I discovered this park after joining Plano Pacers last night and seeing that this is our monthly location for 5k races. I walked over to check out the course prior to Saturdays race. I loved everything about it! It's truly beautiful in every sense of the word. What I can say, is on a very hot TX day the park itself (not Legacy trail) didn't seem to have a ton of tree coverage. You'll definitely want a wide brim hat and some sunscreen. The paths, wild flowers, lake, creek, trees, birds, bunnies and so on were all very lovely. I've been running a ton of routes since relocating to the neighborhood and I'm always thankful to find new paths to incorporate in, seeing as though I'm a distance runner and have been trying to put together some ideas for various different mileage options from my doorstep. I was very accustomed to an out and back in my previous city that I could easily get over 20 miles on and have been looking to somehow recreate a similar very straight forward route like that. I will most definitely be looping Windhaven Meadows Park and Legacy Trail into my runs. Highly recommend if you're looking for a gorgeous peaceful place to walk and relax. Plenty of water stations for humans and dogs alike. The only complaint if any that I have is the fact that the park is simply just grass, no foliage trees or anything pretty much just a giant football field, and there is limited seating. Keep in mind too the type of people that visit this dog park (Allen, Murphy etc) ya know the type who will call 911, if you don't pick up a dog pie within 30 seconds. This wasn't witnessed, nor did it happen. You can just tell by the way people act.

The water fountains are clean and functioning well, the waste bags are thick and high quality and there is a TON of shade and seating which is important for those summer days. The pond for the dogs to swim in great for the summer, though if you have small dogs I recommend giving them life vests to wear as I think the water is deeper than it looks at some parts. Note that the pond is not separated between large dogs and small dogs. There is also a water fountain with a hose attachment that you can use to hose down your dogs after they go swim.

Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's…read morequite large and has a number of amenities like a small pond, winding creek and access to an adventure park on the grounds. There are trails as well as paved paths for walking and jogging enthusiasts. The trails do not have much of an elevation change, but they are immersive enough to where you feel like you are in nature. In the midst of one of the trails, you can see the platforms and zip lines associated with the Go Ape Adventure Park. There is a part of another trail that has a beautiful wooden deck that is very peaceful and is akin to other parks I've experienced in Japan and Hawaii. So, if you like changes of scenery, Oak Point is a great option- it's a chameleon in that way. There are restroom facilities that are well maintained located by the large pond as well as ample parking. As far as variety of landscapes and well maintained grounds, Oak Point is definitely a terrific option for outdoor activities in DFW.

There are tons of parks all throughout DFW to get your long run on. If you are up north in suburbia and are looking for a place to get your miles in, I highly recommend coming here! It's nice and peaceful and quiet plus safe and options for potty breaks in the area. The trails are beautiful and well kept and the residents are friendly! I recommend parking in the main park area where they have designated the public to park and start your run from there. Great sunrise views off of the creek and you can run throughout the neighborhood trails since it goes around the city. It's fairly flat but there are some opportunities for elevation if you venture out. If you are just looking for a safe park/playground you may bring the fam here too and I do think there is a pavilion. According to the map, it looks like it goes far south into Plano. Very quiet. Only saw a couple families walking, jogging, and riding bikes. We did come on a Friday morning though. It hasn't rained in awhile so the creeks are low. All paved, a couple bridges. I saw some wildlife too: squirrels, hawks, and egrets. We came in January so all the leaves had fallen off trees. I bet it is a sight to see during spring when everything blossoms. However, I imagine it being very hot during summer since there is no coverage throughout the path. Overall, nice, paved trail. Extremely well maintained.

I feel like often I go places and the small dog park is so tiny compared to the big. They do have some areas for shade, and a water feature for dogs to play in to cool off. Since it is a city park it is well maintained and kept clean. They also host cute little events for the pups on occasion with vendors and food trucks. Just a great dog friendly environment for your best friend.
