CONS: Completely unprofessional. They list pets on PetFinder, will not even knowledge your existence without an application. After you go through the lengthy application, they will not respond to you or even tell you if your dog is still available. I've emailed several times, messages them on Facebook. No replies. The only reply I could get was from a distant volunteer's Facebook page. And even then, only gave me a 3 word response. I'm not sure what kind of rescue they are running but it does not seem like it's in the best interest of rescue animals. They don't even have a phone number. They have a ton of activities that they post on their Facebook page to obtain donations. I wonder if donations/$$$ are their main incentive. Avoid this rescue!! I contacted them through petfinder.com and received an automated email with an application and instructions for how to submit it. The application literally took me an hour to complete it was so long and detailed and I put a lot of thought into it. I adopted my dog through mutts4rescue almost 3 years ago. My dog is great, the adoption process was great and this rescue organization is great. I would totally consider adopting through M4R again and whenever a family member, friend or even acquaintance is looking for a dog I always recommend them. And to the people who reviewed below "they don't respond to Facebook or talk to you without applying" or the person who said M4R "is not in the best interest of the animals and are in it for the money"... Your statements (more like accusations) are not only ignorant but extremely offensive to the hundreds, if not thousands, of owners who adopted their dogs through mutts4rescue. Please educate yourself on the time and cost involved with saving just one local dog, never mind an army of dogs from the south who wouldn't have a life if it wasn't for M4R. All of us adopters have put in the effort to go through applying and were patient in the process because we understand this is run by volunteers who have families and jobs outside of this... It's a shame that you would bad mouth an organization without fully understanding the organization or the magnitude of your comments and the effect it may have on future dogs in need of homes. I adopted Scarlett, and my brother in law adopted Lance (now Benny) from this rescue. They are brother and sister and were flown up to Mass fro Texas. They are amazing pups and #mutts4rescue is an amazing group I could not be happier with the application and adopting process. These are volunteers that review the applications and screen them to make sure you are a fit, so if they don't get back to you right away or at all you either do not make a great match with that particular pup or they have already been adopted. They make their best effort to get back to people I am sure, but when you get soooo many applications it must be hard to respond to them all. I got very lucky, and was able to get my application to adoption done within 2 weeks. I would and have recommended them and am always sharing their posts for dogs needing homes. I wish all rescues were as great as them. Keep up the good work, and thank you again for doing what you do!! read more

Pay attention to negative reviews attempting to adopt: this place obviously gone down hill or may be non-exsistant now. Tried to contact them about adopting a dog (not even a puppy) and heard not a single word back ! -nothing after multiple attempts. I heard more from "Petfinder" inquiring if I liked the dog and adopted him. (Petfinder should have a feedback forum so "rescue establishments" can be investigated when there are multiple negative reviews to find out IF a place is legit and really have all the pets to adopt they claim they do) Makes me wonder about this "rescue" and what they are doing with donations. read more

After working with Mutts4Rescue for a number of weeks over the summer, I can say with full confidence that they are not a solid agency to work with if your goal is to find the right pet for you and your family. The staff at Mutts4Rescue were not only unprofessional (responses were slow or nonexistent) but were also incredibly offensive and disrespectful. I received a lengthy, profanity-laced text message after informing on of the volunteers that I found another dog through a different rescue. They simply don't care about finding the right homes for their animals. Its a numbers game- they are in it for the money. Stay clear from Mutts4Rescue and go with Great Dog Rescue New England. I adopted my dog Scotty about almost a year and a half ago from the Inskip event from mutts4rescue. I worked with Beth who had told me the dog that we filled out the application for received a different home and provided us with the dog that they thought would be perfect for our home so they brought Scotty over we all met had a wonderful time and obviously I fell love with him right away. I think adoptions are wonderful and I think that people that obviously work in the adoption agencies know what dogs go best with what families, based on how your everyday routine is to how active your life is and what kind of dog personality you want but I do think that they do pick the best dog for you and your family. I couldn't be happier with my dog I love him to pieces ! Also being a owner of a dog grooming salon and working with adoption groups I think mutts4rescue is wonderful ! read more

We suffered blatant age discrimination though very healthy and only in our 60's. We attended the Petpalooza event in Johnston RI on October 4th. We picked out a puppy, but was not told that there had been a previous approved application, went through an insulting interview by Melissa where the first comment was about how long a dog lives! Apparently, we wouldn't out live it. The official reason we were turned down was 1) We weren't going to give the puppy enough exercise - I'd said on the application under exercise that I'd walk the dog twice a day - obviously a puppy would need to run around and since I was home all day he wouldn't be crated. And 2) I'd failed to have our last dog on heart worm meds - though I explained in detail why and that I realize now (coming from West Coast where mosquitos are not an issue) that we'd certainly have him on meds. This was clearly age discrimination and horribly embarrassing. I can honestly say that though I was aware it happened, until Saturday I'd never experienced it. It's not something that's going to go away in my mind. Given how many of these 501C's have popped up - are they even regulated? We assume since they are "doing such a wonderful thing" that all is up and up. However at the Petpalooza on Sat - the puppy we held was so traumatized by the noise and other dogs that he literally could not stay awake and slept in my arms and my son's for over half an hour. Over the course of the past 3 years we've adopted two dogs from Mutts4Rescue's Petfinder page. In all interactions, Mutts4Rescue staff has been professional, responsive, courteous, and a pleasure to work with. All of our questions were answered, and we were treated with respect throughout the application process. We know that Mutts4Rescue staff works tirelessly with its sister agencies in the South to bring up dogs from kill shelters down there. Our first rescue came from Texas and had been well-cared for and is a joyous addition to our home. Our second more recent rescue came from Louisiana and is such a happy and healthy little guy. Without the work of Mutts4Rescue we'd never have these two wonderful animals in our lives. We've adopted 2 dogs from Mutts4rescue over the years. The first was a sassy, smarty-pants, Tri-colored, cocker spaniel who won over the hearts of everyone he met. We loved him from the day we met until the day he passed away, and we still do. The second is the sweetest, most genuine love of an English Springer spaniel-mix one could ever hope to meet. She brings smiles to kids, adults, and other dogs alike. We would never have found these two special beings without the help of Beth Hickey and her dedicated staff of volunteers posted throughout Louisiana and New England. Beth is, and always has been, a pleasure to work with. She cares not just for the dogs, but also for the adopters--she makes sure it's a good "fit" for everyone around. The fact that my husband and I adopted not one, but two, out-of-this-world canines from Mutts4rescue is enough to convince us that our home will forever be a home for dogs in need- and we hope to always go to Mutts4rescue first! PS: While we may have gotten flack for being Boston apartment dwellers (and renters, at that!) from other rescue organizations, Mutts4rescue never held that against us. Looking to adopt a pet, we found this organization nearby in Portsmouth RI. They have a very large listing of success stories and available adoptions. We found their writeup, pictures and videos to be very detailed, and contained terrific information. They have a very thorough screening process. However we were disappointed after we put a great deal of time and energy into reviewing all the available pets, and completing the lengthy application, only to learn that the pets are not all in local foster homes, but in other areas of the country. For us, we need to consider adoption by seeing it in person. A pet can look ideal in pictures and be completely opposite what you desire for your family in person. For us, the thought of telling an organization that we are interested in a pet, then to have them relocate it to another foster home in New England is not good for us, as we would feel responsible and obliged to take the pet, even if it was not a good fit. This may be fine for some, but not for us, as its an important commitment and should be considered carefully. The organization seemed very professional until we withdrew our interest, at which time they responded a bit offensively. FYI - They have no street address or no phone number. read more
