I utilized this location yesterday to get my emissions testing done. Upon arrival there were two cars in front of me but three lanes open so the wait was only a couple of minutes, if that. I was originally due in May but I applied for an extension which was granted. When I arrived and they scanned by registration they tried telling me I was past due and owed double. Umm, no thank you. After the gentleman (who was very nice the entire time) went to the office, he came back, had a supervisor override something in the system and then it was the original 14 dollars again. I already feel like this who system is just a money grab to begin with so I can't help but think they start out by telling people they owe more and some people just go with it. Can someone PLEASE explain why these "self-service kiosks" even exist?!!! I thought I was being efficient to go to one of these as they are advertised as being 24 hours a day!!! However imagine my dismay when I drove all the way to this location only to find out this kiosk was out of service! You may wonder why I seem annoyed. Well friend, I will tell ya! This was my 2nd attempt to try and use the self service kiosk in one day. Originally, I went to the one located much closer to my home in Beltsville. But guess what?!!! Surprise, Surprise that one was also out of service!! I do not understand why the state of Maryland would advertise a service that is not available. This is not unique to me I have since learned, other individuals too have met the same misfortune, over a series of a course of months. *Cough* SO if the machine is not functioning, and will not be operational regularly, let's discontinue the service!! It is already difficult enough to try to go through the regular vehicle emissions process on a normal business day. As a consumer, I expect a service to be offered and provided when it advertised. But especially when said service is a MANDATORY requirement. I'm VERY disappointed I wasted a significant portion of my morning where I thought I was getting ahead. In fact I now will need to take personal time off of work to get this service done before the expiration date. read more

I went to the 24hr self service VEIP station just to see it was broken... Why advertise 24hr self service VEIP and it's not even working??? I wasted time and gas and never got my VEIP completed!!!! Went to drop off old tags. On the front of the box were instructions to fill out return form which would be on the side of the box. No form holder or forms on either side of the box. So how would anyone follow those instructions? No one else noticed this or told anyone of the issue before. Only me? Who installed the box and/or the instructions? Absolutely no critical thinking there, So the drop off box is clearly not an option and one must go inside and wait for. I do not have the time or patience for this. Oh, and the phone number listed takes you to maintenance who gives you a number that tells you to press 0 which I did at least 30 times, but did not get a human being. This is what my tax money goes for?? Does not even deserve one star. read more

I went to get my emissions done here on a Monday around 4pm. The 2 lines were long, but I was going to the self-test kiosk. If the lines are too long, you have to wait until you can move forward enough to escape those lines. I got to the kiosk, but there were 2 vehicles in front of me. One vehicle was there for about 10 minutes. I never had my vehicle take that long. He finally left, and the next vehicle moved forward. He said the kiosk kept rebooting. I can tell something was not working. He only gave it a few minutes and gave up. I pull up, and sure enough, it said it was out of order. There was no way to reset it manually. I even check the door for the cables to ensure it was shut tight. I ended up going back into the 2 long lines (which now is much longer). I got trapped in the inside lane for about 15-20 minutes before finally giving up. The other line was moving, but mine was not. They other bay was closed. Apparently, the technicians could not find the OBD2 port in a VW Jetta. This is a very popular vehicle. I wonder how many of these cars come thru these lines. It took these guys 15-20 minutes to find the port. Meanwhile, they allow the people stuck in this line to wait while others who came afterwards finish before they even get taken. On top of that, they had an entire unused bay they could have routed vehicles to release the pressure of the growing lines. I understand that this job must be a low-paying job, but please train your people and/or open up more self-service kiosks... and ensure someone is there to resolve any issues with those. read more

Unfortunately coming here was not a great experience. My visit was on March 18th, 2020. The indoor portion was closed due to the beginning of the shutdown for COVID-19 which is fine! There was quite a long line and someone's car broke down in the middle of it (again not the MVA's fault). The thing that was the MVA's fault was the fact of how long the line took. The machine was experiencing technical issues. Lots of people tried running the emissions test and then left when it didn't work. By the time I got up to the station in-line I noticed the issue with the machine. Suddenly technical support took over the machine and restarted the entire thing. I did not know what was going on at first as no message populated letting me know someone was remoting in. The software was shut and restarted and then the machine worked again. It took quite a long time and a lot of people were inconvenienced and needing to jump out of line due to this issue. It's also worth noting to bring your own sanitizing wipes. The person in front of me in line decided to pick their nose several times while touching the screen intermittently...during a pandemic... Thankfully I had sanitizing wipes to clean their boogers off the screen before they left. Apparently they were a nervous picker . The MVA has no wipes or hand sanitizer to offer at the station. Bring your own as it is GERM CENTRAL. I wiped it off when I was done for the next person to use! Whenever you go somewhere public like this just remember that there are grown adults, some even functioning members of society, that have just picked their nose and touched the Emissions Testing screen, has pump, door handle, etc. read more

Set an appointment online, checked in at the front desk, and was seen within 2 minutes. The lady who helped me was named carmen? Cant remember. Glasses. She was station 2! Anyway, very helpful and informative. She made sure to print forms, provide phone numbers to make sure I was set. Oh -- and I lost my umbrella and the kind man at the front found another staff member who was holding it to make sure no one took it. read more

On my most recent visit, the staff was very friendly and I was in and out in no time. Not sure what to write about the VEIP, not like they make me breakfast while I wait in line. I had previously tried a number of times to use the self serve tester, every time I went there it was out of order. Would have saved me a few dollars in late fees. read more

The 24 hour kiosk never works, I went after hours to do the veip scan and now I'm forced to return during regular business hours.

So I came to the MVA yesterday and I waited two hours, and then I was told that the computers were down and they give me a fast pass to come in today. I came in at 2 o'clock would've been line for 12 minutes and then they give me another ticket and that was at 2 o'clock is now 320 so what was the point of the fast pass. After waiting 47 minutes in line to get up to the counter I was told I had to pay again because it was my first visit when it actually was my third visit the first time I came I paid $139 due to late fees and I failed the inspection, I got my vehicle repaired and came back and they told me that I needed to drive my vehicle a little bit and to come back later because it was too soon since i had just had work done on it. so here I am today waiting in line I passed the inspection this time and now I was informed that I had to get out of line and go back and get in line again because My testing was not up-to-date which means I'm gonna have to pay another $14 , sit in this line again and only to hear whatever it is they have to say to me once I approach the line which could possibly be you can't get tested twice on the same day ... and they also told me there are late fees.... So I asked the technician why couldn't he just do the second inspection since I was already in line and he said that I had to go into another lane because he couldn't test me again. here I am sitting and waiting ...what a waste of my time on such a beautiful day. read more
