude in your responses as my desire is to make sure we are on the same page. If I can't get the estimating person to provide a basic estimate to build off with out a tone that I should just agree and hand him my cash is unacceptable. A basic estimate would have taken him maybe 15 minutes and would lay out timelines, payment schedule and clarification on what the 30k provides is not to much to expect. Under no conditions would I agree to any work where I get a fraction of my desires addressed / confirmed understanding and then be spoken to like "agree to us doing it then we can address your questions with a condescending tone. I thanked him and walked him to his vehicle. I called the office and explained my dissatisfaction and refuse to use a company that the sales person can not keep his frustration in check and forgot I am the one paying for the project and not some guy on the street that was interfering with his day. Attitude and respect sets the stage and if providing a quote is an annoyance, then don't advertise a free quote (perhaps the old saying you you get what you pay for is true, I paid noting and got my money's worth). I would prefer to pay for an estimate fee and feel my desires were heard and understood as I make my decision. George

This is the first time we seriously considered terminating a contractor mid-project. Communication was consistently poor, the project schedule and material ordering were severely mismanaged, and the crew showed up only six days over an almost two month period in the summer when the majority of work should have been completed, contributing to turning what should have been a three month job into a six month project. Job-site cleanup was not maintained, significant errors were made, and there was resistance and defensiveness when those mistakes needed to be corrected. Rather than taking accountability, the company disputed issues that were clearly the result of their own lack of oversight and execution. Overall, the level of service, organization, and workmanship fell far below what we've experienced with other contractors and what you would expect at this price point.

We hired him two months ago to do a variety of things to our 100-yr old home in Cow Hollow: -rebuild front steps & entryway, including installing a new front door -install crown moulding on our main floor -rebuild deck in backyard -repair and replace dry rot at various locations on exterior of the house -a variety of smaller projects throughout the house As you can tell, it was a variety of interior/exterior projects, and Rich absolutely hit it out of the park. In the three years that we've owned our home, I'd been through more than 5 contractors before we found Rich. I can't recommend him highly enough. Let me tell you specifically why: 1. Attention to detail & quality of work -The finish work that Rich does is as good as I've ever seen. Every night we would come home and there would be no evidence that Rich had been there that day - no dust, no specks of paint, no tools left behind. Just the evidence of progress made on the job. Awesome. 2. Trustworthiness -We left Rich with a key to our house, not only while we were gone at work every day, but while we were away in Europe for two weeks 3. Guarantees -One of the boards that Rich installed on our front steps began to warp days after being installed. Not at all a problem with Rich's work, but a faulty piece of lumber. Regardless, Rich tore up the board and replaced it the next day, all at no additional cost and with no questions asked. 4. Customer-oriented & professional -All of Rich's quotes were sent to me as PDF's in email and clearly outlined in detail the proposed work. Following the job, he sent me an invoice. All very professional and customer-oriented. 5. Price -We sought out three bids for the work that we wanted done, and Rich was very competitively priced. Incredible value for money. In short, we can't say enough good things about him. We'd highly recommend him for home remodel / improvement projects. Alex arrived early, did a walk around the entire house, told me there were 2 additional areas that needed repair, he walked me outside and showed me the areas. I was sort of sick about additional areas that needed to be replaced but frankly I could see it and of course I didn't want rain water entering the house so I appreciated his keen eye on my issues. I also had a xeriscape rain barrel that I wanted hooked up to a downspout. This was done Tuesday (excellent job and added height to it to allow for better flow, innovative!) and today Thursday the main work was done and in a tidy manner and it looks great. Alex went up on the roof the first visit and took numerous pictures, diagnosed nails and missing shingles. This was awesome to show my husband all the pictures (roof is about 30 feet high and peaked so we cannot access).
